Hello friends and family! I hope you are doing well! I am about to start my second semester at Southwest Baptist University and I'm loving every second of it. I'm so lucky that I get to play volleyball while getting an education. I am working on a business major so that one day I can run my own boutique. This coming spring I will get the chance to travel through SBU to Honduras for a mission trip and I am super excited. What makes it more exciting is that I get to go with some of my volleyball teammates and my dad. This will be my first missions trip and I am so blessed to have the time and opportunity this year! Our mission team will partner with Mercy International, a missionary group out of Fayetteville, Arkansas. There will be a medical
Growing up my parents always taught my sister and I that we should always be grateful for what we had. Take care of all our toys and expensive things that they brought us. They taught us that you have to work hard for what you want and nothing is handed to you. Even though me and my sister always got what wanted we also knew that we worked for it and that made getting it even better. I believe my parents raised me pretty good. I always respected them and knew my limits, me and my sister had chores we had to do and if they weren't done by the end of the week we would have a consequence. This taught us responsibility and that in the real world if you don't do your job you would be fired or there would be a consequence you would have to pay. Lately I have noticed that a lot of kids in today's society are very ungrateful. They feel entitled and believe that they shouldn't have to work for anything. They think things should just be handed to them without any questions asked. I think I have a way to stop this rising trait in today's youth.
In Monaco, The Grand Prix is one of the most famous races in the world.
How will you contribute to the mission of the National Health Service Corps in providing care to underserved communities?
BOOM! CRASH! Well, that is the sound of some crazy people who are trying to get out of their crowded cars as fast as possible and are going too fast and crashing on the interstate. When that happens I bet you think about driving along a long two lane road where people are not trying to get from one point to another as fast as possible. Well, if you do let us go and travel down the road that was America's only main highway that was used for more than 80 years called Route 66. Route 66 was and still is the road to travel on if you wanted to see extraordinary stuff.
Throughout the nation catastrophes occur on a daily basis; however there are a few catastrophes that have taken national precedence and left a traumatized nation. Most usually these catastrophes are an act of terrorism. Michael Nelson (2010) describes the nature of such terrorism catastrophes as disconcerting, unanticipated and that unnerve “the country’s sense of safety and identity” (p. 20). When such “a traumatic event results in the death of civilians” and “calls the nation’s institutions or values into question” the nation as a whole looks to their leader, our president, to offer solace and calm through a responsive speech (Campbell and Jamieson, 2008, p. 102). In Presidents Creating the Presidency, (2008) the authors have labeled these speeches as a national eulogy in which they usually occur at the sight of the
In “Patrolling Racial Borders: Discrimination Against Mixed Race People," Heather Dalmage provides a brief history of and social context for the discrimination against multiracial people in the United States. She identifies people who discriminate against multiracial people as “border patrollers," or people who believe the color line is fixed and permanent, and thus they have the ability to discern between “themselves” and “others”. She goes on to identify broad areas of everyday life in which multicultural children are “patrolled” and face discrimination, through the patrolling of the child’s physicality, linguistics, interaction with embers of the out-group, geographies, and cultural capital. Her main point is that border patrolling is the
On the summer of 2017 I would like to be part of a missionary team of nurses and doctors from my church, who travels to various countries in South America helping those in need of medical attention. By going to this trip I want to be exposed to the needs these people have, and perhaps recruit other nurses to accompany me in future trips.
i. Which according to Air Force.com I “receive, identify, inspect, store, recondition, ship, issue, deliver, maintain, test, and assemble guided and unguided non-nuclear munitions.”
To become a physician’s assistant is my career goal. Medical missions also greatly interest me; to give help to those who often have no hope of receiving it, and that consequently opening a door to tell them the Gospel.
Imagine a ten year old innocent girl, her parents whom she dearly loved slaughtered in front of her, her siblings being sold into prostitution, slavery or to guerrilla forces as child soldiers. Rape, theft, murder, genocides and other injustice doing is her daily “playground”. Now stop imaging, the common American seems to be oblivious to current events going on worldwide, because such girls exist in war torn places such as Iraq, Syria and Democratic Republic of Congo. If Conscription, the practice of ordering people by law to serve the armed forces were enforced then we might not have to let ten year old girls endure such hardship. Conscription is being used in countries like Switzerland, Austria and Finland, their citizens will never have
The Discovery Channel video with Joey was the part of this week’s material that resonated the most with me. I felt sympathetic for the entire family. The mother made it sound like her son is a punishment. Most people think of their children as a blessing from God, but she sees him as God teaching her a lesson. I also felt very sorry for Kate. I cannot imagine what it must be like to listen to the screams and cries as her brother has a yet another fit. Kate was shown to be somewhat withdrawn, and I wonder if that has something to do with her brother’s condition?
Back in 2012, I went on a trip that put my life in danger. Who would have guessed that I would be going to Compton, California, one of America’s most dangerous cities, for a mission trip. My experiences and interactions there changed my view on life completely. The trip to Compton changed my lifestyle actions and made me realize what life in poverty is like and how grateful I should be to have the life I have.
Hello everyone! My name is Brittany Thomas. I graduated from Tunstall High School in 2013 and now I’m here at Patrick Henry Community College majoring in Practical Nursing. Other than that I’m just focused on working toward receiving my Practical Nursing Certificate. I hope everyone have a wonderful school year
There is no arguing Walt Disney practiced what he preached. In fact, he did what he did so well that people continue to bring others to see what he did to this day, that being Disneyland. First, we’ll start by learning about the background history of Disneyland. Next, we’ll compare Disneyland from when it first started to what it has developed into. And finally, we’ll explore all the eight parks and what they have to offer.
