I have had so many amazing experiences already in my first few weeks of college. Deciding to participate in the Emerging Leaders program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Without it, I would not have as many friends or opportunities as I do by being a member. Just this week, I became a member of DreamAKRON. I am extremely excited to begin the journey of mentoring a high school girl named Makayla!
My only concerns about college are making good grades that are satisfactory enough for me and the director of the nursing program, and saving money to pay off my loans after graduation. In high school, I made good grades without putting forth too much effort, but in college it takes a lot of effort, and I realize that. I want to achieve every possible bit of success that I can get my hands on while I am at the University of Akron and in my life in general. Since my junior year of high school, I have had a part-time job. I worked five days a week while going to school and participating in extra-curricular activities and clubs. The job never made me a crazy amount of money, but it allowed me to pay for gas, save for a rainy day, and do some extra things with friends when time allowed. When my family moved to Ohio in June, I began babysitting three children, which taught me a valuable skill of patience that I will certainly use in my future nursing career. Now that I am a college student, it will be difficult to fit a part-time job into my schedule. However, I desperately need the opportunity to put away money to save and pay for books and other necessities each year. My parents are a great help for when I need little things, but because I am a very independent individual, I feel better about myself and my financial predicament when I can pay for all or at least part of my own
