Clubs were a great way for me to expand my interests outside of athletics. I was involved in Key Club and FCA freshman year and I enjoyed meeting new people and making a difference in our community. I was inducted a member of NHS junior year and this was a great way to make service a priority.
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
Students tend to choose to attend high schools that are closer to their home, so they can have access to easier transportation. That being said, students in high school come from the same area. In high school, there are fewer clubs and organizations. Because faculty runs clubs and organizations, if a student wants to create a club, it usually takes a long time because they need the approval of their teachers and faculty. Since students abide by their parent 's rules and live at home, they have little to no social life outside of high school. In college, students are independent and therefore have to be careful of their
Entering college can be intimidating, it’s a whole new different life style, there are new people, professors, and the classes are so much different compared to high school. There are some many ways to get adjusted to the college life, but the greatest way is by joining Greek life, either a sorority or a fraternity. Most people believe that Greek life is dangerous because of hazing that has been going on and the way the media portrays Greek life, therefore it has become a controversial issue. They think that all we do is drink, party and haze the pledges. But what people do not know is when joining a fraternity or sorority it actually helps you do better in school it helps you get better networking and of course brotherhood. Students should join Greek life because it can make them a very successful person, for example “Since 1825, all but three
The history of fraternity and sorority was invented years ago due to the limitation of regulations on student’s activities and clubs. They are mainly known for their work and service within the community and campus. But the questionable act of sorority and fraternity impact on student’s education and life is the main concern. The commitment and dedication of members within sorority and fraternity overtakes majority of student’s life. In the journal, “The Effects of Fraternity/Sorority Membership on College Experiences and Outcomes,” authors Asel, Pascerella and Seifret, provides the explanation of a Greek’s life experience and the outcome of it. Studies has showed that the number of students spend more hours per week participating in extracurricular
Because of this club experience, students will be better college candidates due to their leadership skills. Future success will be a topic we discuss, especially through application of skills we educate. Our focus is not service or diversity, rather educating students with the necessary skills to make a difference and be successful during and after high school.
At a community college, extracurricular activities are limited because the student population is smaller and at a larger college such as an university more activities are offered to the students to try to get everyone socially active. Staying socially active is a great way to meet new people and create lasting friendships. American Psychological Association’s Health Psychology journal in June 2014 wrote to Harvard Women’s Health Watch that staying mentally and physically active and having strong social connections can improve your overall health. (qtd .in American Psychological Association). The more activities participated in not only can be beneficial to making new friends but also your health. If attending a community college and not having extracurricular activities around campus how else can one make friends? Community colleges don’t always offer ways to make friends so it leads an individual to go out of their own way to start the process. So when attending a university rather than a community college chances of meeting new people seem to be higher considering the amount of people an individual would be constantly around. Community colleges offer sports but not in the same way universities do. More social events or extracurricular activities students can attend and make new friends is at sporting events. Usually sporting events that are going on at universities are a bigger deal. Meaning more
The importance of college student life and involvement as it pertains to student success and retention in college
In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. Involvement in extra events has provided a balance for rigorous course study. With the pressures that college brings, I will probably want to be involved in many groups.
In college a student should question what it means to be part of a clique. Although they were popular in high school, many students do not belong to cliques in college. In fact, being involved in a clique simply portrays a student as being scared to make new contacts and expand his or her world. In sum, how a person socializes in college can lead to one’s development or downfall. Losing track of goals is the last thing a student wishes to do. How we socialize tells our classmates and future employers who we are. Socialization in college makes us open ourselves to the world, and in so doing, we must assume responsibility for all our choices.
There are many benefits of student clubs directed towards students, instructors, etc. The benefits for students include developing leadership and self-esteem skills. Students also become acquainted with the community members, instructors, and students. The students also apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in their club. Some other advantages are learning to work as a team and with people from different ethnicities. Time management is one of the most crucial factors to college success for every student in college. Firstly, while living on campus, time usually isn’t an issue to students because they live on school grounds. There are many advantages that come with time and one of them is getting to class on time. However, this is actually the opposite for commuters because getting to class on time is quite a struggle. They have to struggle to wake up earlier than usual in order to use the public transportation. Students living on campus also have more access to on-site facilities because they don’t have to worry about going home so there is no time limit on how long they occupy these areas. An example is staying in the library because this is where you can get help from tutors on subjects you are struggling with. Also, they can use the writing center for as long as it is open without worrying about time. In contrast, commuters are limited to the use of these facilities because they have to take time into consideration while staying at the library or work...
