Kappa Membership, a Gift for a Lifetime What did you aspire to be when you pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma? The time as a new member is a very exciting experience. Meeting new Kappa sisters, participating in chapter activities and being welcomed into a community of leadership, scholarship and friendship are the reasons women aspire to be Kappas. These traditions continue after graduation as an alumna and last a lifetime. The sisterhood developed with chapter members and members from other chapters at other universities is a lasting influence and will be of assistance in finding your new place in the world. What do you aspire to be as an alumna? The alumna experience can be just as exciting and rewarding as collegiate life and every alumna is encouraged …show more content…
to remain an involved member of the Fraternity. There are many ways to remain involved, such as joining an alumnae association, advising a local chapter, serving on a House Board, participating in a chapter-sponsored philanthropy, continuing to pay the annual per capita fee to support our programs and donating to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, just to name a few. After leaving school, an alumna’s first priority is to stay connected to Kappa Kappa Gamma by keeping her contact information up to date. Fraternity Headquarters should be kept informed of any address changes through the Kappa Kappa Gamma website. You can update your member profile by logging into www.kappa.org/members, and clicking “Edit Profile.” If you need help logging in, contact kkghq@kkg.org. Updating your information will ensure you continue to receive The Key and are able to access information like the Kappa website Kappas Connecting With Kappas Our alumna members exemplify the standards and ideals of Kappa Kappa Gamma and are role models in business, community and family. Alumnae aspire to be different roles in society, but it is the diversity of our experiences and individual involvement in Kappa that strengthens our bonds and associations. These unique experiences become interwoven with the shared experiences all Kappas had as collegiate members to build new bonds and friendships. Alumnae associations aspire to be resources for alumnae through excellence in programming, which includes social events, educational opportunities, Kappa-specific information and philanthropic activities. Alumnae Associations The purpose of an alumnae association is: • To provide friendship and support to all members. • To provide support to collegiate members. • To provide opportunities for self-growth and intellectual development of its members. • To recommend potential new members. • To provide support to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, local communities and Reading Is Fundamental. Kappa Kappa Gamma alumnae associations may: • Have as few as 10 members or as many as 900 members. • Meet a minimum of four times per year or meet monthly and have many interest groups such as Night Owls, Kappas with Kids, Hiking, and Lunch Bunch groups. • Support the Foundation, Reading Is Fundamental and many other philanthropies • Support a chapter with advisers and House Board members who live a distance from the chapter or who live in close proximity. Joining an Alumnae Association Joining your nearest alumnae association, where you will meet Kappas of various ages and experiences from all parts of the United States and Canada is a great way to stay involved and connect to a local network. To find an association near you, use the association locator on the Fraternity website. If there is not an association near you, contact Fraternity Headquarters. Kappa has more than 250 alumnae associations internationally and more than 13,000 paid alumna members who make up one of the largest alumna Greek-letter networking groups. An alumna will find a Kappa sister wherever she resides! My local alumnae association: Alumnae association contact: Name of the alumnae association that I will be relocating to: Annual Membership Fee Annual membership fees are determined by every alumnae association and include the per capita fee paid to the Fraternity.
Alumnae who wish to join more than one association may do so by paying the local dues of each association. Alumnae who live in an area that does not have an association are welcome to pay their per capita fees directly to Fraternity Headquarters through Dues Direct. To do so, log into www.kappa.org/members, and click “Pay Dues Now.” What is the Per Capita Fee? When you pledged Kappa, you promised to accept the responsibilities of lifelong membership. Part of that responsibility is supporting Kappa through payment of the per capita fee (i.e., alumna dues). The per capita fee can be paid through your local alumnae association or via Dues Direct. To be considered a Kappa member in good standing, your per capita fee should be paid annually. The per capita fee helps support: • Our chapters and alumnae associations. • Educational opportunities for collegians and alumnae. • Publication of our award-winning magazine, The Key. • Fraternity Headquarters operations, and
more! Convention and Kappa Leadership Conferences In even years, Kappa holds a Convention for all members. In odd years, Kappa Leadership Conferences are held across the country. At these events, important Kappa business is covered, educational workshops are held for collegians and alumnae, and opportunities to connect are provided. All Kappas are welcome to attend and registration information can be found on the Fraternity website. In addition, every alumnae association is encouraged to send one delegate to attend business meetings and workshops and become better acquainted with the workings of the Fraternity. As a representative of her association, she is entitled to vote. Chapter Support There is no better way to give back to Kappa Kappa Gamma than to support an active chapter. Chapters need all forms of support, whether it is supporting their philanthropy event, being a chaperone or becoming involved as an adviser or House Board member. If you would like to find out more about how you can support a chapter, contact the Advisory Board Chairman, House Board President or Coordinator of Chapter Support of the nearest chapter by accessing the chapter locator on the Fraternity website. Submitting a Reference Alumna members are natural sources of information about potential members whose aspirations exhibit the Kappa qualities of leadership, scholarship and friendship. It is the responsibility of alumnae to bring women who exemplify the ideals of the Fraternity to the attention of collegiate members by submitting a reference on the Kappa website. Chapter members shall have the responsibility of selecting members. The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation For more than a century, Kappa Kappa Gamma has made remarkable contributions in philanthropy and advancement of higher education for women, providing services in ways the earliest chapters probably never imagined. The Mission of the Foundation is: To support the lifetime development of women through the funding of educational programs, financial assistance and the preservation of Kappa heritage. The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation was established in 1989 to serve as the nonprofit arm of the Fraternity. The Foundation raises dollars to support charitable and educational initiatives that empower inspired women. How the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation Supports Members and Heritage: • Grants: Help fund educational and leadership programming and events for Kappas and the community. • History: The Foundation fundraises to preserve our heritage through digitization, archival resources and storytelling. • Rose McGill Aid: For emergency assistance, medical assistance and ongoing assistance for collegians and alumnae. Associations and chapters can get involved through the Holiday Program. • Scholarships The Foundation’s philanthropic programs are possible because of the generous annual gifts of members, chapters and alumnae associations. At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first
I am writing to express my strong interest in being a member of Alpha Omicron chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. I am currently a sophomore at Syracuse University, and will be graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Global Political Economy.
