A. Core Competencies
There are several core competencies found in our educational institution. I will touch on just three of these core competencies. The first competency is the integration of school wide essential vocabulary taught and applied in every classroom throughout the institution. These essential vocabulary terms are very important due to the fact that they are high frequent terms found on all benchmark assessments. The second core competency is implementation or integration of evidence based instructional practices utilized by all educators specifically the practice of explicit instruction with the I do/ we do/ they do/ and independent practice model. The positivity climate will create a positive and safe climate for all stakeholders specifically the students. Our students feel safe and secure enough to participate in class and engage in all course work because they know that our educational institutions main priority and focus is on their success. I have seen over the past couple of years several of our at risk students come out of their shells per say and want to participate in class discussions and complete their course work. This consultant company came in last school year and performed an overall school analysis. At the end of the school analysis the consultant company summarized their findings. They then presented their findings to the staff. Our institution then created a school transformation team which consists of four teachers, two administrators, and an instructional coach from Education Direction. Our school transformation team was given the assignment of identifying key areas that our school could focus on that would allow for the most overall school improvement. The transformation team based their decision off of the school analysis provided by educational direction which outlined in their summary several core competencies that were missing and we chose the three core competencies that would best meet the needs of our school improvement process and

My core competency is analytical thinking. Relating this to my Industrial Engineering course, I believe that my core competency lies within the field of Lean Manufacturing. I believe that I have the ability to solve problems in a quick and effective manner. I am able to identify issues, and areas for improvement, by analyzing relevant information no matter how complex the problems are. I follow an approach where I look at a complex system, such a production system, and break the system down into simpler, more understandable components. With this, I am able to devise and recommend potential solutions to the identified problems in the system. The Lean approach is a method used to find inefficiencies in the system in order to eliminate non-value adding work. I believe every student is entitled to a safe learning environment where they can reach their full potential academically and behaviorally. Students will reach their full potential in a positive learning environment. The positive learning environment will be established from the beginning of the year providing a lasting impact on the students academic, and behavior performance throughout the entire year. The positive learning environment will be a classroom setting, which allows students to feel welcomed, safe, and important on daily basis allowing learning to occur to its fullest potential. To ensure my students are in a positive learning environment there must be a behavior management plan clearly explaining the expectations I have for my students. Throughout my behavior management plan I will explain how I plan to implement expectations so students act accordingly. My behavior management plan will be individually tailored to my students allowing me to push them to their fullest potential to by taking into consideration each student’s behavior and personal needs.
Educators have to consider how to implement curriculum, instruction, management, and technology in the classroom. Educators also have to provide an environment where all children feel safe and nurtured. When creating a course of action, educators have to consider their role, as well as the role of the student, parent, and community. The first thing an educator has to consider is the curriculum students should be taught. Educators must use the common core standards for ELA and Math, as well as the Georgia Performance Standards for Science and Social Studies.

Data from state assessments, school incident reports, and other local data was used to suggest strategies, professional development, and budget requirements for school improvement. College-Ready Education has established shared valued by focus in on challenges in the education fields. I live in the state of Georgia and our education program just introduced the Common Core to our students last year. We have yet received the results and many students such as my own had a difficult time understanding the core. Introducing and learning new skills for both teachers and students can be a difficult time within a school year. Educators working on the Common Core feel this is a great learning experience for students to face the real world when entering college. The job of a teacher is never easy but we have seen how cooperative discipline and enabling students to feel capable, connected and contributing can improve classroom management and maybe even our own moods. If we create an environment of mutual respect and give our students legitimate power of voice and choice in the classroom we will see positive results in improved student behavior and student achievement. The need to evaluate curriculum arises because it is necessary for both teachers and students to determine the extent to which their current curricular program and its implementation have produced positive and curricularly suitable outcomes for students. To evaluate curricular effectiveness we must identify and describe the curriculum and its objectives first and then check its contents for accuracy, comprehensiveness, depth, timeliness, depth and quality.
Throughout the year, the five competencies that I have gained this year is my ability to solve problems independently, present information clearly, monitor my progress to achieve what I want, my passion over things I am interested over a long period of time and my ability to ask questions and respond to simple questions. To start it off, the first topic I will be talking about is my ability to solve problems independently. That being said, the reason why I think I gained this skill is because although there were some things that were difficult for me such as the chemistry unit and the biology unit, I was still motivated to learn the things that were causing me some trouble. Positive Climate: Today’s observation showed that there are very few indications that the teacher and students in this classroom enjoy a warm and supportive relationship with one another. Students and children in this classroom do not appear to be connected in any meaningful way. Teachers smiled rarely and did not show much verbal or physical affection toward the children. This has been a challenge my 1st year of teaching. An effective teacher will know and understand the Common Core Standards. My core educational values define what I believe is necessary tools students need to be successful. Such values are provided by the community of people (educators, parents, business partners) who touch the students’ lives. I value knowledge because without awareness of specific content, students are not able to truly feel a part of society. I value development of skills in order for students to apply their knowledge. When skills are applied, students demonstrate their knowledge and ability to function in our current world. I value critical thinking in our students so they can extend their knowledge and skills to solve complex problems benefitting our present and future. I value citizenship and feel that education has a responsibility to model and nurture character qualities in our students. Educating students is raising them equipped with tools that will enable them to function as contributing participants in a productive society. Knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and citizenship are educational values at the core of developing a student ready for the world’s challenges.
