Argumentative Essay: I Stand For No Homework

Homework; now that’s a problem. As an individual, involved with the educational system, I stand for no homework. Children and teens across the country and around the world are struggling with sleep deprivation coming from too much assigned homework. This overload of homework, effects family, emotional, and individual performance, even though students across the country are involved with school extracurricular activities, and/or outside clubs, sports, or activities. The amount of homework assigned to students affect at home relationships, especially if assigned over a holiday or break. Homework, a topic discussed since invention, should be changed and not allowed.
The amounts of homework given to students are not only affecting students, but also parents. The book, The Case Against Homework, has explored why this is. They wrote that, “According to a 2001 review of more than 120 studies of homework and its effects by Professor Harris Cooper of Duke University, the country’s leading homework researcher, and his updated 2006 review of an additional sixty studies, there is very little correlation between the amount of …show more content…

My English class took a survey on how often homework affects their sleep routine and how often it stresses them. The survey showed that out of 149 students, 23.5% of students stress at least once a week, 30.9% said they stress about homework 2-3 times a week, 42.3% stress 4-5 times a week, and only 3.4% claimed they never stress. To emphasize on this, students are overly stressed about homework. Yes, students understand that homework should help their learning curves, but it shouldn’t affect stress levels, sleep routines, and extracurricular activities. So, as some may think, students should have homework to help improve their learning, but is is really worth it for the amount of stress put on
