Life Plan Portfolio Steps I Need to Take During/After College to Become a Pathologist After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in a life science such as biology, I still have a difficult path to complete in order to become a pathologist. In my last years of college, I will need to prepare to take the MCAT to get into medical school. Also, during my years of college I will need to complete volunteer work and internships related to the medical field to build my resume for medical school admissions. Some of these programs may include working in a lab, since I am interested in pathology, or even traveling to a developing country during the summer to volunteer with their medical programs. Also, while I am in medical school I will need to continue …show more content…
However, as I am approaching the end of the quarter, I found that these assignments have helped me significantly in learning how to utilize my years of college to the best of my ability. In addition, coming out of this class I have gained much more knowledge in my career interest as well as learned the proper steps of how to prepare for that career. At the beginning of the quarter we were asked to complete a mind map about why we were going to college. I thought this was a great starting point to see what I needed to complete more research on during the quarter. In week 2, we completed an assignment discussing our note taking skills, study habits, organization, and time management. This was very helpful for me because I got to assess my own skills and see what I need to improve on, as well as see what strategies other students use. Next, I took personality test to figure out what career interests fit into my personality. I eventually found that I am on the right track with science-based career interest. This assignment was helpful for me because I was able to validate that I was on the right track as well as consider other careers. Next, the fake news assignments I found to be useful for my college and life knowledge, since it opened my eyes to how information can be manipulated to make people think a certain way, which I will now be cautious of. The library activity was also very important for me, since I will be taking classes at Cascadia for the rest of the year and I will need know how to utilize the library and all of their sources. Next, the resumes current and dream assignment helped me significantly in learning what credentials I need to earn before I achieve my dream of becoming a pathologist. The next assignment about stress and wellness was also very helpful in preparing me for college since I know that I will encounter a lot of stressful times and I will need to know how to manage
My favorite assignment is the Industry Profile Report. This assignment allow myself to browse through companies that maybe one day I will be working for and see what jobs are open. I really appreciate this assignment.
During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. Again, the journey was long, but I will be forever grateful for the things that I, and all of my peers have gained from this
Among these programs are Speech and Debate, Business Professionals of America, Health Occupation Students of America, and all Advanced Placement classes will help prepare you for a career in the medical field. In order to work in a health care field you must be outgoing, able to work alongside others, and maintain a certain level of professionalism which all of the classes promote. “Doctors who display superior communication and leadership qualities advance to supervisory or managerial positions in hospitals and health networks. Those who start their own practices take on entrepreneurial roles and employ staff according to their needs. Some doctors join medical schools as faculty, and can gradually move into administrative roles” (Careers). By taking vigorious classes throughout your high school career you can be better prepared to achieve supervisory or managerial
The first day of my junior year I was extremely overwhelmed by this class; all the essays we were required to write in the first week didn't help much either. However, since the beginning of the year I have learned so many useful and important lessons which have guided my learning throughout this first semester and, I'm assuming, will continue to guide me for the rest of my high school experience and beyond. In addition, I have made many goals which pertain to essays I have written, and I believe I have met those goals.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. The passionate way in which he discussed the practice of medicine led me to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a physician. He explained that a career in the medical field was about responsibility, the responsibility to work with all members of the healthcare team for the well-being of the patient as well as their family
Health psychology has been an appealing subject to me because it is relatable on many levels. Of the topics we have covered in class I think unit 3 have left the deepest impression. Stress is something everyone can relate to but probably understood on the minimum. Stress is a common experience for university students and without an exception I fall victim to it every time an exam or presentation comes up. Learning about this topic, what stress is, what it does to your body, how it affects your behavior has lead me to reflect upon past experiences in a way that I can learn to better cope with the effects of stress.
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
1. The assignment I felt was most useful was the reflective story telling activity. This was my favorite because it gave me the opportunity to step into other student’s shoes, and experience something either similar or different as far as facing sterotypes. It was a great experience because we don’t realize no matter what race you are we all face adversity.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
After taking all the assessments I learned a little more about myself and the careers I might like and also validated some
These things alone will not help get good grades, the student 's have to put effort into everything that they do. Just do one assignment at a time, do not worry about assignments in the future or the current grades will be effected because the student is not putting enough effort into them. Tests count as the majority of the grade, so when it comes time to take it,
In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
