High school is a tough transitioning time for adolescents worldwide. Middle schoolers have mixed feelings on what to expect in highschool and usually feel nervous about what others will think of them. Commandments or what we in modern day call rules, guide us on how we can live happily and respectfully. In biblical times, commandments were used as a way the people can know what God thinks is unacceptable behavior. Rules today are similar but varied because the rules can also be considered guidelines in which we follow to lead us in the right direction. Since many teens struggle on what are the right ways to act in highschool, so I have created commandments in which I think are essential for a positive high school experience. The first commandment …show more content…
I chose is “Thou shalt love thy self”, because I believe it is an important rule for wherever you are at. It is important to love yourself because high school is a time where you are experiencing many changes and some of them are scary but manageable. Your body is going through numerous uncontrollable changes. If you love yourself, the stress society puts on your body will slowly dissolve. Loving yourself includes loving others and complimenting them as well. To love yourself does not mean to be conceited and say your looks are superior to any one else’s, but it is to appreciate what God gave you and not destroy it. The second commandment is “Remember to wash, Keep it clean”. Hygiene is ignored as a topic of discussion when in reality people are hardly informed about it. You should find products that agree with you, as well as help you smell better. Being clean also extends to being organized and making sure your mind is clean. Living in clutter can pollute your mind and cause you to forget things and also lose your items. Some people even believe that cleanliness is associated with how close your relationship with God is. Cleanliness is important because it frees you of clutter and makes you smell pleasant, so people will not avoid you. “Thou shalt keep the negativity away” is the third commandment. Negativity can deeply affect the brain and even the body from the stress it brings. Negative vibes, intentions, words, people, and spirits are always roaming in the world so it is good to distance yourself from this. Negativity can control your life if you allow it to, but there are ways you can prevent negativity from doing this. You can pray to God for help, you can buy oils, or you can do a cleanse. Keeping away from negativity is important because it can consume your life and steer you away from goals you’ve set. Negativity is definitely something to steer away from due to its heavy pollutants it contains(in the forms of things). The fourth commandment is “Thou shalt not wait until the last minute” Waiting until the last minute is a very unhealthy habit.
If you wait until the last minute your work will be done hastily and end up in a poor quality. When you take time to plan out your assignments and put thought into it, teachers will notice your improved work quality. Just the stress alone of rushed assignments create unwanted pressure. Taking time and putting in effort into your assignments raises your grade and shows your true potential. It is important to put forth your best effort into every assignment you complete and not wait until the last minute because it takes off unnecessary …show more content…
stress. “Thou shalt mind thy business” is the fifth commandment. Minding your own business may be a harsh way to say for you to not be nosy, but it actually is an important social skill. Being nosy is intrusive and disrespectful because you are not taking into consideration other’s right to privacy. Invasiveness shows lack of parental guidance, which makes you and your parents look as if you’re lacking education and morals. It is important to mind your own business, just as a common courtesy to others. You honestly do not need to know every aspect of what happens in a person’s life especially if it does not involve you. The sixth commandment is “Thou shalt protect thy image” Your image is a depiction of how people first view you as a person based on the way that you project yourself.
