My core competency is analytical thinking. Relating this to my Industrial Engineering course, I believe that my core competency lies within the field of Lean Manufacturing. I believe that I have the ability to solve problems in a quick and effective manner. I am able to identify issues, and areas for improvement, by analyzing relevant information no matter how complex the problems are. I follow an approach where I look at a complex system, such a production system, and break the system down into simpler, more understandable components. With this, I am able to devise and recommend potential solutions to the identified problems in the system. The Lean approach is a method used to find inefficiencies in the system in order to eliminate non-value adding work. This being said, I believe that I can be an asset to a firm if I am given the chance at an assignment for my senior design project. There are a lot of ideas and significant insights that I can bring to the firm. Most of the fields that I have studied in the past years revolve around helping organizations allocate resources more efficiently, reduce wastes, and increase profitability, while effectively addressing the needs of the end users. Basically, I have been taught and trained to figure out how to perform work faster, and do things better. Aside from the knowledge and the skills that I have acquired in my Industrial Engineering studies, I possess something that cannot be taught, and that is my passion for excellence.
