Much like Mike, I have had some amazing academic mentors that were not afraid to get down in the trenches with me and ask what I was trying to say. I had Ms. Lewis my freshmen year of high school, she would sit down with me and rip apart my paper and rework it as necessary. During my senior year of high school, I had the privilege of taking a U.W. English class that was a seminar format where the instructor would frequently conference with us, and he gave me the tools to continue my education. However, something we all need to remember, especially at PLU, is to not be afraid to be a mentor to someone else. In life, we are all teachers. We tell one another our stories, and by doing that we are teaching them what it is like to look at the world through our lens.

Mentoring is the process of developing an individual or group, through guidance and giving advice. There is no age restriction between the mentee and mentor. The focus of the mentoring is not just to develop a particular area but to grow the individual or group as a whole. In essence the mentor keeps the big picture in mind through his/her mentoring. This can be specific to an industry, skills, experience but not limited to these particular factors.

When I was in middle school and through high school a mentor I had was an older man in my community. From this relationship I had someone who was concerned with what I was doing in school, and within the community. I also got the opportunity to learn different skills from him such as woodworking, landscaping, and the chance to further develop my communication skills. These experiences may seem like nothing, but from them I have learned that taking my time helps me produce my best work possible. At the same time I learned many life lessons from my experiences with him as well as his experiences that he shared with me. Still to this day I'm in contact with my mentor, and I'm very thankful for all of the experiences and life lessons that I learned
The two brothers invested greatly in the Lamborghini. They made great cars and helped them get back to the top
I very much feel like a mentor in the development of a person's character is necessary. Let’s start off by saying that every little kid says they want to be like someone when they grow up, but why do they say that? Little kids look up to people who they think are “cool” or people they want to “be like” because they think they are heros, lifesavers, good people, etc. GOOD parents teach their kids to be respectful, how to treat others, they also tell them what to do and what not to do, they teach them how to deal with hard decisions. Only focusing on “good” parents, they teach them things that they would want their kids to know and lead them in the right path.
As defined by Merriam Webster, a mentor is, “someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person.” “My Mentor, My Friend” is a poem about the relationship of a mentor and a mentee that goes beyond this definition. The author writes about how their mentor not only gives guidance, but is someone they trust and can be themselves around. This mentor is seen as a friend that is looked up to for advice, life skills, and encouragement. They were always patient, uplifting, accepting, and understanding, going above and beyond the basic role of a mentor. The mentee expresses in this poem how appreciative and thankful they are to have a mentor and friend in their life. (Genter, 97)

In fact, we need a variety of mentors if we are to be successful, as different people have differing experiences and skills. You are in as much need of mentors as a single person as you will be if you begin looking for a marriage partner. You might have one person who helps you with your education and career, another who helps you with money, and a third who helps you with life and relationships. Many young people just need to be motivated and given a fair chance at success. Young people need mentors to help them find their way and to help them stay focused. Mentors play an intricate roll in your lives and are sort of liaisons between your parents or guardians and your educators.
Someone in my life that I would want to mentor me would be my boyfriend, Darell. He would make a good mentor because he’s put in time to actually understand me and get to know who I am as a person. Since we are really close, I’m able to handle his constructive criticism better. He is someone who has always encouraged me and stayed with me even when I showed my flaws.
