After spending time in my placement, I have discovered that I am good at following instructions and tasks that are given to me. After I have a clear understanding of what needs to be completed and the steps I need to take, It’s easy for myself to follow the instructions carefully and to complete the task that needs to be finished. While being at my placement I’ve had the opportunity to try new things that I’ve never done before. Therefore, I’ve learned many new things that I didn’t know before. Through these tasks, I’ve learned that all I need to succeed in completing a task with minimal mistakes is instructions and then I’m good. Additionally, I’ve gotten better at time management when it comes to completing

I’ve had the opportunity to get so much advice and knowledge that has definitely given me more to think about if I would like to pursue a career in this field. Before taking Co-op I wasn't aware that to become a lawyer you can go through any program for your undergraduate. This is something that has definitely change the path I had previously planned out for schooling since I’ve been opened up to so many different programs that Interests me that I could apply for. I’ve also learned about the pros and cons of this career, I’ve learned that to become a lawyer you need to have determination and be hard working because it tasks over such a significant amount of time. Whether it’s being under constant stress to never really leaving work since once you get home, you continue working on your cases. Not only that, but I’ve learned about the difficulties of applying to law school that the competitiveness that comes with it since a very limited amount of applicant only get in. However, I’ve also learned about the positive aspects of the job which is that you get to help disadvantaged individuals and you are constantly working on different cases and it can very interesting. And, if you have an interest in law, this could be a very enjoyable and exciting career path. As far as whether I would like to pursue this career path, my thought still stays the same. Which is that I find this a very interesting career path which can have a lot of meaning to me especially since I would be helping people. Although I don't have the perception of the career I had before since I've been informed and learned about so many different things about the career path of becoming a lawyer and the difficulties that come with it. Therefore, I still have a lot of thinking to do and preparation to change my work ethic by improving if I want to be a successful lawyer.
As I became more involved with campus life, I couldn’t find a way to immerse myself in preparing for a career in law. While I knew why I wanted a law degree, I couldn’t conceptualize what I wanted to do with it. Prior to college life, my familiarity with the legal system was by way of internships with judges and lawyers. Clearly, that traditional route perked my interest but not my passion. Living with the athletes affirmed my interest in their culture. I began to immerse myself in subjects surro...
My personal strengths are that I read and remember things well from most sources. I can process new information easily which helps with various forms of math and science. However, I also possess several weaknesses. I sometimes shy
Finally, leadership, my most valuable skill. Leadership is useful in any career and any situation. In band, I've used it a lot. Now that I'm going into the real world and my career, I know I will use it even more. My leadership has rewarded me personally. I feel like I have already made a difference in the lives of my peers. Leadership can get me anywhere in life and I expect that this alone could get me all the way to my college graduation. These skills in combination will keep me on top, and hopefully at the top of my college
My personal and educational growth in college and subsequent professional experience provided an avenue for a career choice, working in law. I have learned that the law protects on all levels from the multi-million dollar client to the single mom who can barely feed her children. It is through this that I can continue to make a difference in my and others’ lives. Emory Law offers me the opportunity to further my goals through its International Humanitarian Law Clinic, Volunteer Clinic for Veterans, and the multiple of chances to help others through my blossoming legal knowledge while in school. All of these would add pieces of my puzzle and help bring into focus the bigger picture of my puzzle. Through attending Emory Law I will continue to create change through helping and ultimately find where I fit in this greater human puzzle.
Although becoming a lawyer make take a lot of time and a lot of work there are some very good benefits. You will have a wide selection of career options, financial rewards, mental stimulation, flexibility and skills that transfer. Once you decide to retire as a lawyer you can still work as a judge, majority of judges were lawyers in their past. You always want to be educated about your job so if you were to chose to advance your career to being a judge you would want to educate yourself on how to do
Another strength that I have is being an active listener. I listened to my clients and utilized a lot of micro skills. Insuring confidentiality was also a strength that I developed closer to the end of field placement. Conducting assessments and making sure I tracked and exhausted the topics was also a strength that I identified throughout field. Practicing from a strengths perspective was also another area I excelled at when working with my clients. A skill that I could work on is being more conscious of self in terms of body language during interviews, because at times I find myself with my arms cross which may give an indication that I’m closed off or
There will be a lot of obstacles I face while trying to make it all the way to law school such as money problems, time efficiency, and those who will try to cloud my head with doubts that I won’t make it. Nevertheless, I will move past all that and raise my law degree up high knowing I am about to change life’s in a positive way and watch how
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
The two areas that best reflect my strong suits are respectful and inspiring. (Steadiness) Respect should not be taken lightly and people want others to show them that they are important. I am not the one to belittle, talk down to someone, embarrass the other person, or not acknowledge someone because they are not like me or do not hold a certain position. People respond in a negative manner and become very defensive when others treat them in any of the ways previously mention. I look at how I want others to consider when speaking and interacting with me. That is the way I have to try to handle myself when dealing with others. Taking calculated risks is what I do best because I cannot stand losing too much if the results do not outweigh the risks involved. I am also very critical on myself and can point out faults in a heartbeat. I have to analyze future actions before I act on anything because I do not want to go wrong or too far away from initial path. Repeating myself or actually running through multiple scenarios takes up a lot of time. Being overly critical on myself will eliminate some of that time that I cannot get back.
My flexibility is certainly one of my greatest strengths. I can easily move between different working styles, depending on the scenario. I have no problem trying a new idea or concept out before deciding on a final direction. I am continually exploring different options. Being a “people-person” is one of my other strengths. My excellent interpersonal skills allow for me to bring ideas, thoughts and people together. I generate enthusiasm and excitement into tasks. I feel comfortable and confident talking to others about anything that I have knowledge of.
I want to become a lawyer because I’ve always been interested in the occupation and I want to help people. To be more specific I want to be a prosecutor. I used to watch shows such as Criminal Minds and Law and Order and I also watched the news. While watching the news, I began to think that not all criminals are getting caught, and they are starting to do more and more things to damage the world. I can’t stand thinking that people are doing horrible things and thinking its okay. I want to be able to put those people in prison where they belong.
It also takes the focus and determination to set goals to become a successful law student. I’m that student that has continuously given up weekends to become a better student. This is proof that I’m self-motivated and that no one will tell me something different. If I want something I put my whole body into it meaning every day I will be that student that gives a hundred percent and more. I’m also a team player and more so a leader in the belief in waning to succeed at everything.
These are the skills I already have such as: communication; personal skills; motivational; creative and time management skills. These I have previously acquired will help me to be successful in my career. To know how far on the scale of these specific skills I will have to do a self-assessment. A self-assessment is a very important tool used by managers in all industry. Sometimes you can’t possibly remember what you have done and how to improve yourself and by assessing my own skills this will allow me to remember all of my personal achievements and personal disappointments. This is a form of feedback which requires the assessor to be completely honest to themselves and in order f...