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
Women of Delta, especially the ladies of the Alpha Tau Chapter, excel excessively in everything they accomplish and partake in from what I have seen on Southern Universities campus and in the community. Their outstanding work ethics, academics success, social friendliness, dominating attitudes, and constant need to help others is just a few explanations why I would be honored to be a lovely member of ...
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to promote sisterhood in colleges to assure a bond between college women, and the sorority leads by being an example for other college women to follow. Alpha Kappa Alpha also promotes higher education and positive self-esteem to younger women. Alpha Kappa Alpha also gives back to the community in community service that could range from educating our women on relevant topics to just lending a hand in the community. I want to contribute to this purpose at Mississippi State University and back in my hometown.
To me the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to promote sisterhood and unity, serve the community, and build lifelong bonds. Therefore, I am seeking membership in order to be a part of a sisterhood that
This essay is just a brief summary of why I desire to be an Alpha man and the contributions I will bring to Alpha Phi Alpha. As previously stated my fully expounded upon desires would greatly exceed the limits of this essay, so if I had K.I.S.S it into just three words, I would choose; learn, grow, and share. However, I am strong believer of deeds over words, so this essay will serve only as mental fodder and the main course will come in the form of my actions.
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. This sorority has not only empowered women to help others, but it
I have gained access to this community through pledgeship in Sigma Chi, one the most prestigious fraternities in the nation, with the hopes of becoming a brother. Even though I have access to this community I know very little because I am so new. Through my research, I have learned and discovered the intricacies and deeper understandings of not just Sigma
As the end of spring semester of my freshman year approached, I was overcome with both joy and relief knowing that soon I would be done with finals and, more importantly, I would soon be completing my slightly long and extremely dry initiation process and finally be allowed to called myself a sister of Sigma Delta Tau. Even though I was beyond excited to become a sister, I couldn’t help but feel weird about the entire situation. Up until the day I decided to rush, I never in a million years would’ve thought that I, of all people, would join a sorority. Even though I had come to terms with the fact that I was in fact meant to be a sorority girl, I was still unsure of how to tell my friends and family back home that I was a sister. In high school, I’d always
If I am chosen as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I will work hard to uphold the reputation and exceed the standards that those before me have set. I believe becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. means joining a group of highly educated women that together I believe are capable of facilitating the type of change that is imperative in today’s society. It is my hope that I will be accepted as a member and be afforded the opportunity to take part in that change. I look forward to hearing from you regarding my request to join your
Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. has played a large part in my life in a short amount of time; this organization has granted me the opportunity to attend college through a scholarship. The scholarship that I was granted was through the alumni chapter in Fayetteville; it required letters of recommendations, a transcript, an application, and an essay on what I believe “Achievement in every field of human endeavor” means. Once I received the call that was telling me to meet the representative to receive a letter stating whether I received the scholarship. When I opened the letter, two tickets fell out for the Kappa Scholarship ball, and when I read the letter, it stated that I have been picked to receive the scholarship from Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. The weekend of the scholarship ball, my mother planned a graduation trip for a couple of friends of mine and I to go Myrtle Beach. So the day of the scholarship ball, I drove from Myrtle Beach to Fayetteville to attend the scholarship ball; once I arrived at the ball, I was greeted by many men of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. When I sat down at the table that they reserved for me and the three other scholarship awardees, I was approached by many men of the fraternity. That night was very spectacular and eventful; the men who had presented me scholarship seemed down to earth, sociable guys. They treated me with so much respect, and talked to me about how I see my future and told me what I could do to be a successful African-American in today’s society. These men set an example of accomplishment and in the short time that we had together, they instilled in me that I should never be content with where I am and I can always do better as long as I have the mind set of an achiever. Without this scholarship, I ...
Sigma Alpha Epsilon is a national fraternity that is subsequently found on campus at the University of West Florida. This fraternity is well - known for having large parties in which the entire campus of students is invited. At the larger parties, the frat prints up tee shirts that depict the party's theme as well as a catchy slogan that all in attendance are urged to buy. This "fund raiser" accounts for a good portion of the fraternity's finances. The fund raiser chair delegate is in charge of all the operations that come with designing and preparing these shirts to be sold to the general public. In order for the fundraiser to be successful, a well thought out pricing strategy must be applied.
