My internship with the small business, The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC located in Morristown, NJ was a uniquely incredible experience. During my time at the center, I was able to work on a range of different projects, like publishing a book to sitting in and partaking in therapy sessions; consequently, I was able to explore, in the real world, the two fields I want to major in, Psychology and English. Although I have only interned at the center for three weeks or 78 hours, this experience has taught me a great deal about others and myself; furthermore, the senior project has shown me what I want to do in the future. In fact, brainstorming and writing this paper has helped me reflect and analyze on my personal growth throughout this experience. In my time working at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC, I have learnt a great deal about what working in the real world entails and myself. On the Sunday night before my first day on the senior project I was packing my bag and talking to my mom. I went over all the items in my bag so I made sure I had everything I needed for the next day. As childish as this may sound, I stopped mid-sentence and asked my mom, “What am I suppose to do for lunch tomorrow?” She responded with a smile, “Brown bag it.” Having gone to private school all my life, I never had to brown bag my lunch. Although this is small, it is one of the many examples of what I learnt throughout my senior project experience. I also learnt to further manage my time at work and home. Throughout my high school experience, I basically spent all my time doing work; however, with the senior project, since I worked long days, I limited the hours I spent on work at home. When I was sometimes struggling to complete the work, I realized that I had to be completely self-sufficient. There was no one there to help me. Because of this I learnt many real life skills in under three weeks. Overall, I am really glad that I choose this specific senior project. Working at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC showed me a clear career path for myself as well as giving me more confidence. In conclusion, I believe the senior project is such a great opportunity for those who take advantage of the project. The one piece of advice that I have learnt from the senior project and would give to the upcoming juniors is if you make the most of the senior project or ay situation you can grow as a person, learn things about yourself, and make connections for the future.
Mike Rose describes his first-hand experience of blue collar workers in his monograph “Blue Collar Brilliance”. Patiently, he observed the cooks and waitresses whilst he waited for his mother’s shift to end. He noticed how his mother called out abbreviated orders, tag tables and so on. Mike Rose describes how his mother, Rosie, took orders whilst holding cups of coffee and removed plates in motion. Rose observed how her mother and other waiters worked and concluded that blue collar work “demands both body and brain” (Rose 274). He describes that Rosie devised memory strategies and knew whether an order was being delayed. She was assiduous in sequencing and clustering her tasks and solved any technical or human problem simultaneously. Managing
Previous generations have a strong belief of keeping work and home life separate; that work is for work and home is for play (Rampell, 2011, para 21). Today’s professionals do not seem to abide by similar beliefs, constantly crossing the borders of one into the other. While many recognize this as an issue that could result in employees being less productive, it has actually resulted in them accepting that their work may run late into the evening or even into the weekend. I agree with this completely in that I grew up being taught that business is business and personal is personal; you leave your home life at the door. But now times have changed, and my weekends are no longer dedicated to my home life, but for work, because I attend classes during the week. Also, in my line of work in the Allied Health industry, it is a requirement to work off hours. As a species, humanity, henceforth, people, will never go out of business, but as individuals and specified groups, people can and will fail, because people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. In the modern society, it has become mandatory that all high school seniors are required to complete and present a “Senior Project,” to show the world that they can be taken seriously. Covering these points will include: what the project is, examples of different advocators of the project, and the different viewpoints of why it is useful verses why it is not.
To Kill a Mockingbird, the novel by Harper Lee embodies a work of Southern literature, set in the 1930s in a small town in Alabama. The book’s genre exemplifies a coming-of-age historical fiction story. The narrator, a young girl named Scout Finch, describes the lessons she and her brother Jem learn when their father, a lawyer named Atticus, defends an African American man who stands accused of raping a white woman. The novel’s premise revolves around the efforts of a father raising his children and guiding them in their moral development. Along the way, the book deals with the themes of courage, prejudice and maturity. These three concepts are defined differently by Atticus than by most of the other people in the town where he lives. According to Atticus, courage means doing what remains as right and resisting what remains as wrong, even if other people oppose you. In contrast to the prejudice of the townspeople, Atticus believes it important to treat everyone equally. Maturity, in Atticus’ view, refers to having a sense of conscience and seeking to protect those who remain innocent. As these definitions show, Atticus Finch displays a strong sense of ethics. His goal as a parent remains to pass his values on to his children. This paper will argue that Scout and Jem learn the true meanings of courage, prejudice and maturity through the influence of their father and the example he sets for them.
