Did you know that having a healthy mind is a big part of everyday life? It’s important to keep yourself mentally healthy in more than one way. Some ways to tend to your mental self care, especially now, in middle school, are being active, getting good sleep, and eating healthy. One approach to staying mentally healthy in middle school, is to be active. Being active can boost your self esteem which will make you feel better about yourself. It also improves your memory and thinking skills. For example, the article “The Mental Health Benefits of Exercise” says that, “Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts overall mood”. Physical activity helps the abundance and survival of new brain cells too. Getting enough sleep is critical for the well-being of your mind. Middle schoolers need at least 8 hours of sleep for their brain to function properly. Sleep re-energizes the body’s cells and clears unnecessary waste from the brain. The “Sleep and Mental Foundation” said that “Although the relationship between sleep and mental health is not clearly understood, we believe that a good night's sleep helps foster both mental and emotional resilience.
