My core competency is analytical thinking. Relating this to my Industrial Engineering course, I believe that my core competency lies within the field of Lean Manufacturing. I believe that I have the ability to solve problems in a quick and effective manner. I am able to identify issues, and areas for improvement, by analyzing relevant information no matter how complex the problems are. I follow an approach where I look at a complex system, such a production system, and break the system down into simpler, more understandable components. With this, I am able to devise and recommend potential solutions to the identified problems in the system. The Lean approach is a method used to find inefficiencies in the system in order to eliminate non-value adding work. This being said, I believe that I can be an asset to a firm if I am given the chance at an assignment for my senior design project. There are a lot of ideas and significant insights that I can bring to the firm. Most of the fields that I have studied in the past years revolve around helping organizations allocate resources more efficiently, reduce wastes, and increase profitability, while effectively addressing the needs of the end users. Basically, I have been taught and trained to figure out how to perform work faster, and do things better. Aside from the knowledge and the skills that I have acquired in my Industrial Engineering studies, I possess something that cannot be taught, and that is my passion for excellence. I always do my best to work smart, in order to contribute in reaching the goals of any organization that I am a part of. Adding to this, I make sure that the outputs that I produce are consistently meaningful and
I fell within the normal range. This is a skill I would want to improve. I believe that conceptual skills would allow a leader to make larger improvements rather than handling day-to-day occupations required with technical skills. This is especially true if I intend move up for my career in human resources. My current strength in my technical skills has helped with my lower level occupations. Throughout my career I should improve my conceptual skill to see the “big picture” to attain with my followers.
..., outside of my sheltered academic life, by giving me an opportunity to do real work. When I was sometimes struggling to complete the work, I realized that I had to be completely self-sufficient. There was no one there to help me. Because of this I learnt many real life skills in under three weeks. Overall, I am really glad that I choose this specific senior project. Working at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC showed me a clear career path for myself as well as giving me more confidence. In conclusion, I believe the senior project is such a great opportunity for those who take advantage of the project. The one piece of advice that I have learnt from the senior project and would give to the upcoming juniors is if you make the most of the senior project or ay situation you can grow as a person, learn things about yourself, and make connections for the future.

The lean approach can substantially improve the process' efficiency. The objective is to create high quality products at a minimum cost in a short delivery time (Basu and Wright, 2008). This section explains briefly how Lean improves operational efficiency and enhances the competitiveness.
Lean management is a thought process and a philosophy, not a tool, used to look at a business weather it is manufacturing, service or any other activity with a supplier and a customer relation with the goal of eliminating non-value added tasks (Womack, Jones, Ross, 1990). The principles of lean production include teamwork, communication, efficient use of resources and continuous improvement (Kaizen). It can be said that they pioneered the idea of applying the concepts outside of manufacturing environments. The objective of lean production is a system for organising and managing product development, operations, suppliers, and customer relation that requires less human effort, less space, less capital, less material and less time to make products with fewer defects to precise customer desires, compared with the previous system of mass production (Marchwinski & Shook, 2004). The concepts of both Ohno (1988) and Womack and Jones (2003) search for ways to reduce lead time by eliminating waste it can be said that the terms “Lean” and “Toyota Production System” are synonymous.
Lean thinking is focused on eliminating waste throughout the company. It also places emphasis on looking through the customer’s point of view and providing value to them.
Industries plays a vital role in Indian economy, it has emerged as a very important tool in providing relatively larger employment after agriculture. Global markets are continuously changing and demanding product of high quality with marginal cost. Such products can be produced using lean manufacturing, a philosophy that aimed to reduce wastes of manufacturing at all levels, so as to reduce product cost. My organization deals in furniture making. The operations of my own organization include cutting wood, using flint paper, nailing, carving, designing, polishing and coloring, transportation and finally assembling.

Here, the context of services is not limited only to administration or office but it is anything from hospital to a university, from an office process to consultancy and from warehouse to field service maintenance. Usually, in service customer standing in front of us waiting for the service while in manufacturing process constraints are found at machine level where a task time is constrained. (2004), Lean construction is “the continuous process of eliminating waste, meeting or exceeding all customer requirements, focusing on the entire value stream, and pursuing perfection in the execution of a constructed project” [50]. Koskela and Howell (2002) stated that the general idea behind Lean construction is waste reduction, which is manifested in time, materials and effort to get the maximum value [51].
The main idea is to fulfill the internal or external customer’s wants. Through lean thinking, it is hoping that nonmanufacturing company’s can provides value to the customers with minimum cost, effort and can save time. Thus, it will lead to improve performance and optimum utilization of the company’s additional capacity and resources.
