Indigenous literature is finally getting well-deserved recognition in the literary world, and the messages within the text are taking center stage in their popularity. True Indigenous lives are coming out through the powerful words of respected Indigenous authors. Within Drew Hayden Taylors, ‘Dead White Writer on the Floor', Eden Robinsons', ‘Son of a Trickstar,’ and Waubgeshig Rices ‘Moon of the Turning Leaves’, the truths come to life through different authors' perspectives. In ‘Dead White Writer on the Floor,”and ‘Moon of the Turning Leaves’ both novels expose the trauma experienced by governmental control. Jared’s mother talks about her grandmother's viewpoint on her and states, “The nuns messed her up. They made her think everything Indian was evil. And that includes you and me.”( Robinson 68). The grandmother went to residential schools and now the trauma will be with her for the rest of her life as well as creating intergenerational trauma. The trauma she experienced is something she will never forget and caused her to think that even her own daughter is evil and that is the sad truth about the impact of residential schools. The fact the trauma is so strong to make her think her own family is evil really tells you how much her life was affected by the residential schools. The grandma’s life is not the only one impacted as it created intergenerational trauma for the mother and created the poor relationship they had. The mother’s lack of a proper mother figure in her life is now leading to her own issues as to what a proper mother figure would look like for her son
