Have you ever wondered as a teenager how you were going to get all your homework done and get a decent amount of sleep? Have you wondered why you can’t go to school and then come home and be a kid? If you are saying yes to those questions, then you will enjoy reading about the article I am going to share with you. It was a survey poll done in 2006 regarding sleep and homework. I will explain to you what homework does to the student and how it affects their health. I will also explain why teachers feel homework is crucial to the student and their success. Hopefully, at the end of my information I share with you, you will be able to answer those questions.

Instead, they should be able to go outside and be free to do what they want. Kids go to school and sleep in class because they stay up to 9 or 10 o'clock each night working on homework. Then the kids get more homework over weekends, therefore kids don't get enough sleep all 365 days out of the year. It's the thing that interferes with a student's daily schedule and plans (Foundation). Kids sometimes go home instead of going to sport practice, due to homework, but then they get kicked off the team. Teachers should limit the about of homework given each night. We shouldn’t have any homework. We work all day on the lessons in school, so why do we have to do more work when we get home? It is also hard to do homework without teacher support. Many times, there’s no payoff to do homework. We have worked hard all day on our class assignments and then our homework is usually a repeat of all the work we did at school that day. Does that make sense to do it all over again? If we quit giving kids homework, then kids will not be up till 10 or 11 o’clock working on homework, therefore, they will have plenty of sleep and won’t sleep during classes and the work will get done.
In a study performed in 2012, students that opted for more sleep were having more trouble understanding the material taught in class and were more likely to struggle on assignments and test (Fuligni, Huynh and Gillen-O'neel). Therefore, teachers argue that
Adolescents all around the world stay up playing video games, playing on their phones, playing around with their friends, or cramming in an assignment that’s due the next day due to their procrastination. With all these contributing factors, sleep is the last thing on any teen’s mind. School work has a big effect on teens while trying to do it and do it right and get a good night’s sleep every night. The more and more sleep you get each night, the easier it is to get better grades in school, understand things better, and progress easier and faster. Lack of sleep can cause teens to not care thus making their effort poor on their work while their drive and motivation to learn is
Khristina Janer, a mother from Illinois, says, “I don’t feel like a parent. I feel like a drill sergeant!” when making her kids finish their homework after an extended period of time (Wallace). Many studies show the effectiveness of homework and all of the benefits it can do for us; the problem is: teachers are making kids do too much homework when they get home from school. The teachers don’t take in the environmental factors that could be harming any student 's ability to get a task done. Teachers automatically believe that kids are irresponsible or unmotivated when they don’t succeed in finishing their homework. When kids are given this much, or this difficult of, homework, sleep is being sacrificed. Even when they are doing all of their
“The typical student, even in high school does not spend more than an hour per day on homework” (Loveless NP). However, there is an ongoing dispute between critics on whether a lot of homework has more negative effects than positive effects, and vice versa. Homework is the greatest tool for student success, whether they realize it or not, homework is the key to success, it may not be to fun, but it has many positive effects. Homework improves academic success, it develops non-school skills, and it helps involve parents.
Homework is for suckers. Homework causes stress for students as well as for parents. Homework is extremely demanding and many students are spending far too many hours after school to complete their homework assignments. Although, some students may be able to whiz right through their homework, other students crawl along struggling at a snail’s pace. Consequently, family time is put on the back burner due to the time constraints of homework. Additionally, any extracurricular activities are also put on hold. Homework is nothing more than a scapegoat for teachers so that they can pawn off their due responsibilities on parents and students. Homework should be banned for students Kindergarten through 8th grade because the negative effects do not out weight the benefits that come from homework.
