James Emma, otherwise known as, the most interesting man in the world...at least in my perspective. Quite few people know his true story, but by using my investigative skills and first person experience I was able to reveal who he really is. Coach Emma is an assistant coach at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo for the football team. He is the backbone of our football team, whether he is running defensive meetings or scouting the opponents for the weeks to come, as an assistant coach he deserves more credit. Many assistant coaches are overshadowed by the limelight placed specifically on head coaches. Not many realize the amount of effort they put into their work to help the team function. I have first hand experience being coached by an assistant coach, and have come to see how important their work truly is.
Being a player for Cal Poly’s football team, gave me a first hand experience of the magic that is Coach Emma’s coaching. As a redshirt freshman, I have been here since early July, so one could I am pretty comfortable being coached by Coach Emma. Coach Emma coaches the outside linebackers, but quite honestly helps out wherever needed, which is unavoidable as an assistant coach. From observing my coach during practice and throughout his daily schedule, I came away with the understanding how much assistant coaches do. Assistant coaches have to basically run the entire practice, while the head coach oversees everything. At

practice, assistant coaches have to run all the drills whether it’s for their position or if another coach needs extra help with their drill. Assistant coaches have to always take into account the constant changing that there is in football. A tedious job that could be described as having to almost “re-invent the wheel” a seemingly perfect idea. Every week trying to keep up with the constantly changing game in which many view as the beauty of the sport, football. A typical day for an assistant coach begins with a 5:00 AM staff meeting followed by a 2 ½ hour practice, then AGP (Academic Game Plan) in which the assistant coaches sit down with their positions and discuss schoolwork with the players and keep track of their progress in their classes. After AGP, they have defensive meetings and positional meetings that tend to go for a hour or so each. Finally, the coaches get together and discuss what they need to get done to be ready for this weeks opponent. The assistant coaches have such a heavy workload because it can be extremely difficult to manage a large group of people on the football team, despite the large amount of assistant coaches we have compared to the one head coach. They do all this because they love working with young people who have a common goal and that are willing to work together to achieve that goal. How rare it is in our society to have a situation in which, people are willing to put the team first before themselves and sacrifice their blood, sweat, and tears to achieve something bigger than one person. Assistant coaches need to be recognized more for their dedication to the team.
These coaches put just as much, or maybe even more hours as the head coach for little to none bonus. Assistant coaches take these coaching jobs for the same reason, to be able to help develop the techniques on the field and the character off the field for the young men that they coach. The role of an assistant coach in any sport, should never be taken for granted or overlooked because they work constantly to try and make people achieve their
goals.
Every coach is different with their methods, but they do have similar things they love about coaching. According to Brainy Quote, Vince Lombardi once said, “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.” That quote shows what Mather loves to see when coaching volleyball. His favorite part of coaching is watching people fight hard to reach their goals. Athletes who love their sport should be committed, and work hard at it. Having good sportsmanship for the
Coaching any sport is much harder than it seems. There are some jobs that almost anyone with the right education can do. Coaching is definitely not one of those jobs. One can get educated on drawing X's and O's on a paper for decades and still might be far from being a successful coach. Of course knowledge of the sport is very important too but to be successful in a job like coaching, one has to dedicate himself to his job; his job has to be his life. This is the major reason even those who hate Patriots still respect Bill Belichick and agree that he had unique abilities that make him so successful. His exceptional intelligence, his ability to break down and exploit game film, his singular discipline and his almost unmatched work ethic makes him probably the best coach in the NFL today and even one of the best in the history of the NFL.
Entering my final season of AAU basketball I knew I had set myself up for a roller coaster of emotions, whether it was from the night of my first practice, the weekend of my first tournament, or my first time on the road with my new team. This was because a lot was on the line this season, and I strived to make this season my best, and most enjoyable. This is mostly because this was the final year getting the opportunity to put on my red and black jersey every tournament. It was my last season traveling around the country with my teammates every weekend with one goal, to win, and it was my last season to improve my skills all around, in an attempt to further my basketball career into college. During the first few practices I was nervous for how the season would go because I noticed my coach was a lot harder on me than he was to my teammates and I did not know how to take that at first.I was not used to to his coaching style of being loud, in your face, and tough, or his emphasis on "perfection" because on my past teams I was used to being the best person on the team, and my coach rarely had negative criticism for me, so I took his intense coaching style terribly.

