What is wellness? “Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy life. Wellness is also a process for change and growth” (Health Topic – What is wellness?). To have acceptable wellness you should have an equal amount of social, emotional/mental, and physical health. I, myself, believe that I have an okay wellness, I mean not like full wellness but just enough to pass I'll say. But how am I living in wellness?
There are different ways of living with wellness. My social health is getting better. I'm doing my best to be social with people. I occasionally like talking to people, but it's better than not talking at all. My mental/emotional health I would say is good. Consistently I have doubts about how I feel about myself. I assume everyone has those days when they don't feel acceptable, but at the end of the day you are at what you are. How am I not living well?
I have lots of problems in my life, but being well is probably one of them. My social health was bad but after meeting everyone, I actually like talking to people. As a freshman in high school you can understand the struggle to fit in, especially with the older kids. The older kids always like to put the little ones, but that's what they don't there is nothing you can do about it. I'm not saying I'm having problems with them considering those aren't the people I want to hang out with, it's just many people in the 9th grade can be so rude to each other. Everyday you notice, but mostly hear, people talking about their so called “friends”. I'm going to be honest, that is one of the reasons why I'm not friends with everyone. .... There are people who have perfect wellness, there are those who don't. But that's what makes people different. You don't have to have the best amount of wellness to be happy with yourself. You just need a balance in your wellness. Working on a kind of health in your wellness will make you better and also feel better. It's all up to you. Sometimes things happen to you that wasn't your fault, but it is your decision on how you handle that situation. If someone wants you to smoke and you don't want to, you don't have to. Just leave or meet new people. You don't have to be there forever. It's your life to control not others. Just make the right decisions and everything will go fine. That is true wellness.

...ional well being mostly varies by week through the actions and accomplishments I have achieved. Sometimes I have little self-confidence, optimism, and self-esteem. Although I can hide these factions of my life fairly well sometimes I do slip and it becomes very noticeable. The main way I feel I can combat this emotion strife is to find ways to motivate myself. The best way to do this is to seek professional help when I need it and to spend time with people who make me happy and motivated. By engaging in happy and friendly activities with family, friends, and loved ones I should be able to build up optimism. In doing so fighting low self esteem and low self confidence will be easier and almost immediate. Thus working on these factors will motivate and assist me in accomplishing my overall target behavior of doing regular check-ups and recognizing symptoms of disease.
Myers & Sweeney (2008) states, the wheel of wellness is a model that is gear towards the individual’s well-being in which body, mind, and spirit are linked as one so that the client and professional can live life to the fullest within social and natural norms. In addition, resilience for professionals is to know how to cope and come out of a stressful situation without any kind of remorse. Furthermore, prevention is to prevent disastrous of one’s life. For example, an individual needs to re-evaluate his or her life on a daily basis. According to Venart & Pitcher 2007 [Myers & Sweeney (2005] states, Wellness is an aftermath and a system, a primary aspiration for existing, and a way of life.

Wellness is imperative to a healthy life. Sometimes, people do not really consider what makes up wellness, they simply think of it as being “well”. Wellness may be a state of being “well”, however, it incorporates different areas such as nutrition, health, safety, nurturing, and emotional stability. People must be healthy in all of these areas in order to achieve wellness. This is not an easy task for an adult, but definitely not for children.
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as: understanding and sharing your thoughts and feelings with yourself and those around you, and being confident in your self and the decisions you make. Some well known people who I believe have attained emotional wellness include Ellen DeGeneres and Doctor Phil.
In order to have an indivisible self it is important to value a wellness approach. As it is mentioned in the book of Counseling and Interviewing “Wellness and positive psychology are effective a basis for growth and change in both mind and body.” Wellness is important to help build confidence and helps us to develop positive relationship in order to develop a sense of worth that will helps not only ourselves but those who surround us to feel treasured and supported.
Wellness is becoming aware of your physical and emotional state of being and making better choices for a better life. There are different categories of wellness, including social, occupational, spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, environmental, and financial. My strongest performing areas of wellness are intellectual and physical. My weakest areas of wellness are financial, occupational, and emotional. All the categories of wellness affect each other and the level of a person's performance overall.
If one wants to live an enjoyable, fulfilling life they must know what it truly means to be well. Living a wellness lifestyle means incorporating all aspects of what it takes to flourish as a human being. It goes beyond the health of the physical body and incorporates the important social, emotional, and spiritual factors that play a part in every person’s life in one way or another. Knowing how to act correctly, control our feelings, channel our frustrations, and improve in each dimension of wellness will lead to a satisfactory life. Spiritual, physical, emotional, nutritional, and social wellness define the biggest components of life and thriving in them is vital.
Your personal path to spiritual health may involve any or all of the things shared above. Seek to find a harmony between what which lies within you and with the external forces of your physical and social well-being. One way to begin to engage in the process of spiritual wellness is to do an assessment. Here are a few possible questions to ask yourself: 1) Do I make time for relaxation in my day? 2) Do I make time for some form of meditation and/or prayer? 3) Do my internal values guide my life, including my actions and decisions? 4) Do I accept the views and opinions of others?
Health is described as physical and mental well-being and freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only superficially define the actual meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Health is a quality of life involving dynamic interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists. There are many factors that influence your health, but three major components contribute to general well-being: Self-awareness, a balanced diet and, regular physical activity.
According to our text book, health is “by simplest definition, being sound in body, mind, and spirit” (Hales, 2003). It is impossible to improve your body and mind without the spirit coming along too. I feel as though I am spiritualty fit, I have purpose and I live in a state of gratitude and optimism as much as possible but I am excited to see how much better it can be once I reach my goals.
According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility." It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions both individually and collectively. Not living a healthy lifestyle, can have damaging effects on both health and life, and not only yours but the people that are around you. An unhealthy lifestyle means more illness and more expenses to treat those illnesses. This means a bigger burden on an already challenged and over-budgeted healthcare system. Poor health also means more time lost at work, less quality recreational time, and shorter lifespans. Not to mention, the onset of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world.
