Management is needed to support and coordinate the services that are provided by an organization and the healthcare system is no different. Healthcare management involves the provision of leadership and direction to organizations that deliver professional health services. Health care organizations are complex and management is required to provide leadership, supervision and coordination within the organization (Griffith, 2000). No matter the discipline, organization or system, variations would develop and may or may not cause a dispute between or within individuals. Within the healthcare system, conflict can be defined as, but not limited to, a correlation between a situation or event, and a group, organization or individual in which disagreement influence all parties involved within healthcare settings. Conflict management, however, is the act of maximizing benefits and minimizing risks that can occur as a result of conflict (Todorova, & Mihaylova-Alakidi, 2010). Conflict is inevitable, whether it is in healthcare or outside of healthcare. Conflict should not define a situation or moment in time but what can, is the way it is resolved or managed. In managing conflict one must be able to identify a resolution or negotiation style that best suits each conflict (Haraway & Haraway, 2005). General knowledge about these guidelines would establish what is acceptable and what is not or even what is good behaviour and what is not.