Gray Collins also focuses on how to evaluate coaching potential. The evaluation form is mending to help potential coach to make a decision on the possible success of a coaching relationship. A coac...
Being an athletic director seems like an amazing job because of the interaction with people and being around athletics. A lot of kids are involved in at least one sport, if not more, during their life time. Being an athletic director would give the opportunities for the kids to enjoy the sport or sports they are in by having an organized program and making it a good experience for them. An athletic director’s job is very important, they make sure every thing is in tact and organized. They make the schedules and let everyone know what is going on.
The effectiveness of the coaching method depends completely on the coach, his personality, and the needs of the student-athletes. Each program and institution is unique and has different institutional goals and objectives that attract different student-athletes compared to other colleges or universities (Koivula, Hassmen, Fallby, 2002).
Coaching is not only showing a team what to do, but explaining to them why it is so. Each game, the coach is accountable for getting all 11 players on the field working as one unit. He's responsible for preparing his team for battle each week and for making sure his game-time decisions are flawless. The coach is not only the head of the team, but a leader for all the players. A coach must maintain a pristine level of emotion and discipline so that he is respected by everyone.
My senior project is about being a coach and how it can be difficult and not an easy task. I wanted to show others that being a coach is something that takes time and effort in order to accomplish it. Being a coach is not a fun job but it is a job that will help you in the future. Coaching is an experience that not a lot of people get to go through but those who do become not just better people but they become teachers to others in troubling times and in time of need. Coaching gives you and also shows you that being helpful and courteous to others actually helps you out as a person and it also helps out the players you’re coaching to be better people and to be kind and not take things in the wrong way and to show them a better way that will help them in their life.
The duties of a good college football coach is to make your team as good as the can possibly get. Coaches usually have a one-hundred hour plus work week. This includes working on the field, in the office, or scouting. Coaches work year round scouting, practicing with the team, meeting new students, and adding them to the team.
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.
In today’s society being a coach can be extremely complicated especially compared to earlier years. Coaching requires not only many technical and personal skills but also has to include positive psychology that will affect all athletes regardless of gender, age, and race. After reading various articles this leads me to the question, what is a coach? How do coaches differ from one another? In addition are we forgetting the importance of not only coaching but the sports psychology aspect of coaching overall? Regardless of what you may have read or heard I believe not only do all coaches have their own coaching style but every coaching technique and style is different. Coaching styles and positive psychology are two techniques that can provide
The author has initially likened the term coaching to a sports team. In this context, the coach attempts to inspire the team to win games. Sport coaches help players realize their potential and motivate them to perform through discipline and teaching them relevant skills, techniques, and tactics. This is usually achieved through mutual communication and the fostering of meaningful relationships with the team members.
The expectations as a coach are maintaining a role of being professional and things in a proper perspective. This could be developing and communicating clear and specific goals for the team and individual players throughout tryouts and the season. Next, developing and demonstrating a good knowledge base of best practice specific to their coaching arena. Lastly, promoting and enforcing the student athlete code of conduct. Moreover, there are many more rules that we go by but those are a major three to understand and follow the guidelines of them. This internship was giving to me three years ago with nothing, but being an extra hand to help whenever is needed. Although, my endless effort to learn new things and hard-work showed that I was very reliable. My overall purpose to show the kids that there is way more life than being in a small town selling drugs or getting lock-up because you couldn’t follow the rules. This coaching lifestyle was chosen by because I wanted to do something I love, and sports is something that’ll forever have my heart. I chose football though because I wanted to follow the steps of old high school legend, which name is Barry Bowman. Coach Bowman, taught football on a college level so of course, he has sent over 30+ players division one football. Moreover, his biggest strength to him he said was “I believe that one of my greatest strengths is
