1. Conflicts Analysis
The troubled situation of JVC can be attributed to the major conflict between Ellen and Jack, causing another aggravating conflict occurred consequently.
a. The major conflict was between Ellen Moore and Jack Kim, with the following symptoms:
- They had controversial issues "during the first few weeks because they were clearly stepping upon each other's territory". Ellen understood that she was the co-project manager with Jack, but Jack believed that he was the sole project manager for SI. In fact, the Korean team members always followed Jack's instructions which are different from Ellen's. Even, Jack got angry when, upon coming back from business trip, he saw that the team members just followed Ellen's instructions. Here, they were in conflict over who was giving instructions to the team members (perceived mutually exclusive goals).
- Jack wanted to carry out a market research study, which, in Ellen's opinion, was out of the project's scope and could delay the progress of SI. Here, they were in conflict over what was the scope of the project (perceived mutually exclusive events).
- The conflict between Ellen and Jack is a dysfunctional conflict as it was harming the company business (a month behind the schedule).
- The conflict increased to the level that Ellen had no way but made Jack lose face by interrupting and disagreeing with him in public. After that, Jack behaved very unprofessionally in the dinner by creating a hostile environment towards Ellen.
- The conflict between Ellen and Jack was caused by the following sources:
Perceived adverse changes: Jack was told on daily basis that he was the sole project manager, while Ellen came with the idea of co-project manager. When they met each...

d. The top management should set up an appropriate conflict control system to follow up the working process of not only this team but also the whole company. This join-venture company was still at nondiscriminatory stage for multicultural organization. Therefore, the top management should also set up process to develop the company to the multicultural stage to avoid any further problem. One of the first things is to harmonize the different cultural values between American and Korean in terms of Power Distance. Not all the time should the staff follow the superior's instruction without critical thinking. This style does not work well in a highly professional environment like consultancy.
On that fall day in 2009, Kirsten did not know that someone as intelligent and articulate as Jack might be unable to read the feelings of others, or gauge the impact of his words. [...] But she found comfort in Jack’s forthrightness. If he did not always say what she wanted to hear, she knew that whatever he did say, he meant. (Harmon 1-2)
Johnson’s strengths are that she has the experience of military and attended HBS, where both her leader personality and business insight were enabled. She is a “go-getter” and can “instill confidence into the people around her”, according to her colleagues and subordinates. She is also communicative, because she initiated “one-to-one” conversation with every employee, and arranged plant-wide “state of the site” meetings from quarterly to monthly. In addition, Johnson is an insightful person because she mentioned multiple times that she would not sacrifice long term interest for short term growth.
Another issue that stood throughout the work environment was Dale. Dale was very preserving he literally abused his power just so he can reach those numbers head office wanted from him. He only cared about performance not about his employees. He always had this one saying to his employees “you can either make money or go home”. All Dale actually cared about was making money so he can score big bonuses. Dale surely wanted to assemble to his employees selling patties is their number one priority if you want to continue working at Patty’s. Dale also loved to pick on Emma for the smallest odds and ends. Examples not smiling while working the drive thru, or not making specific drive thru times. Also there was one situation when Emma experienced sexual harassment and verbal abuse while waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up. These reasons defiantly woke her up to obtain a union at Patty’s before these conditions get wors...
Internal and external conflicts were faced by the main characters. External conflicts in the story are Christopher Vs. Society as kids shouted “special needs” to Christopher as they thought he didn’t act like a normal kid. Another Person Vs. Person conflict was when Christopher had ran to London and his Mother and Dad were arguing because of the custody of Christopher. Haddon writes, and mother shouted, “You have no right to be here.” And father shouted, “No right? No right? He’s my f***ing son, in case you’ve forgotten.” Internal conflicts in the story which make it interesting are when Christopher is in conflict with himself because his disabilities limit the actions and thoughts that he can make, which in turn affect his overall behavior. Haddon describes Christopher’s inability to understand other people by saying, “I do not like people shouting at me . It makes me scared that they are going to hit or touch me and I don’t know what is going to happen.(4)” Another internal conflict in the story was faced by Ed Boone when he was hiding the letters Christopher’s mom had sent him. He was not sure whether he should tell Christopher about his moms letters and feels a little tense. When Christopher finds the letters the whole truth and conflict is revealed. Haddon states, “I’m sorry, Christopher, I’m so, so sorry.” Then Ed said, “You read the letters. I did it for your good, Christopher.(114)” Conflicts play a vital role in the novel as they describe the rising and falling
Jack then was starting to realize what Babette was getting at. This is when the
When Jack does this, the information remains the main focus rather than the story and the story was sometimes clumped together without any information given. The story and information elements are there, but the whole process of creating this test was sometimes filled with just information. In addition, some of the things he talked about while trying to weave the information and story together were rushed and as a result, the story aspect of creating the actual test moved to getting it approved. Sometimes, the information seems to become the main focus while the story gets pushed to the side as if it was nothing, suspending the story as more information was added in between each part of the
Understanding how situations can become conflicts are important matters to investigate in hopes of preventing it from happening again. Every employee (in their minds) have different perspectives as to why conflicts happen. Such things include a lack of communication, feeling as if others are not doing their jobs, crazy rules, special treatment of friends as well as expectations that they feel are not reasonable. Conflicts that management may be involved in could be poor communication, lack of appropriate response to any given situation, not taking responsibility for their own errors, letting work & personal life interfere with the other, as well as not having good prioritizing
Conflict is something that entertains many, this is the reason why people watch reality shows, eavesdrop and gossip; to keep ourselves entertained. In spite of the conflict being entertaining it also has dire consequences on those who are involved. Lord of the Flies is a perfect example of the conflict that happens in our everyday lives and how this can mold us into who we are in the future. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding Jack faces inner conflict over choosing to embrace his instincts to be civil over his instincts to be savage. Jack is seen to struggle over two major inner conflicts about hunting and leading the group of boys.
