Listening to yourself is basically the important aspect in life. Negative listening like, “I never do anything right”, or “I think too slowly to keep up” may affect our self-awareness in life.
Listening is where one’s ability to understand and respond effectively in order to create an oral communication. Based on Mark Twain and he quoted, “If we were supposed to talk more than we listen, we would have two mouths and one ear.” In this case, listening is defined as extracting information from anyone who speaks, other people or most probably ourselves while we remain nonjudgmental or emphatic. Listening also acknowledges the person who talks in a way that invites the communication to continue.

Also, this thought process of this cycle had a positive effect on her performance in which had gotten her to get her work done on time. For example, one of the engineers asked her to complete a task that she cannot complete on time if she is to finalize her task. Through her internal process, she was able to hear a voice in her head stating that it is important to say no in order not to overcommitting herself and explain when she can realistically finish her job. In this case, her behavior affects her by saying to herself and I quote,” I am working on a high-priority project now” and “I am not able to get both time and your project completed in the time you want”. And because of her behavior, she felt confidence in her inner self, improved her self-esteem, release of tension and also sense of power. As you can see, listening to yourself is an important element of the listening process that people tend to neglect. Furthermore, a person such as Margie does not realize the power they have over their own behavior. Such as this cycle may help us to be in control of ourselves more often in the situation in which was formerly resulted in being under Going Nowhere cycle. Between these two cycles, Going Nowhere cycle leads us to self-defeating behavior. We tend to continue to be stuck in our behaviors in which have resulted in failure, negative feelings, and also our not-working life. In addition, Going Somewhere cycle helps us to be a successful person and tends to have a sense of self-worth as well as self-confidence. This cycle also helps us to know that we are in charge of what we do and who we really
Listening is a very popular topic and extensively discussed in today’s society. Listening is used to understand information, interpret messages and learn more about objects and other people. Michel Chion, author of “The Three Listening Modes”, discussed three main types of listening; these include causal, semantic and reduced listening. Along with these, there are also various other forms of listening that display different ways people hear and choose to interpret what they hear. The three modes of listening characterize how people listen and what they do with the information they gather and learn.
Interpersonal listening: is the power to interpret things and to make healthy communication. A person that listens properly can transfer the accurate message to the specified person or to any receiver. If we listen properly we can effectively accomplish our assigned activities. Listening can prevent unnecessary mistakes. That is why people say, before you talk, think twice. If we listen to our family we can avoid some of the problems easily. If we listen to our friends, we canform good relationships. If we can listen to our groups, teams, and communities, we will be good leaders. When someone listens carefully until the speaker finishes, it helps the listener to get the whole message in order to answer any needed questions. There should be no worries of what to say after the speaker finished his /her speech. Sometimes being quiet is preferable. A good listener will make a good judgment.Listening skills also interoperates with verbal and non verbal communications which helps to receive messages sent by other people.
Listening is how we interpret both the verbal and non-verbal messages sent by others. Active listening shows customers and employees that there is genuine concern for them and this can provide an opportunity for resolution of a problem and ease a negative situation. Here's an example of actively listening. A customer comes up to you and you can clearly see that he is upset, he mentions to you that he has been to two other stores looking for a particular product and goes into detail. (At this point you may want to nod your head to signify that you are following him). He called your store to confirm this product was in stock. He explained to the person over the phone that he was driving 30 minutes out his
The act of listening is patiently waiting for the other to tell their story or their thoughts, while not interrupting. You must also be thinking of trying to understand the story, not thinking of how to respond. In the book Animal Farm, Napoleon is a leader that doesn’t listen, he doesn’t care about what others have to say, which is why he’s a terrible leader. Counselors are good examples of leaders, and are experts at listening. Listening can and will change the way people act and treat each
Listening Skills are a deliberate action. Listening is not just what we hear, but what we see and understand in the non-verbal messages being sent.
Listening constitutes several processes of receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating and responding to communications. The act of listening enables learning, acquiring of information, forming and maintaining relationship, as well as influencing and posing effect on the attitude and behaviors of others. Styles of listening can be divided into four contrastive pairs; empathic-objective listening, nonjudgmental-critical listening, surface-depth listening and active-passive listening.
