How Important Is Getting a College Education?
School is a process that takes time and a lot of dedication. When we finish high school we have to choose to go to college or not. Most people go to college without knowing what they want to do. The only thing we know is that we want a degree of some sort. Getting a college degree should be essential to everybody because without one you won’t be successful in life.
There is a lot of people perhaps famous that didn’t attend college and they were successful. That is because I think they had to put in a lot of hardwork and dedication. One famous person that did not attend college and was successful was Steve Jobs (Lynn). Steve Jobs was the founder and creator of apple. Perhaps the most successful company in the

People with a college degree tend to make more money than those who didn’t attend college. This is because most of the jobs that have a higher earning require a college degree. People that only get their school diploma don’t make as much money as someone with a college degree. A study done suggest that people who have a college degree are more likely to get hired because they have an education compared to those who don’t. According to the United States Bureau people who achieved the current degrees earned the following median salaries. People with a doctorate degree earn $100,000 or more. With a bachelor’s degree people earn $58,000 and people with an associates earn $42,000 or more(Lucier). A High School diploma is not worth as much as a college degree. A High school diploma means less today because of the shaping of the world. People who only have a high school diploma earn only about $33,000. These numbers also depend on the type of field that you are going into. For example, people that have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or management will earn a little bit more (Lynn). They will earn more because these fields are really important. In my opinion the United States has been transformed
Onink, Troy. “Federal Reserve: Collage Education Worth $830,000 More Than High School Diploma.” Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 5 May 2014. Web. 28 Sept. 2016. The author of this article is supporting the idea that going to college still pays off. Reports show that on average an extra $830,000 is earned for those that choose to get a college degree over those with a high school diploma. Earning a college degree is still paying off, students will still come out ahead in the long run. We do hear of people that skip college and are extremely successful without a degree, but those chances are very slim. Studies show that low wages are associated with people that only obtain a high school education. The value of a college degree is worth way more than
First, college degree graduates have better opportunities in finding a high wage job. “Graduates enjoy increased opportunities for employment at higher rates of pay, providing them with the wherewithal to pay off debt, if they are wise stewards of that debt.” (Smith, 29) People with college degrees have higher chances of being successful in the future because employers would rather employ those who holds a college degree. However, although there are some people who did not attend college find jobs that can help satisfy and support their lives, they cannot compare the earnings of college graduates who holds a degree. My cousin, holding a Bachelor’s degree of Business Management, graduated 5 years ago from College. At first, College education can guarantee the success of her goals, but because of her persistence, she is now a successful businesswoman. She has now a full-time job that can support her family and has already built her own home. With this means, having a college degree helps a person not only achieve their own goals but also being independent. “Realistically, having a college degree will likely mean a com...
College is said to be the gateway to a successful career, and I think no different. One of the main reasons I want a college education is so when I approach an employer they see me and think success. Studies have shown that when you have a college degree you are more likely to make an average 20 thousand more a year. If I was awarded this scholarship money it would completely change things for me; I say this because my family has struggled financially and with this I would be saved from crippling debt in years to come. Another reason a college degree is important to me is because I am striving for financial success so that I do not have to struggle like my parents have. In life money is what makes the world go round, and with a college degree I would be placed in a position where I would be able to achieve a level of financial security that would support myself, and hopefully a
Due to the fact that a majority of people want a good amount of income, they choose to go to college. Majority of people choose to go to college so that they are able to receive a better salary and afford more possessions. Going to college will help you receive a better wage and a better job compared to those that only graduate from high school. College graduates are estimated to earn far more money over the course of a lifetime than compared to high school graduates (“President’s Perspective: Why go to College?”). This means that people who go to college are estimated to earn more money in one life time than that of someone who only graduated from high school. It is not always certain that going to college will get you a better salary but many statistics show that going to college can help. One of these statistics is the starting salaries of college graduates compared to those of a high school graduate. The starting salaries of college graduates are better than that of people who only graduated from high school. Starting salaries of college graduates are also steadily increasing over time. The overall average starting salary for a U.S. class of 2013 college graduates stands at $45,327, an increase of 2.4 percent over the report...
College gives its graduates the greatest ability to achieve a higher paying job. Furthermore, adults who attend college earn higher wages over those who do not. As emphasized in “College Grads Find Big Degree of Debt, Difficulty; American Families Start to Wonder Whether Education Cost Is Worth It” by Patrice Hill, a staff writer for The Washington Times, employees who have a bachelors degree earn an average of 84% more than people with only a high school degree. In accordance with these numbers, the results of a study conducted by the Treasury and Education Departments in 2011 show that college graduates with full time jobs earned 64% more per week than high school graduates. A similar study conducted in 2013 showed that a full-time worker with a bachelors degree earns 79% more than one without a college degree (Hill). There are numerous studies that verify that people who attend college earn higher wages. Furthermore, college graduates earn more desirable jobs. As Justin Draeger, CEO of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, states in his article “College Is Still Worth the Expense”, the U.S. government classifies jobs in zones one through six. Lower work zones pay the least and are full of non-college graduates. The highest zones pay the most and are filled with college graduates. According to the US government, the median pay for job zone thre...
