Reflective essay Introduction Finding work, redundancy, getting the job you want and making the next step in your career are challenges many of us face at some time or another. But before we can begin their search, a self-assessment has to be conducted. By asking simple questions like: What do I usually do in my free time? Which subject interests me the most? What are my natural prerequisite skills? And so one. You are probably going to spend a large chunk of your time at your workplace and it therefore should not only earn you money but give you some form of enjoyment as well. An individual can already determine which direction he/she need to go. In some ways, the first year at a full-time job is very similar to your freshman year at school. You have to acclimate to the new environment, new people and new rules and acquire some new experience and skills. This is a transitional period, a time when you learn a lot about your job, and yourself. It is always difficult. While simple as they were, it turned out that listing your strength or weaknesses in a SWOT analysis turned out to be trickier than I thought. However, once you’ve actually spent a few hours on it all future questions regarding your skills become more repetitive than challenging. Another interesting seminar I attended had us bring various job advertisements, which we then discussed with the group. Carefully analysing the job description might save you and your employer some time as well as prepare you for the interview. As I have learned some additional questions (other than my education, skills and language barrier) should be considered before applying.