Over the next two years, I will work towards completing 3,000 hours of post licensure internship while continuing my education in a doctoral program. After completing the doctoral program, I would like to hold dual licensure as a professional counselor and psychologist. In the next 10 years, I would like to work at the collegiate level as an educator in psychology and/or counseling. My ultimate career goal is to operate a program for at risk men and women ages 18 to 25. The program I hope to create will focus on the transition to independence process (TIP) model. My focus will be to provide psychological services for young people who are aging out of foster care, have a juvenile record, or are teen parents. Have you ever wonder what the twisted mind that could make something like death seem fun, well Tim Burton does exactly that in Edward Scissorhand and Charlie and the chocolate factory. Tim Burton loves setting a dark, gloomy mood he also tends to use a lot reality vs. fantasy in Edward Scissorhands and in Charlie and the chocolate factory. The element Tim Burton uses in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands uses makes a very dark and eerie mood. Burton uses low key lighting and close-ups in Edward Scissorhands and in Charlie and chocolate factory to achieve a dark, gloomy, and eerie mood to show the emotion, thoughts, and feelings building up in the characters and to give you a suspense and suspension like mood in the scene.
I soon found myself mired in work. For a person whose friends teased her about being a neat freak, I grew increasingly messy. My room and desk looked like my backpack had exploded. There was no time to talk to friends on the phone, not even on the weekends. Going to bed at midnight was a luxury, 1 a.m. was normal, 3 a.m. meant time to panic and 4 a.m. meant it was time to go to sleep defeated. Most days, I would shuffle clumsily from class to class with sleep-clouded eyes and nod off during classroom lectures. There was even a month in winter when I was so self-conscious of my raccoon eyes that I wore sunglasses to school.
... important thing that I learned from this research project was that taking initiative represents having your own expectations and goals. A person must follow their dreams by relying on their own expectations that must be higher than those set by others. Although we gathered enough information from the research project, I believe that taking advantage of resources is essential in order to surpass the transition from high school to college. But if I could do something differently in the project, I would have encouraged my teammates to take breaks in order to be more relaxed and focused. The research project has been an immense experience that has changed my perspective in college, but mostly taught me valuable elements to become a successful freshman student.
This reflection paper is divided into five main sections. The first section gives a general introduction of internship that I was doing during my internship period. The second section provides an overview of the internship practice and tasks that I was assigned to do. The third section is about the office technologies I used during the internship. The fourth section is about the benefits of the RCBC Paralegal Program courses taken as applied to the work that I performed. The final section is devoted to the knowledge and experience that I gained during the course of internship.
The quarter has finally come to an end, and with that, I close out my internship and this class that went along with it. It was a great experience and I leave equipped with a new set of skills that are preparing me for the world ahead. As I write this reflection paper, I think back to the very first week when I set up two goals for myself to focus on and hope to achieve throughout the following weeks. My first goal was to develop a better understanding of myself within the work place, and my second was to develop a strong network to jumpstart my career. Both of my goals were achieved, however, I don’t feel that either of my goals will ever be complete. I believe that you can always formulate a better understanding of yourself, and you can always network to develop a stronger tree of connections. I know for a fact, however, that I reached satisfaction with both of my goals at this internship at MKI and know whole-heartedly that I did everything in my power to exhaust my resources in
At first, I was very skeptical about the whole concept of an internship. Given the size of Providence, an organization that spans five states and employs over 82,000 people, I felt like a drop of water in a vast ocean. The idea of learning anything in such environment seemed unrealistic, let alone contributing to the organization’s growth. Most of all, I was conflicted by the notion of giving 200 hours of my life away without any sort of monetary compensations. In addition to incurring an implicit and explicit cost during my internship at Providence, after doing calculations I came to a conclusion that I would have made at least $2000 over the course of ten weeks if I were to take a part-time minimum wage job. From the economic feasibility perspective, I was losing money instead of making money. At the time, it seemed a preposterous idea to continue doing what I was doing, but in retrospect, the long-term impact of internship on my future career and personal development is priceless.
“Why don’t you use your locker? You’re going to have back problems before you even graduate”. These are words that are repeated to me daily, almost like clockwork. I carry my twenty-pound backpack, full of papers upon papers from my AP classes. The middle pouch of my backpack houses my book in which I get lost to distract me from my unrelenting stress. The top pouch holds several erasers, foreshadowing the mistakes I will make - and extra lead, to combat and mend these mistakes. Thick, wordy textbooks full of knowledge that has yet to become engraved in my brain, dig the straps of my backpack into my shoulders. This feeling, ironically enough, gives me relief - my potential and future success reside in my folders and on the pages of my notebooks.
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect, analyze, and synthesize on my internship experience at the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program.
