I always found typing out essays was a piece of cake in high school. All I really did was go right into typing the whole thing in about an hour. But once I went into my first class in WRC 1013, my professor explains all these different types of essays. I went into class only given a simple topic to type about in high school. Now, I see I have to type an analysis, definition, and compare and contrast essays. Rather than just making up essays, like I did before, I started taking a different approach that my professor had advised me to do. I used methods like planning, drafting, and also going to the library to get it revised in order to get the grade I wanted. Instead of procrastinating back then, now, I tend to do it on the first day I receive this assignment and work on it constantly until this work is due. With the semester coming to an end, I feel like I improved on my typing skills, feeling I can type my essays with a proper and academically approach. …show more content…
I believe I need to work on my approach as to what I’m going to talk about in my papers. I tend to just get to the point and say what I’m going to explain in the essay, rather than a sentence that summarizes the main focus of the topic. One of the examples of my thesis is in the pursuit of happiness essay. I typed, “That’s what I’m going to tell you; what to spend it on, what not, and why” (Money Can… 1). In that essay, I was going to explain how money actually can make your life happier. But the way I started it, I show a really broad approach as into what I’m going to write about. I really have a bad habit of starting my thesis with “In this essay.” I believe this is a bad way to introduce the sentence, but it is definitely something I can fix when I type these
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
School is a process that takes time and a lot of dedication. When we finish high school we have to choose to go to college or not. Most people go to college without knowing what they want to do. The only thing we know is that we want a degree of some sort. Getting a college degree should be essential to everybody because without one you won’t be successful in life.
Individuals can benefit from having multiple literacies. Literacy in area outside of academia can be repurposed and used in academic settings too. The same is true for academic literacies; academic expertise can prove beneficial in other areas. In order to repurpose literacy, one would apply knowledge by reconstructing past literacies and reapplying it in order to enhance present literacies. One educator, Kevin Roozen, described repurposing literacy as blending together of extracurricular elements and of elements from other literate experiences (Roozen 18). Mary Maragrget Holt, dean of the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma, is a prime illustration of this very idea.
To begin this paper and connect it with my previous writing, I thought it appropriate to define rhetoric. Not from any readings or my own opinion, but from a different source. “A language that is intended to influence people and that may not be honest or reasonable” (Merriam-Webster 's Learner 's Dictionary). Per this definition, rhetoric is any information that is shared and meant to affect the reader or audience’s way of thinking. As mentioned in my second paper, the most significant rhetorical piece that I have written was a recent scholarship essay. This article was a part of an application process from which I was to earn funding for my college education. The topic of that essay was to describe the character, reason, and importance of
A college education has been linked to the American Dream. The American Dream consists of accomplishing dreams and success in the United States. Society has established an emphasis that a college degree will lead to economic and social happiness, but it is important to take a step back and realize that a college degree is not the only way to achieve success and accomplish the American Dream. This socially constructed norm has considered students as disappointments when they choose to not pursue or realized that a college path is not for them. Even though a college education is believed by all as an essential part to an individual’s success, it is not entirely the path to everyone’s success. There are going to be students who are not going to want or be able to pursue a college education, and for those, instead of labeling as automatic failures, there needs to be promoting of alternative routes. A college education is a privilege not a necessity, it will not determine if a person success or failure.
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. I will do my best to learn each word and its rule of where it goes so I won’t have the same mistakes I had this semester.
Students are the most important part of a classroom, school, and community. Without students there would be no school or growing community. Each child that passes through your classroom is a special gift. Every student is unique in different ways; whether it is a difference in learning, home life, or disabilities/abilities every child has the right to go to school and learn. It is our job as teachers to know and understand what each student needs in order to be successful. The more you learn about where your students come from, the easier your job will become. This includes learning more about their language, culture, values, family, and home environment. This knowledge will help you to better support your students in the classroom
This essay is going to be about the pros and cons of taking notes on laptops or using a piece of paper and a pencil. I will put as an example different studies that have been developed by different universities around the world that proves the importance of write your notes down.
Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. They become emotional burdens for the person to bear.
“Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behaviour. Alternatively, it can be defined as the realisation of oneself as an individual entity.” (Crisp & Turner, 2010). In other words, self awareness is recognising one’s personality which includes strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
The action of voting is such important role in how our country is going to be developed, especially effects on the economy, foreign relationships, society, etc. People are becoming much involved in politics, which is extraordinary because it means that the people are understanding how important their vote is and how it brings change to the issues that truly bother them. Many citizens don’t vote because they are either lazy or too busy, they either have jobs, classes, families, or other responsibilities take care of, but voting is a responsibility that should be attended. Voting could be the thing to prevent awful political leader’s to be put in office who are not focusing on what’s truly important, which is the people, which means that
History is a series of important past events that connect with something. History is what makes people make better decisions. There are many definitions of history and everyone has their own.
Study is necessary to succeed. Study is a good way to develop our mental. Study can increase our experience and knowledge. Study can also train our mind to understand the complexities of the subject chosen and then apply that understanding in practical terms. Through study, we can learn how to discipline ourselves to do something you don’t want to do, which will help us succeed in anything in our life.
The quality of teaching in a classroom makes the biggest learning outcome. Effective teaching leads to the improvement in a student’s achievement. Measuring effective teaching against the progress of a student is a must. It is the belief of all schools that all students must have equalising starting points which means that no matter what background a child comes from they should have the same opportunity for learning.
Language is nothing but a media which expresses feelings, ideas, experiences and even pains properly to others. Cultural background is the origin of language. Language is one of the channels which promote human relations and human affections. Language always unites the people and sometimes language itself diverse the people. Without the language we cannot imagine the existence of human beings on the earth. Language is a system of words that people used to express thoughts, feelings each other. The word ‘language’ derived from Latin “lingua” which means ‘tongue, speech’. The word sometimes used to refer to codes, ciphers and other kind of communication systems. For example computer programming.
