Chick-Fil-A Excellence In Customer Service In 1946 two brothers, Ben and Truitt Cathy, opened a diner in Atlanta Georgia called the Dwarf House Grill. The Dwarf House served a variety of typical grill food that included everything from burgers to hot dogs. All of that changed in 1961 when a poultry supplier stopped buy and sold Mr. Cathy chicken breast that were too large for the trays that they typically cooked the chicken on. Truitt Cathy decided that he did not want to throw out the chicken so he breaded the chicken and put it in the pressure fryer. He realized that he could cook the chicken in the same amount of time that it took to cook a hamburger and it tasted great. He had hamburger buns and pickles in the restaurant already and this is how the first chicken sandwich was made. In 1967 the first Chick-Fil-A store was opened in Atlanta’s Greenbrier Shopping Center and in 1986 the first freestanding franchise was opened. Today there are more than one thousand seven hundred Chick-Fil-A restaurants in thirty nine states. One of the ways that Chick-Fil-A has been able to make their company a success is through their unique approach to customer service. They are able to provide excellent customer service by turning individuals into team players. Teams can be seen in the hiring process, community involvement, national sponsorship, knowing what customers want, and cooperate culture. All of these different teams lead to excellence in customer service. Hiring Process According to Chick-Fil-A’s website the process to own a franchise is lengthy and rigorous. Chick-fil-A recognizes that their brand promise starts the minute the customer enters the premises. When a store opens for the first time, the franchised operator doesn’t just see an opportunity to sell his food product, but rather a “chance to interact, build community, and engage with customers and the community at large. We do this in a variety of ways. First and foremost, we strive to provide 2nd Mile Service to each customer. As we work to continuously improve, we want customers to experience something unique. We want to build community and create relationships between our customers and our food, people and restaurants” [3].
The quality of the nuggets at chick-fil-a is better than these other restaurants. Personally even when it comes down to the service received , chick-fil-a always supersedes the others. According to Odyssey , Chick-fil-A employees are some of the nicest people who will ever serve you. They always greet you and make sure you're taken care of. They're always willing to take your trash, refill your drinks, and have a conversation with you. They are quick with giving you your food and always make sure you have everything you need to thoroughly enjoy your meal. They stand out compared to other fast food employees and seem to be having the time of their lives while working (2017). Chick-fil-a has the best nuggets to me because of their dipping sauces as well. Even though chick-fil-a has a blast of flavor , dipping sauces just tops it off. (Business Insider ,

Chick-fil-A is affected by numerous external forces which challenge upper management’s ability to make Chick-fil-A "America’s best quick-service restaurant". Through intense strategic planning, based upon the vision, mission and corporate values, Chick-fil-A has been able to establish a unique position in a very competitive industry. The corporate purpose of Chick-fil-A, "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact witch Chick-fil-A", their commitment to family and the community, and their sound business decisions, have made Chick-fil-A one of the most profitable and fastest growing quick-service restaurants in the nation.
When Chipotle first opened in 1993, the goal was to serve quality food fast, but not be considered “fast food.” To avoid falling under the fast food stigma, Chipotle strives to find the best ingredients with respect to animals, farmers, and the environment. In order to achieve these goals, Chipotle has created a matrix organizational structure that is divisional by location and functional by authority. Chipotle recently expanded internationally to the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, each following strict guidelines assigned by corporate employees from their headquarters in Denver, Colorado. Similarly, each location is functionally organized according to authority: regional manager, district manager, store manager, assistant manager, and
In 1940, McDonalds was not the multi-million dollar industry that people recognize today. In fact, it started out as a small drive-in style BBQ restaurant, owned by Dick and Mac McDonald, in San Bernadino, California. However in 1948, the entire workings of the restaurant were altered, making it the dawn of the McDonald’s empire. This new drive-in, like other drive-in restaurants of its time, struggled to make a large amount of profit, due to selling low-priced food using traditional methods, which were often labor intensive and expensive. But the McDonald brothers fixed this problem by reducing their menu 25 items to nine items: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, soft drinks, milk, coffee, potato chips, and a slice of pie. Their staple item, the 30 cent hamburger, accounted for 80 percent of their total sales. Later, the brothers altered the production to that of the Fordist assembly line in order to make the whole operation fast and efficient, halving the price of their items, including their prized hamburger. In the 1950’s, one of the words to help describe America was faster. Americans craved faster cars, faster music, and faster lives. This was the perfect time for Ray Kroc to contribute his groundbreaking ideas for the fast food industry. At first, Ray Kroc was just a salesman for the Multimixer shake machine, while McDonald’s was just a single, small hamburger stand in San Bernardino, California, that offered quick service. Kroc saw the potential of this small stand (to which he had sold 8 Multimixers) operated by Richard “Dick” McDonald, and his brother, Maurice “Mac” McDonald. He signed a 99-year contract with the brothers and quickly noticed the immense success derived from the genius concept of the speedy, consistent restaurant. By 1965, McDonald’s was a franchise with over 700 restaurants scattered throughout America, and Ray Kroc had become a successful entrepreneur (Mcd). With an abundance of restaurants found almost anywhere in the country, McDonald’s was a major influence on the nation. With the large amount of restaurants, the company, understandably, picked up a share of critics along the way. Although some may have a negative perception on the role of McDonald’s, the emergence of this major fast food restaurant positively affected the culture of the 1950’s, and the decades following. It changed aspects of the nation’s restaurant industry, the daily life of Americans, and diversity within the workforce.
