I have had a great learning experience in the lab section of biol 230. This was the first science laboratory class I had taken in college. I think I developed different methods of studying and learned a lot of things that I will probably carry with me throughout my years in the university and beyond as a STEM major. I developed not only in my cognitive skills but also I felt that the class helped me develop myself in my noncognitive skills as a person who is somewhat socially anxious/awkward. I felt confident in talking to my colleagues and contributing my ideas and thoughts as each class that went by. I especially think the poster sessions and the group discussions (jigsaw puzzle) were very beneficial because I got to discuss what I learned …show more content…
One particular Lab that I loved and I learned a lot from was the Enzyme lab, it was the first Lab in which everything was timed and had to be super precise, my group and I performed the part of the concentration effect on enzyme activity, I and another group member were responsible for measuring what went in to each to tube and mixing different tubes together, also I was responsible for watching the spectrophotometer and telling the recorder for the reaction rate of the enzyme activity at the appointed time. In this experiment using the exact ml of solutions, keeping track of the time and watching the spectrophotometer to get the absorbance was very important to get an accurate data. The other group who also did the enzyme concentration had a slight problem with measurements and timing, their results came out completely different and inaccurate, this taught me to follow lab instructions precisely because it can have a great impact on the results/data even if is a slight mistake such as going over the specific amount of time/seconds. Lastly, I learned from the enzyme lab, how to use excel to create the graphs for my
In addition to this, I feel that my Team building class gave me good insight into the inner workings and mechanics of how teams work. More work.
Erik Erikson was heavily influenced by Freud but while Freud was an ID psychologist, Erikson was an ego psychologist. Erikson stressed that the development of the ego depended heavily on personal and social aspects. “According to Erikson, the ego develops as it successfully resolves crises that are distinctly social in nature. These involve establishing a sense of trust in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and helping the next generation prepare for the future” (McLeod, S. 1970). His theory focused on personality development through eight distinct stages. He believed that personality progressed in a stacking or pre-determined manner, this is referred to as the epigenetic principle. One must
This course and as in Honors Biology, we were taught in a more oneself teaching rather than a lecture. I like the idea of not having a lecture, but when the teacher took a day to do a quick overview of each chapter, I learned the material and understood the material the best. I wish that we had that in each unit because I truly do like biology and when I understand a new concept fully it made me feel 10 times more comfortable on the test and the
topics and we only had a certain amount of time to complete them. Doing these every once and a while has taught me
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Ever since I was little I remember playing games where I would fight the bad guy and win the girl in the end. This never seem to affect me or make me wonder what small effect it had on my thought process. In games such as Zelda, call of duty, assassin creed, gears of war, Mario, and even halo you play as a white heterosexual male. The idea of playing this way never seemed to phase me as a young child. As I grew up and became more aware of the difference of people and the need for other as well as myself a need to be able to connect and find one 's self in different place such as games, movies, and TV shows. I became aware of the one sided views that video games seem to have. Then I realized that it was seen as acceptable to only have the one sided displayed due to the lack of speaking out on the need for change.
For instance, performing Hip Hop during the dance lab allowed me to understand the passion people have towards Hip Hop and I learned the four elements of Hip Hop. I was also able to understand and practice the moves I took notes in class about Ballet and Modern dance in the Contemporary lab. For instance, in class, we talked about the pointe technique and after performing this technique in the lab I understood even more. Additionally, the Jazz lab allowed me to thoroughly understand the four principles of Jazz which are vernacular, theatrical, Tap, and Hip Hop. On the other hand, the West African lab allowed me to recognize the importance behind the different types of drums after learning about this style of dance in class. Bharatanatyam was a style of dancing that was not covered in class, but I was able to apply Laban’s dynamic efforts to create my own definition for this style of dancing. The improvisation and choreography lab covered quite a few parts of the lecture, therefore I was able to refresh my mind on topics and/or answer any confusion I had regarding
I really found the idea of co-leadership interesting and all of the various issues when it comes to confidentiality. I had also never thought about the effect of termination without discussion within a group and how this could hurt other group members. I moreover liked the idea of the screening process and ideas to prepare for participants of the group. Reference List Corey, G., Corey, M., Callanan, P. (2011). Over the years, I have developed an innovative approach to teaching and conducting research with undergraduates through creating and presenting course materials in both laboratory and classroom settings. In my experience, the best teaching involves concrete, hands-on examples, so I engage students in my courses by encouraging the maximum laboratory participation possible.
...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. It allows me to look back on what has been done and learned from what did or did not work out. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. Aside from that, I have also managed to deal with people from different cultural background through teamwork and develop unique business ideas and market strategies.
...Some of the concepts we have had to learn include drawing the different elements in a bohr rutherford diagram, balancing chemical equations, types of chemical reactions, and the different types of acids and bases. Overall there were many other things in the unit that were very eye-opening as well, but these four definately helped me as a student have that ‘ah-ha’ moment, and they have definitely helped me learn about chemistry in a more in-depth way, appreciate chemistry and the science behind it a lot more, as well as teaching me something very new things such as how to neutralize Hydrochloric Acid inside of your stomach when it starts to pain. Learning these concepts in the classroom has really opened my eyes to the world in which we live in today, and now personally I will forever hold these memories and knowledge in my mind for when I really need it in my life.
In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence.
This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. The students see the results of these seeds planted under these conditions for the past week. Two plants in particular have already been grown their growth has been
I will fund my exhibit through donations and sales. I would reach out to the community, explain my exhibit and ask for donations, but I would primarily generate revenue through selling items related to the exhibit like prints of the works being shown, creative posters, key chains, t-shirts and other mementos. Additionally, I would have bake sales and fairs and other activities of a similar nature.
Class participation was great everyone joined in on the discussion. People in the class felt comfortable talking out loud and putting there two sense in.
