It might be a struggle at first, but over time it will become easier and effective. Avoiding bad distractions, and staying focused on the task at hand will be a great way to manage time effectively. Hanging out with your friends can wait until another time. They should understand that getting your degree is more important than any social event. There are a lot of actions I could take to improve my time management. I could turn off my phone to remove the possibility of distraction. When family or friends invite me to go somewhere, I should go instead of passing up the opportunity. Bugeja, director of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University and author of“Facing the Facebook” in The Chronicle of Higher Education, states that the initial purpose of having access to the Internet in the classroom was to give students the opportunity to conduct research. However, this privilege is rapidly being used as a means for students to not pay attention during class. A poll was taken at Iowa State University where 20,247 out of the 25,741 enrollees were registered on Facebook (Bugeja 1). Social networking sites such as Facebook have had some negative effects in academia such as “institutions seeking to build enrollment learn that ‘technology’ rates higher than ‘rigor’ or ‘reputation’” (2), that there has been improper use of the freedom to use technology in the classroom, that employers and parents check Facebook to see what users have been doing, and that technology is an overall distraction in the classroom.
This letter seeks to give an overview of the problem of time management among college students who are the target audience in this paper. The paper also highlights on the probable solutions ascribed to it. It also seeks to identify a simple three part model that capsulate a viable solution to this problem if followed to the latter.
“ In 2012, it was reported that Americans spent 121 billion minutes on social media sites in the month of July alone. That’s 388 minutes- or 6 ½ hours- per person” ( Chambers, 2015 pg.3). It is suggested that you completely log out of all social media sites while attending school ( Chambers,2015). The 6 ½ hours spent on social media sites can be time spent managing your everyday life, and school life. Having good time management skills are an asset in everyday life, but good time management skills are a necessity as an adult learner.

Balancing your time when you are too busy is easier said than done. Sometimes you are so busy that you are just too exhausted to complete all of your responsibilities. There are a few helpful strategies I use to allow me to manage my time. Firstly, I try to finish assignments as soon as they are assigned, not right before they are due. I always keep an up to date to do list, and prioritize my responsibilities. When I have time I can use to tackle my responsibilities, I allot a certain amount of time to each task and set a timer. This makes sure I finish the tasks, but also prevents me from getting distracted.