If you are loud and obnoxious people will tend to be concerned about whether or not they can invite you places because of how you act. Your image is not only limited to the way you act but can extend to the way you dress. If you wear skimpy clothing or dirty clothes, people may think you are sloppy because you do not care about your appearance enough to wear cleaned, ironed clothes. I am not suggesting that you should alter the way you project yourself to please others but to just act in a respectable manner. It is important to conduct yourself in a manner that is appropriate for your surroundings because you are judged on first
appearances. The seventh commandment is “Thou shalt not bully others” Bullying is someone superior taking advantage of another by intimidating them. Bullying is discussed everywhere and not tolerated in many schools. This should be easy to understand why it is not tolerated being that you are abusing another person to make yourself feel higher. Putting someone else’s self esteem lower shows lack of character. Bullying is commonly discussed and everyone has a basic knowledge of it, but there are many forms of bullying. Abuse in a harassing manner is an example of bullying. Bullying can occur throughout life and it is important to be aware of yourself and others to make sure you are not bullying or watching bullying happen. Preventing bullying is important because it saves an innocent person of constant abuse. The eighth commandment is “Honour thy parents”. This may seem like an over exaggerated statement, but in modern times it seems as though respect for people older than you has been slowly dying out. You are supposed to cherish the old because they are more experienced and can offer an unlimited amount of knowledge. Honoring your parents does not mean that you have to praise everything they do. You definitely have the right to disagree with your parents but do not disrespect them. For example, if your parents ask you to remain in the house instead of going out, you should respect that by not sneaking out. You have the right to express your feelings and can be angry with your parents but it should not extend to the point where you are disrespecting your parents. Honoring your parents means to respect their opinions and to also act in a manner in which they ask you to, it also means you show the same respect to people who are older than you. “Thou shall save money” is the ninth commandment. Saving money is a great skill which allows you to set goals. When you save money you are practicing how to be an adult (a terrible thing). You can save your money and use them on things you would like or even spend it on others. Saving money for spending gives you a little more independency because you are not relying on your parents to give you money all of the time. “Thou shall enjoy thyself” is the tenth commandment. This is self explanatory for the most part. Enjoying yourself means to be happy with yourself and all that is going on in your life. Enjoy that you have homework because you are receiving education that others beg to have. Enjoy that you are alive, breathing and well. Enjoy the presence of others. To enjoy yourself is important because you learn to love yourself and life you’re living it also shows your thankfulness to God. Some might become threatened when they hear of commandments. Fear of committing to complying with rules makes some people avoid laws. During high school, numerous rules are piled onto you and you are expected to maintain good grades and a social life while making sure your are contempt in mind and body. Commandments were given to the Israelites by God in order for them to gain an insight on God’s perspective of how he wanted them to act. Commandments of high school are not official rules but just an idea of what I believe every high school student should be educated about and practice. Commandments sum up how God expects us to act just as my commandments sum up how high school students should act.
Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
Using your time wisely is important in many ways to use your time wisely by paying action and be quiet and watch the teachers, keep your hands to yourself, stay in your seat and have your work in front of you. Don't get side tracked and you'll miss an answer or question then you'll start horse play because you didn't pay attention and gave up, but when you get in trouble you'll get and an attitude towards the teacher and you'll get in more
Completion of assignments increases your grade in school and your future work performance, which are small accomplishments to an even bigger accomplishment (goal). At the point when an individual is taught to finish and turn in all assignments on the right due date they create great work qualities. For instance: an individual who doesn't finish all assignments will inevitably recognize how it will influence their evaluation, in a workplace the person who can't finish assignment will in the long run get terminated. Completion of assignments influences completion of future work duties by allowing individuals to work to their full potential and get direct feedback on what was wrong or right. Employers look for employees to correctly complete all assignments that are given, to show their dependability and how one works positively under
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
In today’s society of “political correctness”, many issues arise between the interests of the many interests groups of the nation. One of the issues that continue to generate heated debate is the displaying of the Ten Commandments and other religious documents on government property. The issue of the Ten Commandments is one of the most heated discussions on the local and national stage today. Although there are many groups and individuals opposed to the displaying of the Ten Commandments and other religious objects as a violation against the separation of church and state and against the 1st amendment which is freedom of religion, the question asked by many others is; should religious objects including the Ten Commandments be permissible on government property? The answer is, yes, it should be. By law, according to history, and first amendment rights not being violated, the simple legality of the issue is without a doubt, a non-debatable issue.
