Throughout the years, there have been many great business leaders and influential CEOs; men and women with great leadership qualities and innovative thinking who have changed their companies. Among the many great leaders, there is one man who is highly recognized and praised for his accomplishments; Steve Jobs. Jobs was an extraordinary man. He left his mark and changed many industries, including; personal computers, music, phone, animation and film, and portable computing. However, Jobs was not always the most liked person, in fact, many of his colleagues complained that he was very tough to work with and many quit their jobs because of this. Jobs had an intense drive and demanded only the absolute best from his employees. But Jobs was a very …show more content…
This lead to the questioning of Steve Jobs’ position in the company since he was now seen as a liability. Ultimately, Jobs resigned from Apple and started another company. Jobs was very successful in his 12-year absence from Apple. He learned from his experiences and gained more leadership skills. I believe this is the point when Jobs transitioned from an autocratic leadership style to a democratic leadership style. When Jobs returned to Apple, the company began to thrive and experience great success. Steve Jobs now had a more open-minded style and created an environment of innovation and encouraged his employees to collaborate. An interesting quote by Steve Jobs states, “Great things in business are never done by one person, they’re done by a team of people.” Before leaving Apple, Jobs didn’t care as much for his employees, but after his experiences from being absent from Apple, Jobs truly believed in his people and created a culture of creativity in which employees could share their ideas and innovate their …show more content…
Although Steve Jobs was known for being very demanding, this was primarily because of his great vision. His vision is what drove him to do great things and it is also what drove his employees and follwers. Jobs was always thinking of the future, he had a clear idea of what he wanted to accomplish in all of his business ventures. For example, when Jobs left Apple, he bought a small animation company called Pixar. Jobs had a clear vision and believed that Pixar would be very successful. His investment and vision in the company proved to be right when Pixar’s first film, “Toy Story”, was a blockbuster and broke records. This investment made Steve Jobs a billionaire. This achievement, and all of Jobs’ achievements, are due to his clear vision in everything that he set himself to do. Steve jobs once said, “If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” This is highly evident in Jobs’ entire career, his vision is what pushed him and what inspired his many
Steve Jobs was a transactional leader who influenced his employees to have a strong desire for work and provided them with vision. He was a task oriented leader his focus was more on task and organization performance than on people. Job got people to follow him rather they like him or not. Job was also an adaptive leader he used himself as an example to lead the company. Jobs was not concerned about how the employees felt his focus was only on their ideas. Jobs had the ability to motivated employees to accomplish more than what they could dream possible. Steve had a demanding personality and was a perfectionist.
The first computer that Jobs and his partner created was very successful and if it weren't for competition that might have been the end of it. Jobs had to continue expanding and coming up with new and more advanced technology in order to beat the competition and stay ahead of the game. Some people may argue that Apple products would continue expanding even if America was under a capitalist system. This is false because if America was under a capitalist system the government regulation would decelerate the progress he was making and Apple may never have reached the potential it has reached today. The power of competition played a key role in the success and development of the innovative company
Jobs put in countless hours of practice, at least 10,000 to be exact. 10,000 hours it the ‘rule’ that Gladwell greatly believes in—the rule that in order for an individual to master any skill, they must put in 10,000 hours of focused practice. Steve’s persistence in his field to continue working despite failures such as The Lisa computer, Macintosh Portable, or Macintosh TV. 10,000 hours. He doesn’t have 10,000 hours of either an engineer, designer or programmer, but does have the connection between all the traits that made his company so successful. Steve Jobs' value was in his ability to understand the user experience. Throughout the course of his career, Jobs was able to witness what worked well and what did not. He had the great ability to convince people that what he was doing was right; not just in a rational sense; but exuding a quality of righteousness; almost like he was on a spiritual mission and he had all the answers. This quality probably came from his ability to judge people's emotions and what they would like to hear, while also having a great knowledge of how technology could be personalized through a humanistic touch. All of these little Jobs related tidbits condense into my answer about Jobs' 10,000 hours. He spent his 10,000 hours at the exact intersection of technology and the humanities; for a while seeming to be the only individual that fully understood the
Yes, because through simplicity became a focus of fuel that powered the design of a new product. Each product Jobs had introduced worldwide; thousands of buyers were lined up longer than the Black Friday’s longest streak of shoppers. The attention of attraction of buyers and products was the leader behind it all. Steve Jobs had shown the interface of his company and himself between the product 's capabilities. Innovation was the defining word of Steve Jobs; Jobs legacy is within media charts, magazines, and articles. Jobs fiery streak marked the many books of leadership qualities. Steve Jobs created a Legacy beyond all Entrepreneurs. Taking dreams beyond limits of vision, leading his path to new beginnings. Jobs took the ability to lead his company through tough situations through motivation and authority. History is a ceiling high with the business of Apple 's foundation and the leader behind it all. Jobs ego did meet the standards of a true allegiance against his family or former friends. Jobs saw the obstacles within conditions that had got in the way of vision. With cancer at the red zone: Jobs never gave up his position, even if the aching pains impaled the need to stop leading courage. With goals to succeed, a plan was needed. Jobs made visions for a reason to circulate through the company. The eye of the company is the veil that Jobs is behind the concept, and the reasons the company made
Steve Jobs charisma mostly depends on his knowledge and understanding of the technology he is absorbed. To technology field, Jobs may not compete to his engineers, nevertheless, he, together with Wozniak, has been the founder of Apple, and they also produced the very first hardware together (Isaacson, 2012). From this point of view, his understanding in technological field combined with visionary gift help him develop his vision and deliver it properly to his employees.
