The Orange Coast College Health Fair Expo was an event geared towards educating members about the importance of personal and mental health. The event was heavily inspired by our 2017-2018 District Service Initiative which was Be the Change: Personal Health. There were numerous booths each focusing on a different aspect of personal health, such as nutrition and diet, sleep, therapy and stress relief, and a service project of making health kids for the less fortunate. The Health Fair Expo was a new event hosted by Orange Coast College and was put together by the 2017-2018 President, Vice President of Service, and an alumni whom had connections with the American Heart Association. Overall, the Health Fair Expo was a one day event which taught …show more content…
After having carefully deliberated and conferred with the board, it was evident that the main concern for the club members was their self care, which in turn led to the discussion of the District Service Initiative being Be the Change: Personal Health. It was clear that the club struggled with putting their health and needs first, mostly because some members did not know how to. The idea of the Health Fair Expo sprouted from the need to educate members on how to focus on themselves and their health. The Health Fair Expo focused on different aspect of self care and health and taught members by having different booths, which would teach mini lessons and give tips on how to improve their health. Due to the Health Fair Expo having been geared towards the Orange Coast College Circle K members, it was a meaningful event that focused on something that members were lacking at the time, which was knowledge on the …show more content…
Meetings were held by the Health Fair Expo Planning Committee. In total, 4 meetings were dedicated to the Health Fair Expo: two of which were online meetings, one was with the club advisor, Jeff Dimsdale, and one was with just the President and Vice President of Service. Members were encouraged to participate by being asked if they were particularly knowledgeable on an aspect of personal health and if they would like to share their knowledge with the members of the club. A few members hosted booths and others assisted with planning the event by talking to potential donors for donations which would be given away at the Health Fair Expo. Furthermore, on the day of the event, members assisted with setup: cleaned and arranged rooms, hung decorations, turned on computers and made sure the technology was working for the presenters. The main aspect that needed a lot of help was the outside venue where the booths were held, such as the canopies having to be setup and arranged for each booth, the dog therapy and the yoga sessions had to be in an area appropriate and peaceful enough for the attendees to relax. We also had a volunteer look after the stress ball making booth because the activity required someone knowledgeable of the process, so if a student needs help making it the volunteer was be there to help them. Our members were very
For the first component of the Session Long Project, your task is to write a 2-3 page essay about a health care organization with which you are involved, or are familiar. Specifically, your tasks are to select an organization and describe it. Then, discuss the main challenges in marketing that organization.
Everyone took their roles very serious, which was the fun part to me. When doing a project like this you want everyone being as serious as possible and playing their role as it should be. Logan Diehl (mayor) really set the stimulation when he stepped up to the podium in his suit to give an overview of the meeting and call the meeting to order. Another aspect of the stimulation I enjoyed and thought it brought realistic vibes was when the city council representatives which included myself introduced themselves and stated what ward they represented before asking their
Self- care abilities of individuals and communities are important to promote mental and physical health and to reduce mortality and morbidity that occur from accidental injuries and chronic conditions (Dillion, 1997). Dillion states a key strategy is a health fair (Dillion,
I did a good job because they only contacted me with their questions and I was able to give them my full attention. There was no confusion of who was in charge of Health Fair. My manager noticed my capability of being responsible and having the ability to supervise others. I gained more confidence in myself from this experience.

As a large sedentary community, the Mid Atlantic Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (MACPAC) has a great need to promote exercise and healthy eating habits in the workplace. Currently more than one-third of the country suffers from obesity. It is my hope that with the help of the Wellness Committee we can continue to improve healthy lifestyle changes, and curb the epidemic of obesity that our country has. I am currently finishing my Masters in Public Health, and need to do a service project for the community. It is my hope that the MACPAC will be a place where we can start this change from sedentary lifestyles, to a more healthy and active
Healthy People 2020 is a program for the promotion of health and the prevention of diseases, launched by the Department of Health and Human Services in December 2010. According to healthypeople.gov, this program has four overarching goals which are first to achieve healthy, longer lives free of preventable diseases, injuries, and premature deaths; to achieve health fairness, eliminate differences, and improve all groups’ health; also to produce social and physical environments that encourage good health; and last but not least to promote life’s quality, healthy development, and healthy behaviors through all life stages. The Lanier County health department supports several of the topics pertaining to Healthy People 2020. Some topics that the health department and Healthy People 2020 have in common include, education and community-based programs, environmental health, family planning, immunization and infectious disease, sexually transmitted diseases, and maternal, infant, and child health. One topic that stands out to me is, education and community-based programs, which shares the goals and objective of this agency. Healthy People 2020’s goal is to, “increase the quality, availability, and effectiveness of educational and community-based programs designed to prevent disease and injury, improve health, and enhance quality of life” (U.S. Department of Health
During most of my grade school and middle school years, I had been exposed to the Students Against Destructive Decisions Programs, both at school and through my father’s occupation as a therapist. I recall vividly participating or aiding in many of their health fairs and events. After school or on weekends, as a grade school student I handed out stickers, informational brochures and sometimes candy or balloons to get other students and or their parents interested in the healthy information at our booth. I became known as one of the youngest and persistent volunteers. One could not get by our booth without either a sticker or a balloon, and most certainly, useful information.
Depending on the campus requirements, some chapters choose to have potential new members assist them in completing different acts of service. Other chapters simply present information about the philanthropy and have members discuss specific chapter events. If your chapter chooses to work on a project, the Philanthropy Chairman, Membership Chairman and/or the President should first give a presentation that covers information about the organization that will benefit from the day’s project as well as any information about other philanthropic events the chapter

Through out this course I have learned to understand why there is a need to educate my peers. Taking part in this can help increase awareness and knowledge about various health topics that relate to fellow students around me. The Health Fair helped me take part in advocating better health. From the taking part in the Health Fair I learned many things about how to educate my peers by breaking down barriers that I once had.

When most of us take on a new wellness program, our expected outcome is weight loss, increased energy, an improved physique, enhanced mental clarity, and other healthy benefits. At the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, however, a wellness program implemented earlier this year has become much more than a change in the scales, a more encouraging trip to the doctor’s office, or a smaller clothing size. It has enhanced the working dynamics within the organization.
