Current Research Experience

Student’s Previous Research Experience: I have very limited research experience. In my course work, I have been involved in the literature review process, but active research is limited to my undergraduate degree. The study involved a rehabilitation unit in which we as students assessed the time interval for nurses who straight cathed quadriplegic patients compared to indwelling catheters and risk for infection.

Career Goals: My career goal is to complete my degree as an Advanced Practice Forensic Nurse at Duquesne University in May 2015. After the completion of my degree, I plan to pursue a career with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault so I may utilize my knowledge and skills. Additionally, I would be interested in researching

This may include but not be limited to data collection with a nurse awaiting IRB approval, attend meetings with Laura as she is the director of the Nursing Research Fellowship program, there are also three other nurse conducting their first projects and there may be some opportunities for involvement.

Evaluation:

After Laura Tivis and I have a formal meeting to discuss the research practicum, I will then be able to establish an evaluation based up on a more defined learning objective.

Learning Activities and Resources:

Currently, I am working with Laura Tivis to establish an affiliation contract between Duquesne University and St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho. Once this contract is in place, we will meet and discuss the opportunities and formulate a schedule. Like was stated earlier, Rick Bassett also has a current research study that I am working to participate with him. I will have a conference call with him this coming week to discuss the OMG study.
