There are many factors to consider as to why a student may have failed or had to retake a class, but we believe there is one major factor that most people neglect to think about. Students are unable to understand the material due to the style professors use to teach. When students are unable to understand the material, they begin to get frustrated. Some eventually begin to give up because they think they will never be able to learn the material. So, why is it that some students can pass a class while others do not? We think that each student has their own unique learning style while each professor has their own way of teaching. Some professors teach by lectures, some use visuals, some use hands-on activities, and some use a variety of these methods. When taking these simple factors into consideration, it is easy to see why a student that learns best by viewing pictures or diagrams may struggle or become distracted easily during a lecture-based course ("Types of Learning Styles.") This can cause them to do poorly in the class and if they need to retake the class again it …show more content…
There are many different types of learning styles including, visual, aural, multi-modal, and kinesthetic (Welch). People that prefer to learn visually like to see pictures and graphs while someone that is an aural learner needs auditory stimulation like lectures and music. For someone that is a kinesthetic leader, they enjoy the hands on activities in a classroom. This would include building things, role playing, and real life experiences. However, some people prefer two or more learning styles, these people are considered multimodal learners. One goal of ours is to get students to become multimodal learners. We then plan to find a workshop that specializes in teaching professors about different learning styles and how to adjust their teaching methods to be able to get through to students with a variety of learning
We would visit the garden in the school and finally, watch a video with audio on plants. I will use mixed ability grouping for group activities for the students to identify plant types by the leaves and discuss among each other each type. The long time learning activities for the class will be for the student to learn how to plant, water, give nutrition to plant by planting a beans in a pot and we all watch it grow. The students Knowledge will be accessed by giving the students the option of either search the internet for more facts about plant and write a short paragraph about what they learned, or draw and label a picture of a plant and taking a quiz they discuss their answer in
The Blake and Mouton Leadership grid studies how leaders help an organization through concern for production and/or concern for people and is based on a nine point scale
According to the learning styles theory there are three main learning styles. The first is visual. This is a student who prefers to see the information through notes, pictures, or demonstration. The second is auditory. This type of learner prefers to hear the information through lecture or recordings. The third is kinesthetic. A kinesthetic learner prefers to learn information through practical exercises and physically performing the task being taught. The learning styles theory is that if you teach a student by using their preferred learning ...
I am writing this essay about learning styles. More notably I will write about my personal learning style. Also a quick idea of why I chose to go back to school to seek a degree. There are multiple learning styles out in the world audible, tactile, and visual. Audible learning style focuses on learning by listening and sound patterns. Visual learning focuses on learning by using pictures, drawings, shapes, paintings and sculptures. Tactile or kinesthetic learning style focuses on learning by a more hands on approach using gestures, touching, body movement, positioning and object manipulation. I am a tactile and visual learner and in the next paragraph I will discuss these findings.
The learning styles test identified me as a tactile-kinesthetic learner, meaning that I learn best by doing, rather than listening or seeing. This means that I need to adapt my studying to methods that correlate with this style. Some of the suggestions given by the Abiator’s active classroom website seemed useful and relevant, such as using flashcards while pacing the room, while others seemed absurd, such as covering my workspace in colored construction paper.
There are many of peculiarities between being a traditional and non traditional student. I have been enrolled at Bethel University for 2 years and 7 months and I love the freedom of being a non traditional student. Being a non traditional student mean having access to a virtual campus at any time of the day or night. Some online universities are synchronous and other are asynchronous. Synchronous is were students appear online to complete the assignment together and asynchronous is just the opposite. I enjoy the discussions and debates with students but for working adults or stay at home parent this can cause difficulties.
