There are many challenges being a coach or any type of leader. If you are in either of these positions a big challenge would be how to make your organization better than others. Coaches need to come up with a game plan to outperform other teams. This is extremely hard when there are tons of other coaches also trying to do the same thing. The second challenge is implementing the plan you do create. A coach needs to not only be an expert at how to be better than other teams, but also be a proficient teacher. An amazing master plan means nothing if you can’t get your players to execute the plan. The most challenging thing about being a coach is keeping your players motivated. If your players don’t care and just stop trying then it doesn’t matter how good your plan …show more content…
This is important because players are more likely to listen to you if they like and feel comfortable with you. Providing assessment is an important part of being an effective leader because you are aware of where you are and know where you need to go. This is the ability to spot a problem, find a solution, and do it. Leaders need to challenge thinking and break away from the norm. If it weren’t for some out of the box thinkers, the advancement of our society would have taken much longer. Steve Jobs is a good example of an individual who did something nobody thought was possible at the time. Leaders need to be supporting and encouraging. This ties into building a relationship with those you are leading, because nothing is more motivating than hearing “good job” from someone you are trying to impress. It is very important to give someone feedback so they know they are going in the right direction. The last effective key to being a successful coach is to drive results and achieve goals. If you work for someone you have to meet their goals but, if you are the leader those goals need to be set by you for you and others to
This constitutes the single largest barrier to successful coaching. Common barriers to
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
Coaches should have an arrangement of fundamental abilities that they depend on to produce a positive outcome. Definition of a coach from the American Heritage Dictionary, Third Edition (page 167) One who trains or directs an individual or team, to train or instruct teach a team. The goal behind coaching is to exhibit the ability to get the most out of everyone on the team. It should be a goal to bring out the greatest potential from every team member. It’s insane how many players do not even know their true potential. Successful coaches assess these individuals and the team to advance them to the next level of sports. "The Little Book of Coaching, Motivating People to be Winners" by Ken Blanchard and Don Shula (2001) gives a great acronym of the word C-O-A-C-H. The acronym breaks down as follows: Conviction Driven: never compromise your beliefs-Overlearning: practice until it is perfect-Audible-Ready: know when to change-Consistency: respond predictably to performance-Honesty-Based: walk your talk. This acronym should remind you of your job as a coach. A good coach
From most of the questions I asked, they were a few of the basic things I would need in order to be a great coach. One of the main questions was taking criticism from fans. The fans are always just fans. Which means they know nothing about the amount of work your team puts in or know anything about what the team may be going through so just let them be. The most hurdle one will have to overcome is to telling a player he/she is not good enough for the
Steve Jobs was a college dropouts with no big plans. No one would have guessed that him and two of his friends working in a garage would be the beginning of a revolution in the world of technology. The free enterprise system made it possible for Steve Jobs to revolutionize the world with Apple products.

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
As a coach you do fail sometimes and that's what is difficult but Michael Jordan once said, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeeded.” I believe that this goes for coaching as well because you are going to fail over and over again and you will soon see that those failures are actually your accomplishments. No one said life was easy but coaching can be easy and it’s a way to connect with players and others and bring out the best in people and show that people can work together and accomplish many things no matter how difficult or hard it is and it can be fun and thrilling at the same
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.

Coaching leadership has isn’t good points when you need to help a group of people become better, however this way isn’t the best for a business because people can take it a different way or you may not be able to help them get better. Coaching can get people motivated and raise skill level but it also can fail by people thinking you are micromanaging them(Wall Street Journal and Wise Toast) . Some people hate being told how to do things a certain way and sometimes this how Coaching leadership comes off and that could cause a lot of problems with business chemistry in the long run(Wall Street Journal).
I view coaching sports through my filter of being a fighter pilot (a player on a demanding athletic team) and leading around three other pilots in a 4-ship formation (the first string) as the “flight lead” (the team captain) that was part of a squadron (the team) of about 25 pilots (players) who were all technically skilled, qualified, and proficient with sound tactical awareness in a “High Ego, High Tasks” environment. We were “mastery-oriented” and “success seekers” in a “Competitive Climate”. Everyone wanted to be the best and competition was fierce yet friendly (similar, I guess, to some of what was portrayed in the movie Top Gun). We were all physically fit to fly one of the most maneuverable and physically demanding jets every conceived
For this I have developed the characteristic of being honest and true to my words, to bring the environment of just and fairness. I gave due respect to all players, so they can trust ne and start thinking for team’s benefits. Essentially, as a coach my motto in this regard was “equal rewards for equal performance.” I gave my team members full confidence to speak-up when they have any kind of issue. In this prospect some of my senior coaches also helped me in becoming a good leader and coach. They provided their complete guidance and support which helped me in a lot in achieve my goal. They also helped in developing right kind of attitude that influenced the behavior of all the athletes. As leaders are individuals who significantly affect the thoughts and behavior of others, not through coercion but rather through persuasion. So by adopting this positive attitude I became successful in resolving all the conflicts in the players. One of the biggest challenge which I had faced being a leader was to select a strong and competent captain because it is very difficult situation when a captain is not a solid player. After giving due attention and by evaluating their performance, I select a solid captain who is also a solid player. Now it’s
