INTRODUCTION Every person requires basic things like food, house, clothes and transportation (to get to work) to survive. Life becomes stressful when people fail to meet basic needs. Each commodity and service has its own price so that these basic things too. Therefore, to avail basic necessities everybody requires certain amount of money. As monetary income is the reward of work, therefore, it can be generalized that employment is necessary for a person to earn money to survive and live life comfortably.
According to the definition given by Labour Force Survey (2014) an employed person is ‘‘anyone aged 16, or over, who has completed at least one hour of work in the period being measured, or are temporarily away from his or her job, such as being on holiday.’’ It is possible that number of people employed is not equals to the number of jobs offered as there can be a situation where a person holds more than one job and few with empty hands. At the same time, in India, having the status of being employed does not really mean the reasonable level of earning and series of benefits (Mohapatra, 2012). The female income has been treated as supplement income for the family. Women perform multiple tasks at home and outside but possess little control over their income, and productive resources. Women contribute, almost, in every domain of economy and society but their work is still not well recognized. They face gender discrimination at home as well as at workplace.
