For our project, Maddie, Payal, Shraddha, and I decided to volunteer with a group called Angel Arms located in Latrobe. Angel Arms is an organization that takes care and helps rehabilitate babies who were born addicted to drugs. At first, we assumed we would be working with their snuggler program which would have allowed us to hold and comfort these babies. However, with the opioid epidemic on the rise, a place was needed for their work to continue. Although a long way out, Angel Arms is restoring an old abandoned Victorian house to turn it a rehabilitation place for these babies. They just started the project a month back so our service project was doing a lot of moving of old furniture out of the house. We helped them organize what could

Everyday, millions of families are affected by natural disasters and left helpless within the international crisis of poverty. A lack of resources results in a lack of hope to many of those affected, and a little light is shed on this subject through the ad, “Coins” by the American Red Cross. The “Coins” ad produced by the American Red Cross explicitly promotes the act of donating to the organization, but it implicitly promotes humility, selflessness, and compassion.
Operation Shoebox is an organization that sends care packages, and goods to our troops who are deployed. I chose this organization because I felt a connection with it since I have an older brother in the Coast Guard who I adore and look up to. When he was deployed in Cuba my family always sent him care packages so he could always have a little piece of home. When I heard about this organization I immediately wanted to find out how I could help.
I will be graduating with my Associate Degree in Liberal Arts specializing in Health Science and will be continuing on the with my education in a Nursing program at Harrisburg Area Community College. Many of the morals and ethics that I have towards my field of study and the career path I have chosen correlate well with the College’s Core Values of Mercy. The College’s Core Values of Mercy are Mercy, Service, Hospitality, and Justice. In the healthcare field all these core values are at the fore front of our careers and are used every day with every patient and their families. Even now I incorporate these core values into my life because I work as an Emergency Medical Technician back home and I use these values to make all my decisions

Availability to provide assistance is essential when dealing with such a large population in need. Spirit & Truth Ministries operates Monday through Friday all year round (S&TM Pamphlet). Help & Hope operates Tuesday through Thursday each week (H&H Handout). Although a two-day difference appears insignificant at first glance, it can equate to a 104-day gap of availability to assist those who may depend on it. Additionally, each client can only collect food once a month with Help and & Hope (H&H). As stated in Help & Hope’s handout, “[a] major problem is having enough food to last through the whole month” (H&H Handout). With Spirit & Truth Ministries’ Soup
The Relief trip to New Jersey was my first volunteer trip. It ensued from the 2nd of August to the 10th of August 2013, barely two months after I arrived in the United States. However, it was a terrific experience for me. This trip created a wonderful opportunity for me to meet forty incredible people who had the same objective as I did: helping people. These people were more than willing to work cooperatively with strangers in order to achieve this goal. During the nine days spent in New Jersey, we became more than a team, we became a family. We went to the beach, took pictures, played games, talked, laughed and prayed together.