...his balance allows Lee to more strongly portray the cause-and-effect of Jack and Ennis’ stances in their relationship. Throughout the story, Ennis and Jack are complementary to each other: Jack’s extroverted personality and Ennis’s introverted tendency, Jack’s money-producing marriage and Ennis’ hard-earned living, and Jack’s pursuit of his sexual impulses and Ennis’ suppression of his sexual orientation—these two Thanksgiving scenes include moments that add to the long list of aspects that harmoniously strengthen both as characters. However, their complementary characteristics also lead to complementary beliefs, preventing both of them from ever getting what they want. What seemed to be the driving forces that brought the two together actually turn out to be the ultimate destruction of hope and the possibility of ever escaping the suffocating influence of society.
At the end of the story, Jack realizes that blending in with society is not ideal. He regrets the past decade that was full of loss and regret when it could've been full of trust and love. People may be tempted to make unwise decisions to blend in with society. But think about it: the world is like a crowded marketplace. If you don’t stand out, you are invisible. Unique qualities define your identity. Without them, you are not yourself. At least on Qingming, the mother’s poor spirit can rest easy, knowing her son is with her in heart, but that can never make up for the years of hurt and betrayal directed at
-Issues with Felicity: Felicity the senior most of employee was knocked by Emily on the grounds of upgrading the vacation policy. Felicity has been a senior nurse and was enjoying paid vacations. The policy was that higher staff will get more vacations, which were considered to be obsolete by Emily, and advised a change strongly but this step set Felicity off and she openly expressed a conflict with Emily. She even filed a lawsuit for age discrimination against Emily.
S.J and E.H should have discussed together more about what they could have done to make both of them happy. Both S.J and E.H didn’t really want to problem solve the issue of who should throw from the platform.
Actions taken during conflict can escalate the situation through behaviors like aggression or stonewalling, or deescalate the conflict situation through things like collaboration and problem solving. (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015.). In this example, Connor’s action to deal with her internal conflict was to vent on the internet with the Twitter post in question. This post was also a triggering event for the Cisco employee who saw it, taking him through the stages to the manifest stage. His action (or in this case reaction) was to post a comment and potential to notify the hiring manager at Cisco. Conflict aftermath is the holistic overview of a conflict situation from latent through manifest, and its resulting outcomes. “It is the stage in which we evaluate the conflict as productive or counterproductive” (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p.287.). The outcome of this conflict is Connor hurt her personal brand and affected her employability; clearly I would say that is an unproductive outcome. On the other hand, some of the articles written about this could serve as a lesson to others about what not to do, so maybe something productive did come out of the
It has some conflict of ideas in team members. When I faced with situations, I listened other before I spoke something for understanding what was happened and tried to compromise their ideas for reducing the conflicts. This helps me how to deal with conflicts. In reality working organization, it usually has some conflicts within team members. Moreover, those conflicts can directly affect worker’s performance and create job dissatisfaction. However, the conflicts can be positive sides if you have the communication skills, they can have more new ideas, innovations or creativities. From personal goal, I would like to work in my family business. So, I must have abilities to bring my employees to work together. First, I will try to find the sources of conflict and listen employees’ point of view. I will provide some activities for leading them to work and to get along in team. All employees in my business must spend time in an icebreaker activity. The activity is useful for people can have a conversation and an interpersonal relation. When they know members in a team, they will feel comfortable and feel safer to work. If this way does not work, I will change the structure of some employees to other departments, but I will ask their opinions. After that, I would like to arrange to have a meeting around morning time before start working time to listen their performance in each week, this strategy will follow their effort and give them some suggestions for improving their performance. Moreover, the interpersonal relation can build trust from customers, partners and team workers. When customer believes in my organization, they will use my service and may become to a loyalty member in the future. For the partners, they can give some useful information when I do business with
However, looking back, I can see how a lot of the conflict could have been very useful. I can see that relationship conflict is never good because all it does it make people dislike each other. I can see how task conflict can be good if it is about choosing the best task, and I can see how process conflict can help improve process by people discussing processes. In the future, I will use my knowledge of the different kinds of conflict and the potential benefits of task and process conflict to help improve the way I or a company does things. For example, if an employee has a process conflict with me, I will listen to their points and discuss the pros and cons of the different processes with him or her. This will help ensure that the best processes are used. In addition, I will try to minimize relationship conflict by making sure I am respectful of employees and coworkers as well as trying to keep an open line of communication with them to help resolve relationship
