The Orange Coast College Health Fair Expo was an event geared towards educating members about the importance of personal and mental health. The event was heavily inspired by our 2017-2018 District Service Initiative which was Be the Change: Personal Health. There were numerous booths each focusing on a different aspect of personal health, such as nutrition and diet, sleep, therapy and stress relief, and a service project of making health kids for the less fortunate. The Health Fair Expo was a new event hosted by Orange Coast College and was put together by the 2017-2018 President, Vice President of Service, and an alumni whom had connections with the American Heart Association. After having carefully deliberated and conferred with the board, it was evident that the main concern for the club members was their self care, which in turn led to the discussion of the District Service Initiative being Be the Change: Personal Health. It was clear that the club struggled with putting their health and needs first, mostly because some members did not know how to. The idea of the Health Fair Expo sprouted from the need to educate members on how to focus on themselves and their health. The Health Fair Expo focused on different aspect of self care and health and taught members by having different booths, which would teach mini lessons and give tips on how to improve their health. Meetings were held by the Health Fair Expo Planning Committee. In total, 4 meetings were dedicated to the Health Fair Expo: two of which were online meetings, one was with the club advisor, Jeff Dimsdale, and one was with just the President and Vice President of Service. Members were encouraged to participate by being asked if they were particularly knowledgeable on an aspect of personal health and if they would like to share their knowledge with the members of the club. A few members hosted booths and others assisted with planning the event by talking to potential donors for donations which would be given away at the Health Fair Expo. Furthermore, on the day of the event, members assisted with setup: cleaned and arranged rooms, hung decorations, turned on computers and made sure the technology was working for the presenters. The main aspect that needed a lot of help was the outside venue where the booths were held, such as the canopies having to be setup and arranged for each booth, the dog therapy and the yoga sessions had to be in an area appropriate and peaceful enough for the attendees to relax. We also had a volunteer look after the stress ball making booth because the activity required someone knowledgeable of the process, so if a student needs help making it the volunteer was be there to help them.
