In my team’s investigation, we were trying to figure out four unknown powders based on the known powders we had. Our research question was, how do different chemicals change the color of the flame. First in the experiment, we prepared our lab space by making sure we had a clear countertop and had a beaker full of water ready for the hot splint to be dumped into. We all put our hair back and put our goggles on and then proceeded to turn the Bunsen burner on. After we put the Bunsen burner on, Mr. Young adjusted our flame and we sent someone to grab the first chemical to burn. We burnt chemicals on the wooden splint one after one observing the color the flame produced, recording the color, and proceeded to put the splint in the water afterwards. …show more content…
The only reason this is true is since every chemical has a diverse atomic structure and has a unique amount of photons in each one. The photons are what cause the neon lights to emit particular colors, since the amount of energy they carry and emit, based on our lab, there is probably another chemical mixed with neon to create various colors in a neon sign.
A model is a visual representation that demonstrates a theory. Models are important since scientists often make models to represent something the naked eye cannot see. For example, Neil Bohr made a model of an atom to demonstrate his idea of what an atomic structure ideally looks like. In his model specifically, he demonstrates how electrons can jump levels, obviously nobody can see an atom or can see electrons jump energy levels, however the model helps prove his theory since it is based on the evidence he has collected. Erwin Schrodinger was able to mathematically calculate the probability of electrons being in certain areas around an atom. Without his electromagnetic radiation model, his theory sounds silly and sounds like it is not true, but his model and evidence has proven his theory. All in all, models help prove theories that scientists form based on the evidence they have
The purpose of conducting experiment was to determine the identity of white compound. Based on the 5 gram of unknown white compound several experiment conducted including solubility test, pH test, flame test, and ion test. Several materials including chemicals used throughout experiment and will be described through paragraphs.
We gauged the amount of mass that the fuel lost when raising the temperature of water 20 degrees C. Throughout the experiment we constantly worked with chemicals, boiling water, and liters, turning the Bunsen burners on and off. Because of this, each member of our group were carefully to wear goggles, gloves, a lab coat, and closed toed shoes, with pants down to the ankles. We also cautiously recalled the safety quiz with the locations for the shower and eye flusher in order to make sure we were prepared in case we required their use. Learning to remember these skills grew our knowledge and helped us be cautious for labs to come when working with dangerous
The lab experiment did prove that Crayola colors are not of pure substances but rather a mixture of specific color compounds needed to produce said colors. The experiment also proved that different color pigments have different densities (the lighter ones moved up the filter paper with the water, while the heavier ones adhered to the filter paper longer.)
To continue the experiment further I can use a different source of light to test the intensity of light. For the food coloring experiment, I could use a different food color such as yellow or orange to test.

Planning Firstly here is a list of equipment I used. Boiling tubes Weighing scales Knife Paper towels 100% solution 0% solution (distilled water) measuring beakers potato chips Cork borer. We planned to start our experiment by doing some preliminary work. We planned to set up our experiment in the following way.
A model is a simplified representation of the structure and content of a phenomenon or system that describes or explains the complex relationships between concepts within the system and integrates elements of theory and practice (Creek et al 1993).
The catapult lab conducted in physics helped demonstrate applied techniques of projectile motion. Through the use of a homemade catapult, I analyzed the factors that contribute to how far and fast a marble is shot. Although some data proved to be inconsistent and challenging to measure, being able to shoot a marble from a stool and accurately predict where it was going to land on a small target was a success. Watching the marble execute a nearly perfect target shot in the second half of the lab accomplished the lab’s original goal. Even though the structure of the catapult and natural deficiencies in data caused by human error and nature may have thrown off the accuracy of the data, the catapult lab was a complete and wholesome success.
Ties and hair should be tucked out of the way, so they do not make contact with any of the chemicals. It would also be preferable to wear a scientific apron, however this is not essential. We should also try our best not to spill any chemicals, and we must not eat or drink in the lab while dealing with these harmful chemicals, as they can get on our hands. Fair Test To make this experiment a fair test, we need to make sure we do a number of things. In this experiment we are trying to find the rate of reaction using concentration as a factor, so there are a number of things we need to make sure we do to keep it a fair test.
A model organism is a non-human species that is extensively studied to understand particular biological phenomena. The observations are expected to provide insight into the workings of other organisms. When we study disease, development and genetics in biology, they need to be studied in vitro to see how these processes (i.e. pathways and signals) work. Studying these in humans could be considered unethical or unsafe, and very expensive. Model organisms provide insight that we can’t gain from lab equipment alone. What we learn in model organisms can be used to predict what would happen to other organisms. All organisms evolved from the same ancestors and pathways are the same across all different species. Model organisms are a small number of species that have been studied extensively. We extrapolate information from model organisms to understand developmental, biological and metabolic pathways conserved throughout evolution. A model organism is one that can be used to effectively conduct biological research. They are necessary so that researchers can conduct their experiments quickly and efficiently while producing accurate results. Model organisms tend to be simple, making it easier for researchers to change one element and analyze the effects of that change.
In addition to this use of models, the natural sciences also use models to illustrate observations. When looking through a microscope one would need to model the cell or any such microscopic being, however it is impossible, as well as illogical, to grab wha...
Pyrotechnics special effects are widely used in motion picture production to create all types of effects involving explosions, fires, light, smoke and sound concussions. The types of pyrotechnics materials used include flash powder, flash paper, gun cotton, black powder (gunpowder), smokeless powder, detonator explosives, and many more. They are used in bullet hits (squibs), blank cartridges, flash pots, fuses, mortars, smoke pots, sparkle pots, etc.
Jack brown’s, “To build a fire” is a story about struggle of man vs nature. The story is set in the wilderness of the frozen Yukon during the harsh winter months when “there was no sun nor hint of sun” in the sky (118). London set his main character for a unique journey in harshest condition of Yukon trail with no human companion. He did not give man a name which further isolates him from human world. The story depicts the worst challenges the man faced, how his thought process changed as he continued his life’s most challenging journey and whether he was successful in overcoming those challenges.
A model is a representation of a physical, structural, or conceptual object or concept. It is important to bear in mind that a model is not the object or concept itself, it is merely a representation of it. It is evident that there will be some noticeable differences or deviations between the object or concept and the model representing it, this will affect one’s understanding . A model is generally used to simplify the complex theory or object. An object would be simplified, and distorted, into a model to be used for symbolic positioning or to show a systematic process. The knower would only be confused if they were to try to comprehend the original complex object, therefore the simplified form of the object facilitates a better and faster
It is mandatory that all the lab users need to work under the supervision of the instructor or any other qualified personnel. When conducting experiments, the users need to proceed with caution and report any spills, injuries and accidents to the teacher or the person in charge. The students should be careful when handling the lab chemicals and equipment to avoid accidents (Jay, 2010). When heating substances caution should be taken not to point the test tube to yourself or a colleague. All open flames that are in use within the lab should not be unattended and always turn off all the heating equipment and water taps when not in use. All the students should ensure that no experiment should be left while in progress at all
