To begin this paper and connect it with my previous writing, I thought it appropriate to define rhetoric. Not from any readings or my own opinion, but from a different source. “A language that is intended to influence people and that may not be honest or reasonable” (Merriam-Webster 's Learner 's Dictionary). Per this definition, rhetoric is any information that is shared and meant to affect the reader or audience’s way of thinking. The reason for this was that I found my writing to be very serious and sentimental. It has been proven multiple times that being acquainted with music has many social, educational, health, and cognitive benefits. “A Stanford study shoes that music engages areas of the brain which are involved with paying attention, making predictions and updating events in our memory.”(Sharon Bryant) In this quote, the National Association of Music Merchants display one of the many effects that tune’s have on people. Personally, I enjoy music a lot and I find it to be the primal way from which people share their emotions. When I listen to music, I can sense the artist’s point of view and understand what they are saying and feeling. When writing the lyrics to a song, it is important to consider the attention span of the listener, which is generally very short. Most songs nowadays last between two and four minutes and anything that exceeds this will most likely not see the light of day. That is why the structure of most songs is short and mostly uniform; verse, chorus, bridge, repeat. This cycle is a template that became the foundation of all popular songs. A verse is a group of sentences from which most of the expressing and sharing occurs. However, the key lies in the bridge and chorus to be what people call “catchy”, something they can keep up with and will stick with them. Additionally, even though it can be limiting, it is critical for the lyrics to follow a rhyming scheme, and to say things that your audience can relate to. For this reason, refraining from using words that were too formal to be found in a song, yet maintain some level of professionalism is a constraint in my process which can cause it
