A leader that retain most of the authority for themselves and make most decision individually. According to, Washington Post Rhee had a bold, confrontational style that turned off many. She use words in her statements ”crappy” and “criminal” to describe the school system and district’s math score. In other words, Rhee leadership style is autocratic leadership.
Consequently, if Rhee held a leadership position in my field interest of Finance would be awesome. First, I would work with her on the ten skills needed for leadership. For example, strategic thinking, collaboration, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, communication, motivation, feedback, tough conversations, coaching, and making values visible and viral. According to Poynter there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing careers improve as people grow from being okay manager’s to being great bosses who understand the key skills of leadership.
Finally, According to Washington Monthly, when Rhee came to DC plenty of people did not agree with her methods and what she was saying. Some teachers even filed lawsuits to fight her. But I can say one thing she did improve DC public schools and the proof is in the test scores and achievements of some former falling schools. Just became the thought of some teachers being the problem hurts a few feelings doesn’t mean she isn’t correct in that
Arne Duncan is the current Secretary of Education in Washington and was the biggest architect of the Renaissance 2010 movement within the Chicago Public Schools. He has been an effective leader for the charter school movement, or “turn around” schools as they begin to shape the education systems of underprivileged cities in the rest of the United States of America. There are many people who are in favor of the charter schools coming up through the education system, but there are others who are seeing the negative impact on their families and children. This renaissance is good for creating a better education for students, but the scale is heavily tipped to one side that is harming people who are/have been involved in Chicago Public Schools

However, the best leaders are the ones who do what’s right and best for the organization. During this research paper I will attempt to define the term leadership style and its concept. Moreover, I will attempt to describe three leadership styles, the development and the process one would follow to modify their leadership style. While due to the reason that Authentic Leadership is still in the formative phase, the textbook by Northouse provides different definitions of this type of leadership depending on the viewpoints that make this leadership style very broad compared to other more defined leadership styles, I do find Authentic Leadership as a compelling theory. While it is a broad style, it is also very complete by having different approaches that fulfill the goal of explaining the different components of this style. People in improper position of authority remove trust in the public. America has the latter of these two and the consequences are felt nationally. Dr. Naison brought up Duncan, “a former basketball player who never taught a day in his life…” (Naison, 1:05) to reveal that someone, so inexperienced, is the Secretary of Education. And is making the point that people like Duncan damage the Educational System, not help it. Duncan, among other inadequate leaders, have lead the charge to “make it run like a business...” (Naison, 4:33). A business requires standardization, so all schools must be taught the same thing across the nation, no matter what surrounds the school. The idea is that to equalize the playing field, everyone can equal opportunity to succeed. But if this equalization does not work in small scale in one school, it is impractical that it will work full-scale across the country. It only hinders people but this time it is a much larger problem. To fail the standards, results in the school closing. To follow what Lynch said: “ overcrowded classrooms are making it even tougher to learn” (10 Reasons, paragraph 3). Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
With God’s help the Biblical leaders Ezra and Nehemiah were able to fulfill their roles as leaders in the Jewish community. These men of God were chosen to be leaders to pray for the Israelites, relay Gods commands and encourage the people. As God’s leaders Ezra and Nehemiah carried out their respective duties even if fierce opposition awaited them.
Successful leaders must be skilled in asking their team members questions that will provide useful answers. As stated “If people aren’t giving you helpful answers to your questions, maybe your asking the wrong questions” (Dennis, 2011, para. 1). Questions are essential in keeping a project on track, and are used to help identify any issues or constraints that could affect the outcome of the project. If a leader fails to ask questions they will not know if the project faces any challenges. If the project is facing a challenge, the number one question to ask is “Can we fix it” (Pink, 2010, para. 4). Leadership and management will be unable to help resolve issues if they don’t that they exist. The only way to know if their project is facing any challenges is simply by asking the right questions.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
This notion that I could become a top executive someday was sparked when I first came across a TED talk led by Sheryl Sandberg COO of Facebook. From that point on, I went to Amazon and bought her book Lean In. I was so inspired by her tenacity and vision of women in leadership roles. In this paper I will look at the four major leadership styles, their characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and in what situations a particular leadership style is desired. Additionally, I will look at my leadership style and how I acquired this style throughout my career.
