During our academic process students are requested to make oral presentations as part of a course, dissertation seminar or demonstration. The purpose of these presentation, apart from the academic or training, could also be for persuading, informing or as part of an assessment. In order to fulfill these purposes, presentations have to be effective. An effective presentation can be defined as a presentation that achieve its purpose and communicate new knowledge or benefit its audience. To consider that a presentation is effective there are some elements that has to be present. The elements can be listed as follows: a. Planning and preparation – the student has to carefully select the content of the presentation and the way he/she would summarize, …show more content…
Relevant and interesting content – when delivering information people think that the more they talk the more they show their knowledge. When we are preparing our presentation the information gather should be enough to express our ideas or arguments. This is why students should select the most relevant information. Another related element to the content is that the audience should be attentive to the presentation. The desire level of attention is achieved when the content of the presentation is interesting or the way the student selects to present the information, even though is technical or complicated, makes people follow the presentation. Included as part of the relevant content the student should present the evidence or sources that support that …show more content…
Audience participation – audience participation and attention is very important to any person that is delivering a presentation. With the audience participation the student could now the level of understanding reached and if the presentation was interesting. However, the person that is delivering a presentation should know how to control audience’s participation because if not the interruptions, comments or questions could affect the structure and content of the presentation. Even though these are the common elements of effective presentations, not all presentations are equal. We already know that the content, the person’s skills and the audience varies. There is not a specific way to present or deliver a presentation and some myths have been develops toward what is considered a good presentation. Some of the myths can be summarized as follows: a. People think that the more information they have more knowledge it transfers. However, the compelling content is not how much, but how the information gives knowledge to the audience or contributes to the message to be remembered. b. People think that the use of flowering language denotes knowledge, but simplicity and relevance is better than nonsense arguments or
The presentation was also an impressive experience. I never made a presentation in front of “foreigners” in English before, so I was very nervous, however, the feedback from professor and other students was very important. I used the form, short story, but after the presentation, professor told me that I cannot use short story as form and some students suggested me to use an advertisement to convey my message. My project’s goal was also kind of ambiguous.
When a student gives a speech, he/she is to give the instructor a folder containing a page with the following headings and specified information:
One of the presentations that I enjoyed the most was Pruva’s presentation on the misconceptions of arranged marriages. Before the presentation I had a negative view on arranged marriages but through the presentation I learned why it is not as bad as people think. The people being set up do not mind it, and 65 percent of Indian students believe that parents should have the final say or their marriage. There was also a study done proving that there is not a difference in happiness levels between arranged marriages verses love marriages. However, there is one thing she should of elaborated on; the definition of arranged marriages. She said arranged marriages are when a third party is involved. This was a little confusing because I am unsure if this means things like friends setting up people count, or if something like online dating websites would count. Though, overall it was a very good and informative presentation. Another presentation I enjoyed was the presentation on the age gap in relationships. I always thought an age gap was around five years or more but really it starts at about ten years. In this presentation I learned that society can make the relationships hard and even cause people to break up. Though, these people are really in love and it is not fair to them for society to negatively judge them. I also liked that she had been in an age gap relationship before so she could understand the emotions better. These presentations make the overall class experience
At first I felt that my information needed to be presented more as a timeline. I did not want this, so I delivered my topic in a way that would make the audience focus on three main point that they would remember after my speech was over rather than a timeline of random facts. I mentioned these three topics and then was able to seclude the most important parts of Muncie’s history. This allowed for the audience to stay focused throughout most of my speech.
I did this by making sure that I added clear pictures, had a legible font, and nice colors to catch their attention. I wanted to make sure that my slides had the right amount words for the students to read. I knew that they would lose interest in my presentation if I added large paragraphs or had too many words to my presentation. I had a total of twelve slides. I read over my slides multiple times to make sure that everything was correct. Each of my slides had a lot of information about Countee Cullen, the Harlem Renaissance, and the poems that I researched. Also, I added the quiz to my powerpoint to keep the students on their
Structured, pertinent curriculum is the foundation of a good class. If students are not interested in the information presented, then the class has no value to the student but to merely satisfy a graduation requir...
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
The conceptual understanding presentations with tableau served as a multi-modal representation of the presenting groups ability to deliver the information they
After re watching my own presentation I have noticed many different things that I didn’t think of or notice when I was originally presenting it. While watching it some of the things that I think I did well on where first my talking. This is something that I know I did better on because I did my presentation a little different from everyone else. Another thing that I think worked well for my presentation was the word to picture ratio. I felt like I did a good job not putting my entire script on the screen but enough to give the class a good summery about what I was talking about. Some areas of the rubric that I still think I need to work on is being more specific on answering the essential question making it more obvious as to what my over
Making a successful public presentation or speech to an audience was a very big task for me before I joined the public speaking class. I was always frightened and very nervous. Since then I now understand the process of making a speech or a presentation including coming up with a topic and from this topic develop the main points of the speech, research, organize my points, revise them, edit and make a magnificent presentation to any audience. People in the audience might sometimes agree or disagree with my opinion or points, it was therefore necessary to communicate my information clearly to the audience without making any judgments since every person was entitled to a different opinion and views about things.
...ng than in the content of their conclusion. Following these simple guidelines and objectives, I am able to plan engaging and stimulating lessons that not only motivate the students but are also meaningful to their personal and academic development.
Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy is important and must be embedded in planning, because in order to be a great teacher you need to know what you are teaching and the best way to teach it to your students. If an instructor does not possess a deep knowledge of what they are teaching it will be difficult to successfully engage students in discussion, promote questioning, and answer their questions. Teachers with a strong knowledge of the content they are teaching are able to present new information by linking it to previous information, address misconceptions, and plan activities and exercises to successfully engage students. They also understand that not all students learn the same way and have different pedagogical techniques planned.
This brings us to the two factors that influence an audience when presenting information through a media: the vividness of presentation and the position of a story (Baran 302). These factors, along with others, induce the audience to feel as if a particul...
In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. Lastly, the speaker must be fluid and eloquent with his words, the speaker must be able to sound clear and crisp while delivering their
Practice is a major role that needs to be played when it comes to presenting. Practicing, I feel gives you more confidence in your speech, and more preparation than if you were to not practice. Rehearsing before the speech then presenting makes you seem like you actually know what you are talking about even if the only reason you know all these facts is because of study and practicing. Practicing through my speech really helps me with my presentation, if I practice enough, I feel very confident to where I wouldn’t need t a paper to look at notes during the speech. This concept is important for anything. Practicing will always help you with any future task.
