A Love of Learning, a Love of Teaching Heidi Sheridan went to college to see how much she could learn about a subject, which is why she ended up going to graduate school and getting another degree later. She wanted to go to college and learn, unlike many students today who go just to get a job. Sheridan is the interim dean at Ocean County College. She was a professor there and still teaches a class or two with her new position. She was originally from California, where she was born, raised, and educated. She moved to New Jersey in 2006 after meeting her husband. She has always had a passion for learning and a natural ability to teach, which has led her to where she is now and what she has accomplished. Sheridan has been in a school setting throughout her entire life. Her academic career began at Crafton Hills Community College. Being the first one in her family to go to college, she was surprised at the amount of opportunities they had there. She got her associates degree after three years and moved on to University of California Riverside. She originally went for religious studies, but ended up taking all English courses instead. She graduated from Riverside with her bachelor’s in English. From there, she went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for her master’s in English. In 2013, she graduated from Drew University with her Masters of Fine Arts in poetry. …show more content…

Sheridan had a number of different fields she was interested in when she started community college. She wanted to be a philosophy major, a religious studies major, an art history major, and even a geology major at one point. She explained that she ended up in English by chance.
