The selection of contemporary leader book was challenging at first, however after considering the attributes and qualities of different leadership styles Steve Jobs: Ten lessons in leadership written by Michael Essany was the best choice. This book discussed what can be learned as a leader and the lessons are relevant to my own leadership style. There is a direct relationship of the lessons and Steve Jobs’ leadership style identified including wait for nothing, fail big or don’t bother failing, limit your confidence to your field, there’s no substitute for passion, consider your legacy before you have one, and there’s always ‘one more thing’ (Essany, 2012). The lessons illustrated that Steve Jobs was progressive in his thinking and relentless to develop technological advancements that consumers could not live without. Therefore, Steve Jobs leadership style was influential and other entrepreneurs need to utilize these lessons in pursuit of similar success.

The interviewees guide readers through their journey to become the leaders they are today; discussing their failures, successes, obstacles, personal tragedies and triumphs. The stories of each manager prove the True North’s thesis, which is no one person is born a leader and there isn’t one path to becoming a leader. The book is separated into three sections: 1) Leadership is a Journey 2) Discover Your Authentic Leadership 3) Empowering People to Lead. The leadership is a privilege and it is such a privilege and an honor which will carry the tremendous responsibility which will inspire others to direct them to accomplish goals and vision of the organization. Leadership is about influencing the people, by producing direction, purpose and motivating in order to accomplish the mission, vision and improving the organization. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Steve jobs is a wise man, I didn’t expect him to be so philosophical. He managed to capture this image of death and how people fear it. As he said we all will die one day, nothing is forever. Although if someone lives in fear of death everyday then they are living a rather sheltered life. Yes I understand that everyone must have limitations as to how wild they choose to live but sheltering yourself from this beautiful and hideous world isn’t the solution.