87 percent of high school teens are not getting the sleep that is recommended for a healthy lifestyle. Because, school starts at an early time, the time for sleep is compressed to a point where their minds and bodies are not ready to be awake (Richter, Ruthann). Due to having cell phones teens are staying up later, after doing homework to check their social media account, talk to family members, and to catch up on the new they missed out on in school or while doing homework. With the academic stress that is put on to teenagers in this modern world that has so much to offer and not enough time to seek it all, many come home from various practices and jobs just to do four to five hours of homework from advanced classes or even extra work from level classes that are required in all schools. The school should reduce the amount of homework given every night
I meadow cruickshank think that we have way too much homework because every single teachers gives use a lot of it . And because i think that we need to get more sleep so are brains would be ready for the whole day . And we also don't need that much homework so we can go outside for so time after school and so we can watch movies with our family because the past some kids go at they don't get to watch movies with them and it is sad . Because we need to be with are family and be happy . homework is way to hard for kids .And becasue we need to have family time with our partens and other family members .And so we can hange out with are freinds after school in stead of doing homework i think we should we able to do it . And so we can aslo get are books done and other things like that .
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
Children go to school for seven hours a day, when teachers make them do homework it causes them to get stressed. Furthermore if children understand what they learned at school why do they need to repeat it at home? If children are struggling on a certain subject, teachers should be able to help them directly, not with homework because giving them homework on something they don't know anything about is counterproductive. Instead private tutoring could be something schools provide for failing students and not homework.
Students are at school for 6 hours a day and teachers still give us homework. When teachers give us homework they are taking away more of our free time. There have been times when I have been working on homework from 3:00 in the afternoon to midnight. Instead of spending my afternoon on so much homework, I could have been outside or spending time with my family. Homework keeps students from spending time with their families, causes unneeded stress on their lives and causes health problems.
Dr. Michael Nagel, an associate professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast, says homework has no scientific benefit and that it could even be bad for a student’s brain. “The adult brain does not fully mature until the third decade of life (a person’s thirty’s) and too much stimulation could cause unnecessary stress on a student.” An analysis conducted by Pearson showed that the number of hours spent on homework was between ten and sixty-five hours a week, with females scoring higher on the hours of homework, stres...
Homework; now that’s a problem. As an individual, involved with the educational system, I stand for no homework. Children and teens across the country and around the world are struggling with sleep deprivation coming from too much assigned homework. This overload of homework, effects family, emotional, and individual performance, even though students across the country are involved with school extracurricular activities, and/or outside clubs, sports, or activities. The amount of homework assigned to students affect at home relationships, especially if assigned over a holiday or break. Homework, a topic discussed since invention, should be changed and not allowed.
Who knew that the work your teachers are giving you, could lead to the end of our lives? Anyways, the second fact i’m going to tell you about is the stress, lots of stress! Children should not be given homework is that they need time to relax and take their minds off work. The pressure of having to complete homework every night is quite daunting for most children and they need time to refresh their minds and bodies. In April, Denise Pope, a researcher at Stanford University, found that too much homework can negatively affect kids by increasing stress and sleep deprivation and generally leaving less time for family, friends, and activities. According to Pope, homework should not be simply assigned as a routine practice. Homework has you taking hours out of your kids day and by the time they are done, it's dark out and they are so stressed they want to go to bed. See what I mean by a lot of stress!? The last thing is exercise, because we all know that we need exercise. Every night that I have
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
Have you ever wondered why teachers give homework? Here’s why they do! Teachers give homework because it helps us learn more. They give homework to help our brains grow and develop. Children need homework because it helps them stay focused even when they’re not at school. Homework sets children up to manage their time and plan out study schedules. Most people think teachers shouldn’t give students homework because the students have to work all day at school. And the students are already tired from doing work at school. And not only do students have to keep up with classwork but then they have to keep up with homework to and they also have to able to keep up with both classwork and their homework. And getting the habit of doing work and then
The United States of America has many states that have their students take homework home to work on, not a single school doesn’t send kids to school without homework. They are two sides on to why students should have homework and even more and the side that thinks that students should have none. I personally think that we shouldn’t have homework at all. One of the main reason to why I think that school should hold back on homework is because of sports. Why I think that it has an influence on the people that do sports is because it take time from them to rest up and get heeled properly.
