Kappa Kappa Gamma encourages members to assist local organizations that hold special meaning for them. In our desire to strengthen the youth of surrounding communities and prepare them for the future, Kappa formed a national partnership with Reading Is Fundamental, an organization that seeks to transform lives through the power of books. The amazing thing is that it doesn’t end there! The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation was created to help our own members in need. Whether it’s a scholarship to help a young woman complete her education or an emergency grant in a time of need, we help Kappas when they need it most. The Foundation also endows Leadership Academy, an intergenerational, life-changing retreat that impacts more than 250 women each year. The program is designed to help members recognize their leadership potential and encourage them to serve in leadership roles in their chapters, on their campuses and in their communities. Additionally, many chapters participate in GIRLS (Girls Inspiring Respect, Leadership and Service) Academy, the first program of its kind among fraternal organizations. During GIRLS Academy, collegiate and alumna members of Kappa mentor and encourage middle-school girls to become stronger individuals who aspire to be their best. …show more content…
Depending on the campus requirements, some chapters choose to have potential new members assist them in completing different acts of service. Other chapters simply present information about the philanthropy and have members discuss specific chapter events. If your chapter chooses to work on a project, the Philanthropy Chairman, Membership Chairman and/or the President should first give a presentation that covers information about the organization that will benefit from the day’s project as well as any information about other philanthropic events the chapter
In the 1960s, Girls Inc. focused on homemaking skills, with the hopes of turning the girls into exceptional young ladies. Then in the 1970’s, a new executive director came on board and took a critical look at the organization’s mission of educating girls into...
When one first thinks of Greek life or a sorority the only thing that comes to mind is the social aspect. Most people don’t think of sororities as social institutions that envelop their own culture, with mannerisms, languages and customs that are unique to each individual organization. However, these institutions promote a common set of values that enable members to become connected in a way that has a more profound meaning than just social interaction. Greek organizations are good examples of how institutions can affect and be affected by social status and roles within the collegiate community. They are also a prime example of how race, class and gender can affect a social setting in both positive and negative manners.
While sororities and fraternities were created to nurture scholarships, service, and social ties for young people, many Greek organizations have become ensnared in less than fulfilling practices. Before students agree to associate themselves with a group of people who willingly participate in human degradation, they should thoroughly research current statistics regarding involvement in crime across campus, and reports of alcohol poisoning, hazing, and racial discrimination. The mere knowledge of these outrageous behaviors should cause people to think twice before supporting the organizations that commit them.
Participating in greek life is a great way to make friends, have an instant connection with certain people across the nation, and learn leadership skills and time management along the way. University of Virginia and Clemson University both have prominent greek systems that rule the social scene. As stated on, “Fraternity and Sorority Life” for the Clemson website, “Fraternity and Sorority Life is represented in numerous student organizations and for many, is an integral part of the Clemson Experience”. This quote shows the significance that greek life plays on the social scene at the University. Fraternities and Sororities compete in intermurals to doing community service. Greek life also helps build character. On the University of Virginia website, “About Us Fraternity and Sorority Life”, describes how leadership qualities are promoted and acted on by diverse service experiences. As a student at either university, greek life would provide me with the social scene I’m looking for and create me into a well rounded
What did you aspire to be when you pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma? The time as a new member is a very exciting experience. Meeting new Kappa sisters, participating in chapter activities and being welcomed into a community of leadership, scholarship and friendship are the reasons women aspire to be Kappas. These traditions continue after graduation as an alumna and last a lifetime. The sisterhood developed with chapter members and members from other chapters at other universities is a lasting influence and will be of assistance in finding your new place in the world.
As a member of Pi Kappa Phi, it is not just considered a fraternity to party at, but believe in academic excellence. This includes having a minimum GPA of 2.7 and mandatory philanthropy events for the community. There is nothing better than helping someone in need. I am still a pledge and through the last nine weeks I have experienced and gained more leadership skills than I have had in my whole life. I personally love this place and would bring anyone interested in the fraternity to see what it is really about. The atmosphere always remains safe and friendly to each individual’s personal wants and needs, including my own. The members of the chapter at our university are genuinely good men and have the best intentions with everyone they approach. Tyler Sayers is a member of Pi Kappa Phi at South Alabama. He holds a position as the Secretary of all fraternities and sororities at South Alabama, which makes a huge difference in the Greek system. He is planning to run for President this upcoming term that will be a great addition to the fraternity. It is an amazing feeling that a member of the same fraternity could be in charge of all of the fraternities and sororities on campus. This will prove even more, how dominate we are over other fraternities. I would highly recommend any young man interested in Greek life at USA to check out the Pi Kappa Phi house. In order to find the house, simply look for the letters on the front of the house
On behalf of the 2016–18 Fraternity Council and Foundation Board of Trustees, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Kappa Kappa Gamma’s 72nd Biennial Convention in Denver. We hope you will enjoy this opportunity to meet sisters of many generations from across the United States and Canada and take advantage of every minute of your time here. Attending educational sessions, listening to speakers, engaging in conversation, participating in yoga … All of these things will help us expand our thoughts by looking at our organization and ourselves just a little bit differently.
Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for junior college students. It establishes and encourages values of scholarship, leadership, and professionalism among its two million members dispersed globally across 1,250 chapters. This project seeks to analyze the texts Phi Theta Kappa utilizes in order to foster and encourage these values through an
Our goal is to refresh ourselves on Kappa values and learn how we can promote and live those values around campus. Additionally, Membership Chairmen will familiarize themselves with the new Membership Criteria form and walk away with practice in building that criteria.
Good evening, Mr.Laub, Board Member, thank you for being here despite your tight schedule giving me a chance to inform the troubles our student are facing now in Avon local school. Because of the absence of school buses year after year, students knowing the danger of traveling on ice, or walking under the unbearable heat during the April and may, they have no choice but to suffer through it.
We invite every Kappa woman to be part of our future and help ensure the best Kappa for every member. Help inspire the future of Kappa and enhance your leadership and career skills in the process.
As we matriculate through life, we all have decisions that must be thought out and choices that need to be made. The decision of who we ultimately wish to become; the choice of whether you personally are going to make a change for the better or fall by the waste side as life continues to move. For some the choice was easy, for others, the decision was a bit more daunting. I have made my choice. My choice was more of a desire, I desire to be an Alpha Man. I desire this because this is an organization that has stood the test of time, and continues to be an image of change. I desire to be a part of this Organization because of the brotherly relationship it builds between men, its’ dedication to bettering our communities, as well as how mutually beneficial as far as growth.

This time of the year, I get calls from many golfers who want to qualify for the US Open. Many of the golfers who reach out to me are club pros, teaching pros, college coaches and assistant professionals. For the most part, they are talented players, but only a few have the physical and the mental skills to succeed at this level. Remember, one bad shot or one bad hole can sometimes kill a great round.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