The biggest downfall of Chick-fil-A is the fact that on Sundays they are never open. Chick-fil-A is family owned restaurant built on Christian beliefs that discontinues all business operations on Sundays. Others suggests that the fact that Chick-fil-A reserves a day out of the week for religious purposes over the temptations of monetary value is rare in the food industry and therefore is highly respected. Chick-fil-A has maintained its moral values that people have learned to appreciate, even though some groups boycott the practice. Chick-fil-A continues to dominate sales beyond other fast-food restaurants even while only operating 6 days a week. Chick-fil-A chicken is so great tasting that they have had record breaking sales. According to Business Insider, Peterson H. argued that “The fried chicken chain generates more revenue per restaurant than any other fast food chain in the US,” (Peterson, 2015). Chick-fil-A food chain has even surpassed the sales of KFC and
It was a nice summer day and I was at my friend, Melody’s, house. I had previously spent the night at her house. We had gotten up and started getting ready for our day. We were going to go out and get lunch at Chick-Fil-A. We were walking out to my car ready to go when I realized I did not have my car keys on me. I looked in my pockets and my backpack but they were nowhere to be found. In a panic, I turned around and headed back to Melody’s maroon bedroom to look for my keys. After about 30 minutes of intensely searching her room and we still could not locate them. I started to wonder if maybe I left them in my car from the night before. I went out to my white Ford Focus and sure enough there my keys were sitting in the driver’s seat with
Typically the fast food industry is associated with urban development, franchised operations which become chain restaurants across the globe that offer standardized meals, so that consumers can enjoy their favorite meals anywhere (Borade, G. (2012). Tracy V. Wilson states that McDonald’s was the first fast food restaurant to utilize a speedy assembly-line system to prepare food when the McDonald brothers opened up a redesigned restaurant in 1948, in which other chains followed a couple years after in the 1950’s (Wilson, n.d.). The speedy delivery made McDonald’s the largest fast-food chain restaurant in the world

The first innovative strategy of KFC China is localizing the menu. Trying to sell the same products or services is a typical approach to most foreign expansion for franchise businesses (Bell, 2011). However, one-size fits all approach is not what KFC chooses to implement for their company. According to Shelman, the writer of the case study regarding KFC’s Explosive Growth in China, key success for KFC China is to change the menu to suit Chinese tastes and style of eating. “One of the lessons I take away from this case is that to do China, you have to do China”, says Shelman. KFC localizes their offerings and adapts their existing products to appeal to the Chinese customers’ needs. The menu features Chinese local food like egg and vegetables soup. Examples of innovative products are the Dragon Twister (chicken roll of old Beijing) and the glass jelly milk tea (Zhou...
Not having to answer to a corporate boss is the dream of many and the flexibility that owning a business franchise creates provides this option. Success is not reached by simply creating a business, however. The level of success is measured by the size and efficiency of the business. Business growth is the driving force of the economy. The additional jobs and revenues created when a business expands allow the economy to grow at exponential rates. One of the fastest and most popular ways to increase the size of a business is to turn it into a franchise, which can then be purchased by individuals. Franchising provides opportunities that are beneficial to both the parent company and the purchaser. The company that owns the business can expand without having to pay such a large initial cost to open a new store since the franchise purchaser pays a cost to open the business. As well, the company can regulate many of the business activities so that there is a sense of consistency throughout all of the locations. The purchaser is allowed to use the trademarks and goods of the franchise which already have a large market presence. As well, they are provided with training and work standards by the company to help their business run smoothly (Kalnins & Lafontaine, 2004, p.761). Looking at the business model of the world’s largest food retailer, McDonald’s, provides great insight into franchising and business growth in general as well a better understanding of a global business that utilizes the franchising technique.
The first step in any business is to think of or create a business idea. Without an idea, one cannot launch their business off the ground. A right direction is needed to create a business with a unique idea. However, other options include franchising or buying an existing business (1). Franchising allows an individual to run stores such as Burger King or McDonalds under the corporate name. It involves taking training classes and a heap of money in order to start a franchise. A Franchisee will have to buy products and services from the corporate entity they are franchising from, which is often required. Buying a franchise is like taking a piece of the pie from the company that is franchising and sharing that pie with everybody else. In addition having a franchise allows one to communicate and in essence become a big part of an added business opportunity (4). Franchising is far from easy to start and maintain for that matter. Starting a franchise involves a l...
A franchise is simply investing money in a location or store, and then having the store become your own business after learning how to manage the entire business. You earn the majority of the profits, and you also don't have to worry about operations. You'll be taught by the company on how it run the entire business, and this is the reason why this is a huge and very easy way to become rich. Franchises require quite a hefty investment depending on the business you plan to buy. However, if the business is in high demand, there is profits to be made. Take for exMple the Cold Stone Creamery business. Countless people purchase one of their many franchises. The money is very good, the opportunities are endless, and the fact that there is no more need for advertising is what makes this more worth the investment in the long
