While in the class, I will concentrate on listening to my lecturer. I will also take note and jot down the useful information. If I don’t understand something about it, I will ask for guidance from my lecturer or friends. After the end of the class, I will summarise the information and the note that I had study just now. I will make and keep a regular study schedule. Through the time schedule, I can properly allocate my time. Study is important, but we should also allow ourselves to have some time for rest and relaxation. Next, study at the right place is also an important method to study. The right place is useless without the right surrounding conditions. For me, I will choose the same place to study everyday. For example, library is a good choice to study, it was also a place that with zero distractions. When you are studying, you should keep away from all the distractions, such as music, television, movies, friends, mobile phone and so on. In addition, we must maintain the correct attitude when we were studying. Do not waste time, the time will not wait for you. Don’t be childish, don’t think than I can’t, allocate the time for study and the time for play. I never start to study while I’m stressed. You’ll get frustrated and it isn’t going to help de-stress you. When you are stressed, you should clear your mind for a little while and study when you can focus on
The different types of techniques we learned had helped improve our studying ways to be better and more efficient. One of my studying techniques is through body movement. I learn through body movement to help me retain most of the information I took from my classes. This helps benefits my grade by if a test is coming up, I know the study techniques I need to apply. However, I have to manage time through the day in order for me to study.
The different types of learning styles are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Visual learners prefer to study with the aid of visual stimulus like diagrams, images, drawings, mind-maps. Auditory learners prefer to study by listening, watching videos with sound, and reading out loud. Kinesthetic learners prefer to study by actually doing an activity, writing out notes while in a lecture, doodling while listening, or practical work. These learning styles will benefit you in developing a studying and note-taking routine. When you know your learning style, you can adapt your notes accordingly. For example, visual learners may want to use symbols or color coding while kinesthetic learners may want to use doodles to display information. Note-taking is an effective way of studying and will help students feel more confident when exam time comes around. In addition, simply reading through textbook pages is not effective, you must annotate your text to fully process the information. For example, highlighting the text is a good way to emphasize the main concepts that you will need to grasp for the exams. No one is going to take your exams for you so it is best that you adapt your note taking and reading methods to fit you
When I study, I use several different study strategies. The top three study strategies that I use are flash cards, I recite, rehearse, and write, and also I use chunking. Flash cards help me out a great due to the fact that I am a logical learner. I learn best when I can see facts written down on paper. It really depends on the information that I am trying to take in for the strategy that I use for studying. For instance, when studying vocabulary words and definitions I use flash cards, and other things that I study I will use other techniques. The mood that I am in when I am preparing to study will also determine the strategy that I will use to absorb the information.
Two of the most important study skills are setting goals and taking notes. A student may set a time goal, such as studying a few hours a week; set a general goal, such as trying to study hard and stay on schedule; set a specific performance goal, such as getting at least 80% of the homework problems correct. Another important study skill is taking notes. Students generally make two kinds of mistakes in taking notes. One is to try to write down everything the instructor says, which leads to confusing notes. The other is to copy concepts that they do not understand but hope to learn by memorization. Good notes are compromised of the following: 1) written information summarized in your own words; 2) outline the important concepts; 3) try to associate the lecture notes with the material text; 4) asking yourself questions and making up questions from the notes.

Strategies or ways in which I can improve this type of learning is by studying important information by placing important facts on Q cards and reading the information on it while moving around. NZTC (2015) states that stress is one of the biggest factor that can affect a student’s study this is due to the pressure of the high demand of their time. Being stressed affects you mentally, socially and physically and have many negative side effects a few of these are exhaustion, headaches, sleeplessness and loss of appetite. Stress isn’t good for your health or well-being, this is why it is important to identify any causes of stress and to have strategies that will help manage stress. Going to the doctor for advice, searching the internet and seeking help from student support are some of the strategies that can help you deal with stress. (NZTC, 2015) There are many different steps that you can use to help reduce stress the only problem is finding the right ones for you. One of those steps that I will be using, is to break down your work load into smaller tasks that are manageable and can be prioritized easily. Another of the steps could be to use physical activities to help work off stress, or I could use yoga and breathing exercises to help control stress and helps you to relax. Most importantly, I should talk to someone, whether it be a family member or a friend, I can even talk to the Student Support Team if stress is affecting your
Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. Finding a good place to study will help a bunch, by making sure the spot is free of distractions (Dartmouth). Setting up study groups and using the library will also help when it is time to study (Hansen). Make a plan to study two hours for every hour that is spent in class, but just make sure that 30 minutes breaks are taken often and do not study the same subject after the break (Berkeley and Hansen). Knowing a good way to learn also helps. Some students learn better in the day time or better in the nighttime. Just figure out the best way to learn and then use that time to study (Dartmouth).
College students must find time in their busy schedules to study. In order to keep up they must do daily assignments. Reading every night helps to prepare for the exams. Taking notes in class and out of class are also necessary. Students also have exams at the end of the semester that require hours of studying. Waiting until the last minute and then cramming it all in is often a final resort. Many students who have kept up just go over and recall the information. All students must find time to study in order to pass.
“Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behaviour. Alternatively, it can be defined as the realisation of oneself as an individual entity.” (Crisp & Turner, 2010). The topic of homework has throughout the years been frowned upon, laughed at, and even downplayed leading to the question if homework is beneficial or detrimental to students worldwide. Educators have conducted studies to show that these questions are not as simple to answer, but are quite complex. There are many factors that affect student success. Even though most parents and teachers agree that some homework is essential, problematic questions remain: Does homework actually increase students ' academic achievement? How much homework is necessary?
An important question to address when attempting to identify effective study strategies and their relationship with academic performance is, “What are study skills?” The term “study skills” can be defined as proficiency in identifying, organizing, memorizing, and using information in order to succeed academically (Proctor, Prevatt, Adams, Hurst, & Petscher, 2006). Activities identified as study skills include “time management, setting appropriate goals, selecting an appropriate study environment, employing appropriate note-taking strategies, concentrating, selecting main ideas, self-testing, organization, and managing anxiety,” (Proctor et al., 2006). When studying, college students employ a variety of these study strategies that they believe
