Some employers particularly in the retail sector, require employee to wear uniform’s bearing the company logos or to dress in particular types and colors of clothing associated with the stores. "Dress Code!" MasterFILE Complete. Educational Leadership, Dec.-Jan. 2014-2015. Web. 18 Feb. 2016. This article comes from the point of view of a school principal Thomas R. Hoerr. Hoerr starts of with a comment that was made to him about a young girl and what she was wearing. The comment referred to her undergarments. The author continues to explain the two points he learned, and because of those points, he made his school a casual place. The dress code he established only proclaims to be “neat and clean.” The author saw no problem until the attire came so close as to be dressing at the beach, so he conducted a meeting with his staff and decided something should be said. When the author wrote the work dress guidelines, he got the input of the teachers and what should be expected by each guideline. However, the author only sent out the draft to people who had worked with him for fifteen or more years, so the question arose that the world is changing and he needed opinions from younger teachers. When he received feedback, he was questioned on if some codes really made a difference, and he made some changes. Next Hoerr tells his readers that when they give a restriction on something, they must have a rational reason why. Hoerr’s reason was that the school staff needed to have a professional experience, which make since because some students might not take their teacher seriously if he or she is dressed for bed. This article uses logos by appealing to logic on
Dress code is put into place to keep students from being bullied for how they dress and how some people may treat them different depending on what they wear. There is a lot of evidence that show students losing time in the class room because they are too worried about there personal apparel. David Brunsma, a sociologist who wrote Uniforms in Public Schools: A Decade of Research and Debate in 2005, says,
School is in the 'business' of learning. School is the place where the next lawyers, bankers, CPA's and Doctors are given the fundamentals of working in this economy. One of the basics of our culture in the working world is conservative dressing, dress code, or even uniforms. What is wrong with sending our kids the message that they are in 'the business of learning' by enforcing dress codes?
Dress codes regulate what can be worn in certain places, such as schools and facilities. These codes are controversial where ever they are enforced. People tend to think that the government does not have the power to tell them they cannot wear certain articles of clothing and the fact that some schools do it can throw people into a fit. Some people believe that dress codes stifle personal expression, that a dress code is the same thing as a uniform. Many people do not remember that individualism goes beyond clothes, and that a dress code will help kids to be more than the clothes they have or do not have. Dress codes allow students to set themselves apart from others by their actions not their appearance.
Every weekday morning during the school year, I wake up in order to get ready for school. I eat breakfast, board the bus, and hope my day will be a good one. Once I exit the bus and enter the school, I am unpleasantly greeted by girls hanging out of their shirts along with boys' behinds falling out of their pants. Immediately, my hopefulness evaporates and is replaced with disgust. As I get past those crude sights, I witness a fight due to one student bullying another based on the unfashionable and plain clothes he wears. My day that was supposed to be great has been disturbed again. I know that I am not the only person troubled by these almost daily sights. Therefore, in order to achieve a less distracting workplace and help eliminate violence, Perry Meridian High School (PMHS) needs to implement a stricter dress code.
What is the purpose of a dress code in schools? It is there to make sure we dress for success and we come to school ready to learn. That is what a dress school is for right? Or is it implemented into our schools to make students conform to how society wants them to be and be obedient to the people who make these types of rules? Here at Apple Valley High School (AVHS), we have a strict dress code and that is problematic. While there are some pros to schools having a dress, the cons of having it may very well outweigh the pros. There are many reasons why dress codes may be harmful, and at AVHS it is strictly enforced.
We see stories Social media has more stories of girls being sent home because of dress code violations. Maybe the problem isn’t the students, but dress codes in general. Dress codes ultimately disrupt the pursuit of knowledge for the students, encourage gender bias, and can be dangerous. If we want the younger generations to succeed in the education system, we should utilize school uniforms. Uniforms in schools from elementary to high schools, will promote gender equality and facilitate student safety.
Nature’s brilliance During the literary Romanticism period, there was a big upsurge in the attention and importance of nature. This is because the mavericks and writers of this time laid great prominence not only upon the splendor and grandeur of nature, but the sovereignty of the natural world. To a certain extent, these romanticists viewed nature the way a devout Christian would view Jesus. A great example of this borderline zealous obsession with nature is beautifully displayed in “The World is Too Much with Us” by William Wordsworth.
This makes the office, school or whatever the setting might be look bad as well not just the workers who are helping keep the facility up and running. “People not dressing according to their job doesn’t bother me that bad but it does makes me think twice about coming back to wherever the place I was at,” Travis Walker said. Dressing sluttly in a high class setting can make sells drops for people who actually invest in that business on the regular. “I believe the dress code in these places are getting worse especially in school settings. Teachers are dressing however they want with too little dresses and too much of a low cut shirt.