Listening skill is one of the vital skill during the process of constructing and building meaning, responding to spoken or non-verbal messages. A good listening skill contributes a big aspect in the field of developing a language that consists of speaking and reading. On the other hand, a successful listening varies from different types of advantages taken by the learners of the language during the process of listening being carried on. The learning surrounding plays a crucial role in developing types of listening such as conversations, simple instructions, basic interviews and also discussion in the sub field of spoken discourse. Moreover, spoken discourse is used in daily life through technology resources like internet. The learning surrounding
Listening and understanding what others communicate to us is the communication process needed for interpersonal effectiveness. If you listen well, you will understand the meaning of the message. If you are unfocused, you will not know most of what the other person is saying. However, there is a range of listening skills that can be learned to develop the communication effectiveness. Firstly, encouraging listening points to the listener that is willing to do more than listen. Usually it provides feedback that supports speakers to say more. Fur...

We tend to try to understand our self and how we are as a person then we try to act and behave accordingly as to whom we are and this concept is called self-concept. This is our idea of which we are our understanding of our self (Mcleod, 2008). This composes of our belief about our self, our attitude and behavior and our opinion as how we are supposed to behave and how we really behave (Feenstra, 2011). As for me, my self-concept is that I am a worrier and I said this because I always end up telling other people about my worries so I share it with them. This is very different with my friend who always keeps her taught to herself and stays aloof all the time. Then aside from our self-concept, we also have what we call our self-schema. Self-schema is the way we look at ourselves hence it can be associated with what we liked to do. My self-schema is that I am a gardener because I love working on my garden. Every time I see something about gardening, I can easily associate myself with it because of my self-schema hence my behavior shows how I perceive myself. Self-schema is the same as self-awareness hence I am aware of myself either publicly or privately. Private self-awareness ar...
Listening is a big part of communicating well with others. Take time to carefully listen to what others are saying, and also take time to observe their nonverbal communications. A good listener does not interrupt the person while their talking. they make eye contact with the person speaking. they provide the speaker with their full attention, avoid unnecessary distractions, and try to understand the other persons point of view by being empathetic.
Self-awareness is not about reading a book or attending a course. Self-awareness is a journey, and it takes practice. It’s like a muscle that becomes more effective with time and effort. It gives us mental strength as opposed to physical strength. We are constantly changing and adapting to the multiple external forces around us and to our individual experiences. The more we learn to be aware of, and understand, our reactions, thoughts, and emotions, while also keeping in mind our values, the more we can become the best we can be and the more successful we can become.
Listening- “Listening can be described as the ability understand and respond effectively to oral communication. People spend more hours listening each day than writing, reading and speaking combined”(Interpersonal Communication, Farmer’s Market Management Skills, n.d.). Individuals do not listen unless they are concentrating or trying to understand what is being said or heard in the process.
Seeing the little details about yourself “I’m tall, I have hazel eyes, red hair, light complexion.” A lot of people hate how they look, due to social media and how you’re “expected” to look in today’s day in age. The people you hangout with shape how you see yourself, “you are who you hangout with.”, how they talk to you and tell you little details about yourself. What makes you mad, what gets under your skin, little noises that grind your gears, those are your personal traits. Figuring out who you are, and where you came from, “I’m from a universe.”, thinking abstract about life.("Practice Wisdom. May 2016.)
“Who are you?” I ask myself continuously as I enter a blank state of mind. It’s funny how we, as humans, bring ourselves to face life’s challenges everyday and yet, when we are made to consider who we really are as individuals, it becomes a seemingly dreadful task. Discovering who you really are is comparable to facing reality, an honest reflective process whereby we admit and accept our personal flaws and strengths. Most importantly, it is about being adequately self-aware to point out the right characteristics pertaining to you. I feel that all humans are equipped with self-awareness, however, the ultimate line distinguishing the self-aware and not quite self-aware would be our ability to make good use of this ‘skill’ that has been with us throughout our lives.
