MUCH has been said about students as targets of teacher bullying. What about teachers as targets of student bullying? If you were a teacher, how would you get along with students who repeatedly used their physical strength, influence, or access to embarrassing information to harm or destroy you? In such a situation, what would you do? There are students who probably nurse hatred against their teachers due to frustrating experiences such as when they are disciplined for misbehaviors or when they are humiliated in class or when they are given low or failing grades. Sad to say, their parents or guardians are likely to turn against their teachers, whose explanations they reject as “unworthy of belief.” Even worse, other teachers are inclined to …show more content…
While it is true that your life experiences can be a source of inspiration for them, it is imperative that you exercise discretion in giving them details. It is strictly inadvisable to tell them about your real-life experiences that involve conflicts with your school head or administrator, fellow teachers, or other school personnel. Be the master of your emotions, especially when you face the class. Accept the reality that sometimes, if not always, tensions develop in the classroom. Hold back your tears, even if you feel like crying. As much as possible, avoid physical contact with students who act rudely. The nearer you are to them, the stronger your impulse is to hit them. Rather than spending your lifetime gripping prison bars tightly, take the time to keep a tight grip on your emotions. Treat disrespectful students with grace and patience. Even though they talk back in your conversations, it is still best to speak to them in a pleasant but emphatic manner. Remember that it is unwise to argue with them in a loud voice. Instead of simply letting them perceive you as a mild-tempered person, make them feel your strength of character with the firm tone of your voice and with your tough …show more content…
Be sure that you have made a note of the date and hour, the student(s) involved, and the circumstances surrounding the event. If you do not inform the authority on campus about the incident, who will? As a partner of the parents of students in promoting the value of self-discipline Invite the parents or guardians of misbehaving students to talk things over with you in school, even if such students are likely to be upset with you for doing so. Not only do you have to give them convincing evidence about the misconduct of their children, but you also have to emphasize the significance of guiding their children toward overcoming their misbehavior. Be certain that you will stay in constant communication with the parents of undisciplined students. Otherwise, it will be difficult, or even impossible, to help their children mend their ways. Sad to say, there are parents who make no response at all to the invitation by the teachers of their children to communicate with the school. On the other hand, there are parents who say that they will talk to their children, but the talks yield no results at all. Such cases, then, require the intervention of the school head or

One cannot begin to be a good teacher, without respecting students as individuals and understanding that each student’s life experiences have shaped who they are. My personal philosophy of ethics affects my forward movement in my career as well as my goals because my ethics guide me on a daily basis. As a teacher, I respect my students, I see them as individuals, and they in turn respect me and work hard for me. I teach primarily troubled students with violent pasts. These students often have a poor reputation and other teachers in my school district have experienced great difficulty and little success in teaching these students.
The responsibility of developing positive relationships with parents and the community lie within all the school personnel stakeholders. For instance, it is the responsibility of the Superintendent and the central office staff to devise a plan and procedures for keeping the board, staff, and public well-informed on school matters. More importantly, these individuals should work with key groups and influential individuals in the community to help impact the community’s educational policies and problems. With regards to an individual school’s relationship, this influence lays within the school administration; the administration is tasked with ensuring that they have a specific, and well – designed plan to help communicate with the students and parents surrounded by their school. Furthermore they should ensure that they are organizing and administering communication to parent and students that is school specific, and provides a way for the school to put its best foot forward. Finally, it is the resp...
Many students look up to their teachers, which makes the way teachers act accountable to the way students act. Teachers should be educated about how to handle bullying situations. Handling bullying in the right manner decreases bullying. The National Education Association explains 10 steps, in their article, about how to handle bullying professionally.
One of the worst things teachers can do about bullying is ignore it. If they do nothing, the bullying will increase because the bully can get away with it. This gives the bully more control, because they know they will suffer no consequences. This creates a problem, because the bullying will continue and more bullying possibly will arise. Teachers never should ignore bullying, and if they do not know what to do about it they should ask other teachers, the principal, or get help in some other way.
Every teacher or school official could tell you a horror story of an unhinged parent or guardian. Parents sometimes assume that their child is not capable of doing wrong, so they blame school workers and come to the school. Of course, all
We have to deal not just with students who are messing around but also with students who are screaming at us or throwing objects at us.” ( Randy Jurado Ertll 2014)”. “But you do it because you have a passion for teaching and a commitment to serve as a role model for students”... ”Yet you don’t get much in return. Most teachers around campus will witness bullying around campus or listen to conversations about things happening at school and will not do a single thing. Many teachers want to believe that students go through that phase and that is how teenagers get along with each other. What is actually happening at schools is that it is an act of being bullied or harassed. Even though there might be police officers around campus schools should be just as involved as police officers. There is not really a law about cyber bullying or bullying, there has to be a change around schools for this to stop. One thing that schools should start doing when witnessing someone being bullied is to encourage the student to see a counselor and deal with the bullies or harassers. Monitoring the internet would be another thing that teachers and staff should be allowed to do. Many will argue that it will invade students privacy, but in reality it will help to see who are being harassers and who is causing problems with hurting people who are weaker than others. Many who are victimized do not have parents support all the time and school is the only hope for people who go through being harassed or bullied every single day at school and on top of that through social media after school. Organizing events on school campuses that will implement ideas such as stopping cyber bullying or harassment will help students who are being bullied that no one is alone in this and that there are more people who go through the same thing as other people. By doing this is will create a connection with these students and second guess the actions about hurting
Many students in this country go to school every day to face a teacher or instructor that does not belong in their profession. A “bad” teacher can cause a student to lose interest in a subject or worse, school all together. They fail to learn the objectives and meet standards that they need to know to be able to advance into college, the workforce, or military. “Bad” teachers also influence students with their bad habits. They can be dull and uninspiring, causing students to struggle to keep up with material or to stay awake.
Interacting with parents and involving them in their children’s learning can help their children realize that school is very serious. It may also improve their behavior, attendance, and motivation to work and study. Parents need to know as well that teachers care about their children education as well and we are not here just to teach and get them on their way. A good way to communicate with parents since it plays a big part in the classroom would be parent conferences, emails, and phone calls. Once the parents feel comfortable and know that you there for their children then things should go smoothly with them trusting you being able to teach their child.
One needs to recognize the warning signs of a student who bullies someone else because it is important. This is important because there may be a reason for the people who bully their peers. Students who bully others lash out on other students, because they want attention in which they lack from home (Why Do Kids Bully). The reason students may lack attention is because their parents are divorced, their own parents neglect them, or their parents may be abusing drugs (Why Do Kids Bully). Another reason could be his or her siblings who become victims of bullying need to have the feel of dominance over someone else (Why Do Kids Bully).
Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. In a perfect world there would be no bullying, but if you could ask Rachel Scott she would tell you we do not live in a perfect world, only a hopeful one.
2. When a child feels hurt or not loved, he/she uses revenge to hurt others and feel good. For this, I will avoid punishement and instead talk to the student and show that he is loved. I will build a trusting relationship and convince the student that we all care for him/her. Punishing or retaliating would only make things worse. Staying positive and building a safe and trusting environment is key.
The results from the quantitative data revealed that teachers with more teaching experience (11 years and up) thought that bullying such as teachers denial access to students and belittling them, was a more serious problem than those who had less teaching experience. Surprisingly, when comparing teacher and peer bullying, teachers bel...
