Brief History
In the 1997, Critical Chain Project Management developed by Dr Eli Goldratt from his Theory of Constraints book “Critical Chain”. This method was designed specifically for project environment. CCPM is being presented as an alternative to the old methods for project planning and control, such as those contained in the management within standards such as the PMI Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).Therefore, Critical Chain Project Management have claims from both a theoretical and practical perspective in the light of this new guidance. It applies Goldratt's Theory of Constraints (TOC) to resolve project task and delivery issues.
Description
Critical Chain Project Management can address as a method of planning and managing project that can emphasizes the resources required to execute project tasks which related with placed on tight scheduling and ordered tasks.
Process
CCPM approaches projects by applying the following steps:
1. Initiate Process – Projects are selected within the achieving the goal of the organization. Therefore, the initiation of a project can derive the scope that results in actual accomplishment to gain a quality resources, sometimes expanding project scope beyond that acceptable in non-TOC environment.
2. Planning Process-Identify the chain buffer which is comprised of critical tasks. Reducing task estimates dramatically and safety (manage the impact of variation and uncertainty around projects).

The Critical Chain is the longest chain of dependent tasks. Critical Chain Management is a method of managing projects that cuts the time each task should take in half and uses buffers to give a safety net for on time product completion. Critical Chain Management attempts to solve the ever present issue that projects face. This issue is the inability to meet deadlines. Even when there are large amounts of safety embedded in to the project and even into each task, it is inevitable that the project will run over its time constraints. When a project does not meet deadlines there are usually consequences. These consequences can include going over budget, angry customers, delay in payment and a bad reputation. All of these can be damaging to a company.
The projects in today’s world are given a lot of importance and it will continue to grow in the coming years. There are a lot of companies which do not have production, but all of them do have projects. There are a lot of books which have been published on which related to planning and managing the projects. The one of the most important one was published by the author Eli Goldratt in his book ‘Critical chain’. This book basically talks and shows how the application of theory of constraints in the field of project management. The novel is basically based on one of the MBA classes in America where a number of ideas are developed in discussions among the students and the lecturers. The different stages of the project lifecycle are clearly spelt out in the WBS, allowing management to precisely identify which components are causing cost or schedule overruns and to more effectively mitigate the root cause of the overruns; USDOE (2012, p. 5) and provide specific insights into the relationship among scope, schedule, budget, and performance (p. 7).

When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014).