Growing up learning and speaking English has been something that was difficult for me at first but then came easy, but that was not the case for my mother. She spent her whole life speaking Spanish, so when she decided to take English learning classes it was challenging. However, she had me to help her throughout her struggle. I helped her complete her homework and assignments. We would also go to the library to check out easy level reading books to have her read to me. I would correct her English when it was wrong and do all I could to boost her confidence. It took me a while to understand and figure out what the best way to teach her was, but it was a fun experience for the both of us. Teaching her English was difficult because things that
Methods like experiments, field trips or role play are rarely used. Because of that, labs and tutorials are more essential for these learners. Among the methods that can help these learners are by trying to use all the senses in the learning process because the more senses you use the higher recall will be, as you have many clues. In addition, make notes with several examples for each concept and use your own examples, the more personal examples you create, the better you remember. A very important thing to note is that this questionnaire is not designed to predict the ability of someone to make the diagnosis.
Our subjectivity is heavily influenced by the amount of education that we receive. The effort that people contribute to enhancing academic excellence today is what makes learning possible and effective. Through the proper use of our academic knowledge we can construct society together. Schooling is an evident pathway toward generating social change and it is important that education is properly enforced and easily accessed by all people. Because education enables a person to grasp an understanding of his or her society, we as educated people have a crucial responsibility for contributing to social advancement.
Humans are so different when learning that there are not enough names to describes all the ways of learning that exist, as each person has a different one. Learning is a process in which we get to know things about a subject that we do not have much knowledge about and we try to understand the concepts behind it. Each one of us has specific needs, factors or strategies that influence this process and helps it to be as productive as it can be. Personally I think that we all, by the time we get into college, know our specific needs, factors and strategies in which we tend to study and learn in a more productive way. In terms of needs I tend to prefer studying with someone as this helps me to share ideas and also be an auditory learner. The factors that are
Everyone has different learning styles. Learning styles are important because they help you better understand materials in classes. They are there to guide you and become a better student. Learning styles help you better grasp the material and better process it through your brain. When learning you want to do what is most beneficial for you. That is why there is many different learning styles to suit every person. There is three different types of learning styles categorized. The first learning style is auditory. Auditory is meant for individuals that enjoy asking questions, talking and listening, as well as like to read out loud. Visual learners are more interested in charts, graphs, neat surroundings, seeing rather than hearing, and are pictured to be timid as they read to themselves rather than out loud. Finally there is the kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic is to touch, to feel, and usually learn by doing.
This report aims at exploring the conception of self-managed learning in the background of a higher education as well as the various benefits it yields to higher education students. The report has incorporated relevant and reliable investigation with the aim of creating a comprehensive image of the various aspects of self-managed learning and its benefits to higher education students. Whereas the various benefits of self-managed learning to higher education students have been acknowledged, the manner in which they can be affectively acquired are poorly understood.
To distinguish a student by their learning style, there must first be a review of the student’s abilities and the factors affecting their learning. When reviewing these factors there will be a sense of when the students responses are more consistent and help a teacher figure out when a student learns the best and how they learn as an individual. There are six different things that could affect the learning of a student: brain processing, senses, physical needs, environment, social needs, and emotional attitudes (Creative learning,1997).
One other co-teaching structure is alternative teaching. When a classroom has alternative teaching, “one teacher takes a small group of students and provides instruction that is different than what the large group is receiving” (Ferry). Alternative teaching provides intense instruction for selected students in the classroom. When a classroom has alternative teaching “one teacher will work with the majority of the class, while the other
Learning is commonly defined as the process of acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge through experiences. To me, learning is an ongoing process that continues throughout our lives. When referring to Robert E. Slavin ‘s book, Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice, he mentioned how people are already engaged in a learning environment where they receive stimuli everywhere they go, but they are only aware of some of the stimuli (p.129). By referring to Slavin’s book, what real learning is to me is when an individual actually notice those stimuli, learned particular information and skills from those stimuli, and being able to apply the things they learn to their daily life. Furthermore, when referring to the Operant Conditioning theory by B.F. Skinner, which is mentioned in Slavin’s book, real learning is also when an individual had a change in knowledge and behavior that is caused by experience or consequences, no matter if it is a positive or negative consequence.