He knew how he wanted things and wouldn 't accept it any other way. He was constantly trying to do new things, and was never satisfied. Depending on how you look at this, it can be a good or a bad thing, but nonetheless he was a difficult man to work with. As the company grew, this became more and more of problem. Eventually, Steve Jobs was fired from his own company. For the next several years, he continued to do the same type of work and even started another computer company called NEXT Computers. In 1997, Steve Jobs returned to Apple and took on the position of CEO where he remained until he passed away in 2011
“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do (Moncur 1).” This statement by Steve Jobs is what I believe drove him to his success. Jobs had a very successful life and impacted many people around the globe. He led the way of how computers are used and accessed today. To fully understand and appreciate Steve Job’s work, a person has to first understand his background, how he developed his projects, and the lasting impact it had on the world.
The selection of contemporary leader book was challenging at first, however after considering the attributes and qualities of different leadership styles Steve Jobs: Ten lessons in leadership written by Michael Essany was the best choice. This book discussed what can be learned as a leader and the lessons are relevant to my own leadership style. There is a direct relationship of the lessons and Steve Jobs’ leadership style identified including wait for nothing, fail big or don’t bother failing, limit your confidence to your field, there’s no substitute for passion, consider your legacy before you have one, and there’s always ‘one more thing’ (Essany, 2012). The lessons illustrated that Steve Jobs was progressive in his thinking and relentless to develop technological advancements that consumers could not live without. Therefore, Steve Jobs leadership style was influential and other entrepreneurs need to utilize these lessons in pursuit of similar success.
Steve’s eye for the beauty within technology and his passion for the user experience are they key factors to Apples success. Steve jobs had a rather unique and controversial leadership style that was highly scrutinized by his board of directors as wells as his employees, but ultimately led to the companies success. Jobs leadership could be defined by saying he used the Relational Leadership Model or the Transformational Leadership Model, or even the Great Man Leadership Model, but the truth was that Steve Jobs did not fit into just one of these model. Jobs had a philosophy and leadership style that was authentic and indecent which caused a great deal of friction within Apple. Jobs was known for scourging his employees, working them to death, and then throw them away when he was done with them.
I was involved in a situation where leadership was ineffective by my director of obstetrics. The topic involved our hiring policy. We had multiple candidates for a nursing position. Due to staffing shortages, this position need filled as soon as possible. My role was assistant nurse manager on night shift. It was myself, the other night shift assistant manager, and our director present for the interview. We had a candidate apply that had a few years of post partum experience, and I worked with her in the past at another facility, though did not recommend her. I kept my opinion quiet, because I always want to be fair. The interview started and was not going well. The candidate did not answer questions well, nor did she look at us in the eyes. She was dressed sloppy and did not possess any professionalism. Towards the end of the interview, the director started to ask when she could start, the compensation, and continued to give her a tour of the unit. The other assistant manager and I could not believe what we were seeing. The director hired her on the spot. This leadership was ineffective in a variety of different ways.
We think Steve Jobs was a successful leader because he was imaginative, passionate about his job, he had the ability to push employees to create new things, had confidence, and believed in collaboration. Under Steve Jobs' leadership Apple was an innovative company and under Tim Cook's leadership Apple is now being seen as more of charitable, socially and ethically responsible company. While [he’s heard the repeated refrains that “Apple can’t innovate under Tim,” that the company needed a low-cost iPhone to thwart the progress of Google’s Android, that Cook never could replicate the Jobs magic—and therefore that Apple never again would be “insanely great.” ] (Lashinsky, 2015), he hasn’t changed his methods since Jobs’ passing and continues to lead in a way that he believes will raise Apple’s value in the eyes of society.
Steve Jobs main leadership styles in my opinion were: directing and coaching. Mr. Jobs was a great director of the company and he showed in different occasions where he was able to bring to company afloat after hard times. At the same time, he was very good in development people skills to reach his goals. Even though, sometimes his methods were questionable.
The purpose of writing this essay is to give an idea how these two respected CEOs of multinational companies has changed the world. Technology is booming nowadays, even the minor things that we can do manually are done using technology. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple computer and Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has changed the world. These two leaders are best known for their innovations which has taken our world to the next level. Steve and Bill has got something in common. Surprisingly, both of these CEO had never graduated from college, but they are known to be the world most successful leaders and they both work in the same kind of company (Lashinsky, 2013). Nevertheless, their leadership styles differs (Peralta,2011). The way they treat the employees at the workplace is in contrast.
There are many challenges being a coach or any type of leader. If you are in either of these positions a big challenge would be how to make your organization better than others. Coaches need to come up with a game plan to outperform other teams. This is extremely hard when there are tons of other coaches also trying to do the same thing. The second challenge is implementing the plan you do create. A coach needs to not only be an expert at how to be better than other teams, but also be a proficient teacher. An amazing master plan means nothing if you can’t get your players to execute the plan. The most challenging thing about being a coach is keeping your players motivated. If your players don’t care and just stop trying then it doesn’t matter how good your plan
Firstly, Joshua Michael Stern (Director) and Matt Whitely (Screenwriter) for this film were successfully express a kind portrait of a driven and complicated man who dedicated his life in revolutionize that the way people use computers. Besides that, Ashton Kutcher who was acting as Steve Jobs as the main character of the film was really good as he could really show the leadership and having same vision as the character that he was acting. In another hand, by look through the storyline of Jobs the Film (2013), I had also found out there is a weakness that shows in the film. To prove with my personal opinion, the main character’s (Steve Jobs) strength which is leadership could also be look as his weakness as those very qualities of leadership were also the means for his isolation and dropping for his