There is a graph that was published in the article “Value of a College Degree” and it does a phenomenal job showing the difference between having a high school degree compared to having some sort of college education. Although it shows that the average person who gets a bachelors in college tends to make about 500 dollars more than someone that only has a high school diploma, it also shows that the unemployment rate for people with a bachelors degree is about half that of someone with only a high school diploma
Not everyone has to have a diploma to prosper. And you would be right; Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Stacey Ferreira are just a few of the many successful people without a college degree. Consider this, the top 1 percent of wage earners in the U.S. earn almost $500,000 per year. The odds of anyone making it to the top are low, even with a college degree, but the odds are better than those with no college education. Of those with college degrees, roughly eight in 1,000 make it into the upper field of income earners. For those without a college degree, the odds drop as low as three out of 1,000. While that may seem unrealistic, on average people with a bachelor’s degree or higher earn about $20,000 more a year than those without a
On average “Americans with a four-year college degree made 98% more an hour on average in 2013 than people without a degree” (Source C). Employers are searching for people with the skills and determination that come along with the earning of a degree and will not pay an individual well if they are not
People are more curious now and speculate if a degree is worth it before they go and spend all the time and money for a college education. In “The Value of a College Degree” Jaison R. Abel and Richard Deitz says “Tuition costs have been rising considerably faster than inflation, student debt is mounting, wages for college graduates have been falling, and recent college graduates have been struggling to find good jobs. These trends might lead one to believe that college is no longer a good investment” (Abel and Deitz, 2014). This is a good counter argument but I can tell you why it isn’t valid. Why is the value of a degree so high even when tuition costs are rising and college graduate wages are getting less and less? The answer is because the wages of high school graduates have also been dropping. Since both wages are dropping wouldn’t it make sense to go with the higher one? I think so because I’d rather get a degree and have a medium paying job than not have a degree and have a low paying
Having a college degree in today’s world is very important because more companies and businesses are requiring that anyone they hire has at least a two-year college degree, which is also known as an Associate 's degree. High school graduates and other people who have had thoughts about going to college should do so because it is getting harder for just a high school graduate to get a job, this is a result of hiring companies and businesses don’t want anyone without a college degree. Having a college degree will open more opportunities for the future. By doing so they further their lives and create a future that they want.
A college education is necessary today in society. Students can focus on their academics and try to get a high score. The cost of education for each student has become more difficult to afford. Thus, many students and teachers wonder if free college tuition must be granted. Free education must be responsible and funded by the U.S. government because it will help students focus on their studies, and encourage them to work harder in school. Even thought many people think that education must be free, it is very important for many reasons such as the economy, quality of education, and value of a college degree.
In Kurtzleben (2014) study “Income Gap Between Young College and High School Grads Widens” he states “among millennials ages 25 to 32 years old earnings for college-degree holders are $17,500 greater than those with just high school diplomas.” As the college graduates net worth is increasing each year, the high school graduates net worth is decreasing each year. Just by having a college degree will boost anyone’s chance of making more money than those without a college degree, because once a employer sees that, one has a college degree over one that just has a high school diploma the employer will automatically think that the one with a college degree has more of the skills such as communicating, writing, thinking skills. That high school graduates do not have. Kurtzleben 2014, also states in the study that high school graduates net worth has fallen from $11,455 in 1984, by 2011 it was less then one-third of that.
Although many individuals can see the importance of quality education, there are some that see college education as simply waste of time, funds, or impossible due to their situation. In this paper I will explain how obtaining a quality education can impact an individual’s life and why it is vital. The necessity of a college education for employment goals, income expectations, personal accomplishment and quality of life will be explored.
In today’s modern world, you have to have an education to be successful. After all, more and more of today's jobs are knowledge-based or require advanced technical skills. And high school won’t fit the bill. You need a college degree to be successful. A college degree has become a necessity in today’s society.
In today’s working world most people will think that a college degree is necessary for success. They are constructed and conditioned that one needs higher education to succeed in life. But a degree is not an essential key factor to attain an achievement. It is not always a requirement to acquire a satisfying work because as long as you are happy and comfortable in what you are doing, then it means you are successful. Moreover, certain people achieved their goal without having to go to college because they are motivated to be fortunate. One of the main reasons why people have to deal with school is not because they want to but they have to. Most high school students are forced by their parents and guidance counselors to go to college because they think that it is the right thing to do.
