765 million Americans struggle with hunger, that is 12.9 percent of our population. 16 million of those are kids. 16 teen-year-old Kylee McCumber has made a big impact on that number. Kylee has helped around 400 children weekly. She has been helping kids since she was 10 years old in the 4th grade, this was in the year 20ll. Kylee McCumber is an activist because of her reaction to hunger, her compassion to help others, and her accomplishments.
Kylee is from Leominster, MA. When Kylie was at school and saw people eating breakfast she asked her grandmother why those kids were eating breakfast at school. Her grandmother said that is because they didn't have food to eat at home, Kylee didn’t believe her so she asked the principle and said that it was true. Kylee couldn’t believe what she was hearing, so she asked if she could do anything to help. Kylee went home and told her grandmother what had happened at school that day. This is how Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz got started.

Anna Quindlen’s take on child hunger in her essay School’s out for Summer could be seen as very interesting. Most times, people writing about this topic choose to look at the issue in foreign, low-development countries, but Quindlen decided to bring this topic right to America’s back door. By using pathos and logos, this author effectively makes an argument about how child hunger in America could be solved.
Adam John Walsh was born on November 14, 1974, he was 6 years old when he was kidnapped and killed. Adam was abducted from a Sears parking lot on July 27, 1981 in Hollywood, Florida. His severed head was found in a drainage canal off of the Florida turnpike two weeks later by 2 fishermen. Adam Walsh’s story was turned into a t.v. show called Adam. 38 million people have watched Adam since it first aired in 1983. Adam’s father, John Walsh, became an advocate for victims of violent crimes and is the host of the television show, America’s Most Wanted. Convicted serial killer, Ottis Toole, confessed to Adam’s murder, but was never convicted.
When you think your average baseball player, what do you think of? The player usually has all of his arms, legs, and no physical disabilities. Anyone who plays baseball would think it is hard to imagine that a person born without a right arm is able to play the game and let only be able to be a pitcher. Jim Abbott faces all the odds and has ten-year career in the major leagues. Abbott had to faces many obstacles throughout life and his playing career. Jim Abbott grew up being picked on since he didn’t have a right arm. When Abbott was younger he would use a steel hook as right hand and other children were afraid of him. Also, they called him names like Mr. Hook.
Anna Quindlen identifies that child hunger is not just in other parts of the world, it is also here. She informs readers that, “In most cases these are not parents who are homeless or out of work.
They provide food to over 46 million people in need through their network of 200 food banks. They also work diligently on raising awareness by partnering with high-profile celebrities to create effective public service announcements. Though they are doing an amazing job tackling the hunger issue and spreading knowledge regarding hunger in America, there are two areas that may require adjustments.
Food insecurity is an issue faced by millions of Americans every day, and the biggest group affected by this is working families with children. Food insecurity is so big that the United States government has now recognized it and provided a definition for it. The United States government has defined food insecurity as “a household level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food” (USDA.gov). Food banks and anti-hunger advocates agree that some of the causes of food insecurity are stagnant wages, increase in housing costs, unemployment, and inflation of the cost of food. These factors have caused food banks to see a change in the groups of people needing assistance. Doug O’Brien, director of public policy and research at Chicago-based Second Harvest says “’we’ve seen a real shift in who we serve. A decade ago, it was almost always homeless, single men and chronic substance abusers. Now we have children and working families at soup kitchens’” (Koch). These families that are feeling the effects of food insecurity will not be only ones affected by it, but all of America. Studies have shown that there is a link between food security, performance in the classroom, and obesity. If this issue is not faced head on, America will have a generation of children not fully prepared for the workforce and high health insurance rates due to obesity health issues.

According to Buckser (1992), the term “lynching” was derived from a Revolutionary War Virginia militia colonel, Charles Lynch. Lynch, at this time, came up with an “unofficial justice system” that punished suspected criminals and thieves through whippings; this later became known as “Lynch’s law”. He also mentions that during the eighteenth and nineteenth century, writers used a form of public humiliation known as charivari (12). These ridicule- based punishments were typically against people who transgressed the community norm. Buckser (1992) also noted that by the 1830s writers began to see a change when the frequency and severity of lynch laws increased. They attributed this increase to the rise
Have you ever thought about what it's like not have food? I am sure that most people don't have to worry about being hungry everyday, but there are people out there who do. There are over one in four people hungry or at serious risk of being hunger—significantly worse than the nation as a whole. It hurts to think about people who don't make it through the night because of not having any food. According to the Oxford English Dictionary hunger is “the uneasy or painful sensation caused by the want of food; craving appetite. There are so many ways that Solano county hunger can be eliminated. Together, we could raise money, start food drives, and even teach those counties who are in need of food, how to grow different food. There are many people who are dying every minute from starvation, but by raising awareness,

Ken Nelson (my dad) is a role model to me. He’s nice and fun and isn’t afraid of all the sports and work I do. Yes he can be annoying, but he’s just more optimistic which makes everything more exciting.
Hunger is a major problem in the U.S. Everyday 21,000 people die from hunger or hunger related issues. On average, someone dies every 4 seconds. The U.S. is almost in the top 100 countries in the world for death by hunger. The saddest part is, most of those are children. My group, four people from Neil Armstrong Middle School in Forest Grove, Oregon, wanted to see what we could do about this sad fact. We want to spread the word and help people, especially children, in the U.S. that live in homes where they might not get a meal every day. We are looking to improve the lives of children and teens across the U.S., by making sure they do have a meal everyday. We want to get the word out to people and let them know how big of a problem this is.
Do you know what it feels like to be truly hungry? Have you experienced the deep-seeded fear that arises from not knowing where your next meal is coming from? Luckily, I am not forced to answer “yes” to either of those distressing questions and neither does roughly 79% of the world’s population. However, according to certain statistics, “11.3% of the world’s population” is personally familiar with chronic hunger. To put that figure into perspective, 11.3% of the world’s population boils down to “roughly 805 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis.” (dosomething.org) Eight hundred five million people suffer needlessly says the author of the article because “the world produces enough food to feed all 7 billion people…” (dosomething.org) How is it possible then, that we as people, can possess the resources to feed those millions of hungry people but choose to stand idly by and refuse to help? Sadly, by doing nothing, mankind makes a conscious decision to allow millions of human beings to suffer from malnourishment.
