In leadership, that can mean being on various committees, boards, and participate in associations. It takes a great leader to accomplish much. It takes even greater dedication to have success. Being focused, exercising power, showing initiative, and being persistent is only the beginning of leadership. You have to be open-minded, seek services, find simple solutions to benefit all, connect to the community, and develop partnerships that can expand the services of the organization. Being a leader is being a role model for those who are seeking to advance in this profession. Emphasizing teamwork and encouraging change can be enlighten through committees and associations geared towards improving the profession to be able to withstand a changing society; specially a society that it steadily moving to the technology fast-paced field. The victory is not how much money or assets the organization wins but how much of an impact you have on those who seek services from your organization and leave there with a fulfill or purpose. There is no one way or right way to lead. There is no one theory practice that a leader must follow in order to see success. Leadership is earned by those who go the extra mile and exceed above and beyond what is required of them without being prompted. Strive to improve your own skills to become a stronger leader in whatever aspect or position you find yourself in any given type of library. “Be a visionary, set goal, look for new ideas” (Misakian, p. 16). A leader seeks out strengths of their employees without blocking growth and they maintain confidence in their skills. They allow those who follow them to think out of the box yet they can redesign a process when those major decisions need to be implemented. As a leader, you should be seeking replacements for your position. In this, you should be looking for the next great leader; a protégé. Most great leaders are mentors and take it not for granted that they have those who value their judgment and vision. Shakespeare’s ‘King Henry IV Part I’ centres on a core theme of the conflict between order and disorder. Such conflict is brought to light by the use of many vehicles, including Hal’s inner conflict, the country’s political and social conflict, the conflict between the court world and the tavern world, and the conflicting moral values of characters from each of these worlds. This juxtaposition of certain values exists on many levels, and so is both a strikingly present and an underlying theme throughout the play. Through characterization Shakespeare explores moral conflict, and passage three is a prime example of Falstaff’s enduring moral disorder. By this stage in the play Hal has ‘reformed’, moved away from his former mentor Falstaff and become a good and honourable prince.

Throughout history, there have been great leaders: civil rights leaders, business leaders, and spiritual leaders who have inspired millions. Leaders and visionaries such as John Lennon or Martin Luther King Jr. fought for unity, love, and made an impact on people through their speeches or songs. Watching these great men touch the hearts of millions has brought out a desire for me to become a C.E.O. and an important leader in the life of others. Not only do leaders have knowledge in politics, in emotional values, and spread a certain message or “vision” to their followers or co-workers, but they have certain special characteristics which make them great leaders or heroes. So, what makes these people different from you and me? Could it be that they are better looking? Perhaps they speak in parables or give great speeches? People have often said to me that a good leader is a person who guides both physically and mentally. Going to the job shadowing program has given me an opportunity to broaden my view on how efficient and effective a good leader can be in the work place. Something that has been shown to me in my many interviews with the board of directors has been that every leader must have the capability to have integrity, listen, a vision, and must be responsible.

We all know that ROTC is about leadership. But what is leadership? What does leadership mean? And how can you become a leader? John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." Honestly when I decided to transfer to UTC and register for ROTC, I was thinking “what am I getting myself into?” I always had passion for the military, but I couldn’t believe I was wavering a Track and Field scholarship to join an organization I hardly knew anything about, apart from commercials, documentaries and films. However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that during the past two years I’ve learned so much about myself and the qualities it takes to become a great leader and a great person.
When comparing my Big Five Personality scores to the class average, I received a score of 6 and the average was 5.7, one score did not come to a surprise. My personality is reliant on my strength of conscientiousness. Individuals who score high in conscientiousness tend to be methodical, well-organized, achievement orientated, and ethically guided. The conscientious personality type has a strong correlation to leader emergence which I can attest is true. I often am the first individual in the group to take reigns because of my organization, self-discipline, and need to create a plan before acting.

To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders.
