Ethical and Socially Responsive Business
I believe that every company should encourage a relationship of trust, loyalty, honesty, and responsibility among staff members at all levels. It’s important that each staff member works together to achieve excellence in a business, so the code of conduct is put in place. The purpose of the code is to provide guidance and set common ethical standards for employees from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the food chain. Some of the areas that I find to be significant of importance in a business are sexual harassment, discrimination and simply being professional in a work environment.
Sexual Harassment Prohibited
Chick-fil-a wants to provide a safe and positive working environment for all employees, whether male or female. Sexual harassment will not be tolerated, it’s an unwelcome verbal or non-verbal sexual advance, requests for sexual favors, other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, it is considers a form of discrimination based on gender. The law prohibits sexual harassment by supervisor’s coworkers and even people who are not employees of the company. The company has a duty to keep their workplace free of harassment.
Discrimination Prohibited
Chick-fil-a strongly believes that employees and applicants for employment should be treated without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other prohibited basis. Chick-fil-A released a statement in July 2012 stating, "Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena. In March 2014, tax filings for 2012 showed the group ...

In conclusion the code of conduct is very important in a business it intended to be a central guide and reference for users in support of day-to-day decision making. It is meant to clarify an organization's mission, values and principles, linking them with standards of professional conduct. Some of the principles and standard I talk about was sexual harassment, being professional and discrimination on other. Some of the ways that employees can follower the code of conduct is by ethics training, Setting and following policies and procedures and include ethical behavior in their everyday life.
According to Chick-Fil-A’s website the process to own a franchise is lengthy and rigorous. Chick-fil-A: Franchise Application Information. (n.d.) “At Chick-fil-A, we believe that our success in a community is tied directly to the caliber of the individual fra...
He first focused on recruiting for the culture and how it is important for Chick-fil-A to select not only the best talent, but the best fit for the company. Chick-fil-A processes their selection based off of three C’s: character, competency, and chemistry. Kruse then focuses on how Chick-fil-A nurtures the talent that they have selected by telling them the truth when it comes to performance, expectations, and other things of that sort. The final point is about how Chick-fil-A engages their guests in their unique culture. Kruse (2015) states that Chick-fil-A wants customers and any guest that walks through the restaurant’s doors to be “treated with honor, dignity, and
By proactively addressing ethical issues with a code of conduct, Raiders Inc. can set the standard regarding how they want employees to behave. Employee can be trained on the company code of ethics so they understand how their company expects them to respond. They can also train them on the biases of decision making, to make sure they are aware of the pitfalls that exist. (Robbins & Coulter, 2012)
The ethical code of an organization illustrates the importance of being honest, acting with integrity, and showing fairness in decision making (Bethel, 2015). Ultimately, “laws regulating business conduct are passed because some stakeholders believe they cannot be trusted to do what is right” (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2015, p. 95). In the last couple of years, culture has become the initiator for compliance, which means from the top down there has to be a commitment to act in a way that represents the company’s core values (Verschoor, 2015).
It is interesting to see however that Chick-fil-A does support a few organizations that do not support the “traditional” definition of marriage. For this exact reason some locations do not allow Chick-fil-A to build restaurants at their location. A particular area that has been debated in the past is college campuses. For example, fairly recently a college located in California did not allow a Chick-fil-A to be built on their campus because they did not agree with the beliefs of Chick-fil-A. However, a college in New York did allow a Chick-fil-A to be built on their campus even though they also do not agree with Chick-fil-A’s marriage beliefs. It is interesting to note that Chick-fil-A has more recently moved away being involved with different locations that support traditional marriage beliefs. It will be interesting to see if this affects the company’s overall success in the future.
The Code of Ethics can help us understand what our professional responsibilities are to the children in our care, to the families of the children, to co-workers, and to the community and society in general.
A code of ethics is a formal document in which is used to assist members of an organization, to know what’s ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’ in the work place and applying it to their decisions. A code of ethics is a written set of rules or guidelines to help the workers and management ‘conduct’ or direct their actions with its primary values and ethical standards. A code of ethics is important because without it, employees and management wouldn’t have guidelines and the establishment would resemble a crazy house. Consider the establishment, Dunkin Donuts. Dunkin Donuts is a food establishment well-known for their famous donuts, coffee and their slogan “America runs on Dunkin”. Without a code of ethics, the industry would most likely be extremely hard to control.
Do you think the employees pay attention to it? I think the employees that already live these standards in their own lives pay attention to the code of ethics and what is expected of them. How would you ensure that your employees believed in and adopted your company’s code of ethics? I think if I was a manager, I would be living the code of ethics on a daily basis. Employees watch their managers and how they conduct themselves. If you make a big deal about living the code, then so will your
With all discrimination aside, what’s important is to show some honest respect, ethics, value, and loyalty to every employee.
There are key procedures that a company, like The Cheesecake Factory, can take in order to emphasis their employees follow the code of conduct. One such step is to have a litigation department that handles disputes, violations of the code of conduct, and investigations regarding violations of the code of conduct. This procedure makes it possible for the company and the employee to work together as a whole to protect the company interests. Another procedure that company such as The Cheesecake Factory can emphasize is to make every new and current employee sign a code of conduct
The biggest downfall of Chick-fil-A is the fact that on Sundays they are never open. Chick-fil-A is family owned restaurant built on Christian beliefs that discontinues all business operations on Sundays. Others suggests that the fact that Chick-fil-A reserves a day out of the week for religious purposes over the temptations of monetary value is rare in the food industry and therefore is highly respected. Chick-fil-A has maintained its moral values that people have learned to appreciate, even though some groups boycott the practice. Chick-fil-A continues to dominate sales beyond other fast-food restaurants even while only operating 6 days a week. Chick-fil-A chicken is so great tasting that they have had record breaking sales. According to Business Insider, Peterson H. argued that “The fried chicken chain generates more revenue per restaurant than any other fast food chain in the US,” (Peterson, 2015). Chick-fil-A food chain has even surpassed the sales of KFC and

Ethics in the workplace is a very important thing to have. Without a sense of ethicality in the workplace there are many things that could go wrong. You could even end up losing a job because of a lack of ethics, or other consequences could be felt due to a lack of caring or morality. The workplace is a place that you should show respect and dignity, and a deeper sense of ethics is very important in order to uphold these senses of morality. Workplace ethics, which include such things as behavior, integrity, commitment, teamwork, and other things, are important, if not required, in most workplaces and can help to improve performance and morale for workers and employers.
