On a bright sunny morning Hazel was up early cooking breakfast for her daughter Willow. Today was a big day for both of them, as Willow was going to her first day of daycare. Hazel was unsure of how she felt about taking Willow to daycare. Willow on the other hand, was filled with excitement. She was talking all morning about how she would meet new friends, learn her letters, and numbers, and draw pictures. Not only that, she also couldn’t wait to play on the new playground equipment. Although parents want their kids to stay home with them, its is more beneficial to have them attend a daycare. Daycare reduces boredom since the children have other children there to interact with. At home a child may sit by themselves watching television or playing video games day after day. If they have nothing else to do they may eat just to pass their time. At daycare they can enjoy adventures by taking field trips. The best part about day cares are children get to visit nursing homes, pumpkin patches, and the community pool. At the nursing home, the children will get to play games and do many different activities with the elderly residents. Hayrides, corn mazes, and pumpkin picking are just some of the many things a child in daycare gets to do with their friends at the pumpkin patch. Jumping in the water, learning to stay afloat, and going under the water are just some ways the pool can help them conquer their fears. Another thing they do at daycare is the staff worker will take them on little walks around town. They get to interact with different environments and to see and learn new things in their home town. Willow began by saying how much she loved it and could not wait to go back the next day. She told her mom about her new friends Lilly, Riley and Anna. Excitedly she said “Mom, you will never believe it, but I ate ants on a log for a snack!” “But really, it was just celery with peanut butter and raisins on it, and it was awesome!” She was thrilled when asked what she all learned, she told Hazel she could count her numbers, write her name and how to introduce herself to new people. Willow’s eyes lit up when she told her mom that she went down the really tall slide two times. Then Willow said, “I love you, Mommy, for bring me here.” Hazel then realized how much Willow enjoyed day care and thought it was a fabulous idea to send her there. Although parents want their children to stay home, it is important to have them attend a daycare.
Chapter seven of “Making the “Terrible” Twos Terrific” by John Rosemond is about sending your children to daycare. Rosemond believes that if possible one of the parent stays at home for the first three years of life. “The first three years of life constitute the single most critical, precedent-setting developmental period” (Rosemond 207). He also talks about putting your child in a three day or half day daycare. From birth to age two children rely completely on their parents. At age three is the transition time when children learn they are not the center of the universe and this should be taught by the parents.
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. The Child Development Center of College of San Mateo provides early care and educational programs for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. Children are divided into classrooms with a “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two or three “associate” teachers. Klara attended Classroom, “A,” a stimulating and well-resourced classroom. Klara was observed for two hours on Monday from 9 am to 11 am and for two hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. Additionally, a total of eighteen children were in attendance during the observed days.
These are larger facilities that care for infants through school age children. They offer a variety of program options. Some childcare centers even provide transportation to and from school. Most have early learning programs.
An individual as a caregiver has more one-on-one time with a child as long as their group of children is small. A child could form a stronger bond with a smaller setting and possibly have less separation anxieties to deal with. Some parents feel the time spent with one person could benefit their child more than being with multiple caretakers. The cost of a caregiver usually is less than the traditional day care centers because there is less overhead, but there are not as many opportunities available to them. If a caregiver becomes ill or needs to take a vacation, it is the parent’s responsibility to have a back up to take care of the child during that time. A child with many health problems would possibly not be exposed to as many germs at an individual’s house because they would not come into contact with as many other children on a daily basis. On the other hand, individuals may be more lenient and allow children that are ill to attend. This could be a problem if the parents do not have family or friends that would or could care for the child during this time. A parent may have to miss work entirely to take care of the child, and with the loss of income could put the whole family at risk. A child may have problems at a babysitter such as discipline, allergies, other children, but unless they mention it to the parents they will not...

Parents are always questioning whether they would like to have any more children someday. One of the aspects parents think about in this decision is child care. Child care can be pricey and the quality of the child care is also something to think about as well. Parents want their child to grow up and become very successful in life. Choosing a daycare from infant on, is part of the process to becoming successful as they grow. For one to add on to the family they need to think about the quality of child care, the price of child care, and attention of care: how their child will be raised. But, there is hope: a loving, supportive environment that encourages children to grow into themselves. Preschool. Government programs are in place to help low-income families offset the costs, and national agencies provide multidimensional support for preschoolers and their families. Seven hours in a classroom doesn’t fix the problems at home. Rather, these programs are designed to help low-income families through a multi-faceted approach, attacking several issues in one mighty blow (Olson, Ceballo, and Park 427). These programs offer a variety of resources, including parenting classes, stress management courses, family counseling, and nutrition education. Through these programs, the entire community is assuming responsibility for taking care of its children. After all, it takes a village to raise a child.

It is common knowledge that a parent is considered the most efficient caregiver for their children. It’s also known that with daily responsibilities of caring for a child financially, parents partake in full-time and/or part-time employment. While needing to do so, many children attend daycare/preschool facilities. Granted, it is the parent’s responsibility to cautiously select where they decide to take their children. This is because parents know that while they are away for numerous hours of the day, their children are in the hands of another care provider and that their care would have an enormous impact on their children. At a young age, a child’s social and cognitive skills are continuing to take shape and the amount of time spent in these facilities has a resilient impact on a child’s development. With proper and superior care no matter the time spent, such positive effects on a child’s development should endure in a child’s cognitive and social development. In other words, there is a great benefit of childcare/daycare attendance on a child’s development.
The idea of taking children to day-care is unacceptable by a good number of people. They probably think this way, because daycare involves putting someone else in the ‘parenting’ picture; as far as spending time with, and caring for the child is concerned. However, this is not exactly negative. This is because day-care provides care for little children while their parents attend to other matters, such as attending school or working to earn a living. It is important for those people who discourage day care to realize that not all parents can afford to stay at home with their children all day, as much as they would like to. This is because they need to attend to other pressing matters. In the end, the child benefits from this as the living earned by the parent during this time, or even education earned during this time, will benefit the child in future.