While I was doing this assignment, I did it two days before it was due. Therefore, I have to rush to get it done. Since English language is not my first language, rushing to finish the assignment did not help me with the grade and it increasing my chances of make a lot of mistakes. If I start this assignment week ahead of the due date, I would have more time to complete it and I would time to go back to check for my mistakes. When I rushing to do something, I try to find the easiest way to complete the task and not double check my work. While I was doing the assignment I did not have a complete understanding of assignment and the sources for the assignment. If I ask for help, I would have a better understanding of the assignment and how to approach it. If I done all this, I would not be in this position and people would have doubt about my integrity.
It is important to create a harmonic atmosphere build of respect starting with every single action that shows a sign of respect. Even though it is underestimated, swearing is one of the biggest sign of disrespect that can be expressed in the classroom, for words hurt more than actions. Moreover, an Advance Fashion Marketing senior class from Bremerton High School in Washington started a campaign to stop swearing because they believed that it is not professional or respectful to swear. The primary objective of the campaign called, “Dare Not to Swear” was to improve and promote respect in their high school first to serve as a role model for middle school.
Next, there are time constraints that come into play when a student is assigned enormous amounts of homework. Some who do unrestricted homework assigning may find this difficult to believe, but us humble students do have lives. Many of us have part time jobs, extra-circular activities, volunteering, and general work to attend to.
There are a variety of definitions of time management. Past researchers and authors, refer to the definition that time management involves the process of determining needs, setting goals to achieve and prioritizing and planning tasks. (Lakein, Alan., 1973). Being effective in time management is key in order to be successful in college and beyond. In college it can determine your grade on a test or paper. When you are not conscious of time and lose track of it, it can hurt you in the long run. It is important to have a schedule or calendar on tasks you need to finish. You do not want to wait until the last minute to begin doing an assignment. Research shows that students who procrastinated on assignments did poorly on the assignment than those who did not
Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
Many schools have developed and brought the honor code to there school throughout the years. However, students today proceed to cheat and plagiarize on many assignments. Therefore, the honors code is a useless code to try and control students.
Students should be graded on the actual quality of the work they produce, not on their punctuality. The ability to turn in an assignment on time has nothing to do with learning concepts and meeting standards, which is ultimately what the grade should be an accurate and meaningful reflection of. Grades are supposed to show the student's achievement in the given subject matter, and should indicate what they know and what they have learned. Education author, speaker, and advisor Tom Schimmer said:
You know, it is really strange how quickly time passes, after spending my whole childhood wishing I was an adult, now here we are and it's a little hard to grasp. It feels like just yesterday I was standing here in the same position at eighth grade graduation. Ahh, middle school, such a joyous time for all of us, free of maturity and not a care in the world. The biggest decisions I ever had to make then was deciding which group to stand with at passing time and choosing which shirt from my extensive collection of Stussy and No Feat apparel to wear. We were all naive to the danger that lurked just around the corner. We were unaware that the carefree world we lived in was about to come crashing to the ground in a blazing inferno of real school work and responsibility ... otherwise known as high school.
The last and most important rule is to be polite. My favorite example is reciting the Golden Rule to them. The Golden Rule is to “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. Inside of the classroom, each student is responsible for respecting themselves, their peers, and the teacher. All body parts, such as hands and feet, should be kept to themselves. Respect also goes as far as respecting school property. That means students should not damage or vandalize the items that the school provided in the
Sometimes a student need to take six to seven classes per semester and the professors can assign new assignments for each classes. The students need to submit all the assignments before the deadline and as the deadline closes in pressure keeps building up. It can monumental task to complete two to three assignments a day or sometimes up to seven per week. Thus, the students will not have enough time to concentrate on the assignments as they also need to do other things such as attending classes, getting involved in co-curricular activities and part time job. Thus, the students will be stressed because of lack of time to finish the assignments. Some assignments are group assignments that need to be done with other students. If every group member cannot give their full commitment to do the assignments together, the students will be stressed too. So a lot of assignments can be one of the causes of stress among university students. And then there are exams and midterms which can be very stressful on it 's own as the results of those exams will reflect on a student 's future career
