The Ref
Do you know who Sarah Thomas is? She is the NFL’s first female full time and most accomplished female referee. She was born in 1973 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. When she was in highschool she played basketball and softball. The officials never liked her because she would always try to make them change the call and she would disagree with them. It was the same when she went to the University of Mobile. She wanted to stay involved with sports after she graduated, so she joined a church basketball league for men.She played with them for two years until she was told she could no longer play.
Throughout Sarah Thomas's career she has shown how courageous she is. When she started trying out to be a ref in the NFL she knew that she would

be the first woman, and she still tried out. When she started she didn't know much about refereeing but she still did it. When she refs she has to deal with fans, players, and coaches but she sticks through it and does her job. She is good about keeping her cool with the players. Refereeing can be dangerous but she still does it. Like during the Vikings vs Packers game on Christmas Eve, she ended up breaking her wrist and got put on concussion protocol. During games she has to calm coaches down because of calls , and she has the ability to explain why she made the call.
She always keeps achieving and surprising people. When she first started she worked as a high school ref. Then she moved up to college. Then eventually she got noticed by scouts and went to the NFL. When she went to refereeing camps she surprised many people by how good she was. She was so good that she reffed at the Big Ten stadium, and she reffed at the Super Bowl. Refereeing isn't just her job she also works as a pharmaceutical representative.
She is very hard work-working. When she first started out she kept studying and getting better. She didn't know much when she started out but she kept going so she got noticed by scouts. Her job requires her to make fast decisions and good ones, and she can do that and keep going. When people get mad at her she keeps going and doesn't give up. She became very good at saying why she made the call and that takes hard work to do. She even has a family to take care of and she does that.
Sarah Thomas is very hard-working, courageous, and she always keeps achieving and that is why she became such a successful referee. She has changed how women referees are thought of and treated.
