Personal Narrative: Student Trustee

I believe that I am more than capable of juggling my responsibility as Student Trustee with my other obligations. I have plenty of experience balancing responsibilities and I have developed many skills which allow me to make the best use of my time.
In the past, I have had plenty of experience balancing academic responsibilities with other activities. I am a very active student around my school and community, and through this, I have gained the experience required to understand how best to manage my time and how to handle many tasks at once. In my school, I am involved with Student Council, Student Voice, Social Committee, our School’s Musicals, DECA, and several other clubs and leadership initiatives. There are a few helpful strategies I use to allow me to manage my time. Firstly, I try to finish assignments as soon as they are assigned, not right before they are due. I always keep an up to date to do list, and prioritize my responsibilities. When I have time I can use to tackle my responsibilities, I allot a certain amount of time to each task and set a timer. This makes sure I finish the tasks, but also prevents me from getting distracted. I also keep a calendar of upcoming events and deadlines so I can keep future responsibilities in mind when planning my time. You can not say, “I'll do it later” if you also remember about the responsibilities you will have later on. When I add things to my calendar, I make sure to also add reminders well before a deadline so I remember to start working on a task well in advance. It is very important not to overload yourself with too much, but sometimes things happen outside of your control, and knowing how to respectfully approach a teacher or peer and explain the situation is very important.
If I become a Student Trustee, I would use these skills to make sure I met deadlines and keep up with the responsibilities of being Trustee as well as going above and beyond what is required, and finding other ways to be involved around the board and with the student body.
It is the role of the Student Trustee to portray the ideas of student population regarding board-wide matters. How will you work with staff and the Board of Trustees to ensure that the voices of all students are heard around the Board table?

My main goal as Student Trustee is to represent the student body. I plan to do this to the best of my abilities, and that involves working closely and appropriately with any staff or trustees that may be important to the task at hand. When collaborating with them, it is essential to respect them and not to blindsight them. With that in mind, it is important to maintain an open line of communication with staff so that the voice of the student body can be shared
